How does your game apply the limitation (and optionally, the theme)?
In the game you play as the boss in a boss fight, you don't have power ups or levels, instead you have phases that are unlocked the more times you die. In the game you also dont have any powers and you need to stand "on the edge" of the enemy attacks to absorb and use them yourself.

This was fun, I like the idea of collecting ammo by narrowly avoiding getting hit, Though the ammo counter isn't very visible. Back ground music would help a lot. I hit the final stage, where I had infinite ammo and just jumped up the mountain and sat there a "firing meh laser" until I won.

Developer(+1)

Yeah, I thought the ammo counter it looked slick and well intergrated, turns out it's just not visible enough, and I have to accept that and fix it. And I am also aware of the airstrike meta that I want to patch up. Thank you for your feedback and for playing my game, it means alot.

The mechanic of absorbtion is really cool and the feel of the game loop is very rewarding. The game is very much fun. The SFX is really cool and adds to the mood.

Unfortunately there is no background music and no indicator of how many mobs are going to come or how many waves you have to survive. Also, I dont really feel like the "boss" in this game, even though I am clearly superior to the mobs.

Overall a phenomanal fun game with a very polished and beautiful aestetic!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for playing my game, all the feedback is more than welcome. I am planning on adding a level indicator, but a remaining mobs count would also be a good idea, unfortunately my music skills are pretty much 0 so I don't think I can add a BGM to the scene, but I get what you are saying. The boss idea shouldn't be coming from the superiority you feel over the mobs, but instead from the way you power up by changing phases every time you die, and the fact that the enemies come to you, rather than you going to them. Again thanks for the feedback!

I like the fact that you have to take a risk to be able to attack, and how you need to keep on your toes to make sure you have the right weapon to attack. Well done.

Developer

Thank you so much, I feel like this high risk high reward has alot to offer, but maybe in a different way, running out of ammo and constantly having to pick that back up might get tedious very fast. So I am thinking of using the mechanic in some kind of a power-up way in a future game. I am glad you enjoyed the game, thank you for playing.

This was great, I really like the effect when you steal a move/ability...like the wavy line thing coming to you look super cool.  The lazer beam (maybe wand) ability was awesome, I felt op when I had it.  Having to be on the edge of getting attacked to be able to attack was a very unique take on the them.  Great job!

Developer

Thank you for playing the game, it's so incredible that someone actually played what I make, I can't begin to describe the feeling, I am really glad you enjoyed it, thank you so much.

It was fun utilizing different weapons to take down opponents!

fun game i liked the spear mechanic it was well made. although it took too long to get any of the ammo for the weapons. also didn't see the theme or requirement for the game.

Developer(+2)

I took the requirement of the boss in a game design sense rather than the "boss in a job enviroment" meaning. So what makes you a boss is that instead of doing the hunting yourself, progressing through maps and all, you are the one being hunted, and at the same time instead of powering up through levels, you do so by changing phases every time you die,  in the same manner a boss would in most games. For the theme, I went with a more literall approach, you need to literally stand on the edge of an attack to absorb it's powers, hope this clarifies that. Thank you a million for playing the game and for your input, I think the ammo generation rate has some room for tweaking as well!

I really love this game and the detail in it. The way you get the weapons and the fact that they upgrade when you get hurt is great! I can see more enemies and weapons in this! Keep going

Thanks you so much for playing the game and commenting as well. I am really glad you enjoyed it, cheers!

I found it interesting that when you die its  an upgrade ik a pervious comment said this but the absorption and spear movement is cool. Great submission!

Developer

Thank you for playing my game and for your comment! I am glad you enjoyed it!

The absorption mechanic is really cool, I also thought the spear move felt really satisfying. The death upgrade thing is a neat idea, but I think it needs more work to integrate with the absorption mechanic because on my first play through I focused on dodging the attacks, took almost no damage and only really unlocked the first upgrade right before the end.

It seems like the best strategy for speedrunning is to just take as much damage as possible until you unlock infinite ammo, then just rain destruction down from a safe place.

My suggestion is to either limit the jumping so you can't get above the enemies (because they can only aim at the ground) or make the enemies more dangerous and have them aim at the slime wherever he is rather than just on the ground. I also think it might be cool to replace the infinite jump with a double jump, but make the slime stick to walls somehow (he is a slime after all).

Developer

First of all, thank you for the detailed feedback and for playing the game, I was thinking maybe I could make the absorption some kind of a currency that you use to get permenant upgrades through levels (if I actually make this a bigger more refined game). Also I will definitely be limiting the jumping to a certain height, because I've seen too many of my friends abusing the airstrike meta right now. Thanks again for your input, I appreciate it!

The Game Is Super FUN, I Love The Art, The Concept Is Amazing. The Graphics Are Amazing. You Can Just Jump Up And Never Come Down. So, The Music Is Good, Hope You Keep Making Game And Having FUN!

I really enjoyed my time with this one! I especially liked that as you "died" you went through different phases and your abilities upgraded, and having to absorb enemy attacks was always a challenge to get right.

Really annoyed at myself - got to the very end with one enemy left before dying and getting the stage with infinite ammo. Will definitely try again!

Developer

Ah that's a feels bad man moment right there.. Thanks for playing the game and leaving a comment, it means alot!

I was a little confused on whether or not the game had an ending and then I got my 1 star?? Definitely need to try it again now you've offered me a challenge, still a little unsure what causes me to gain extra ammo but otherwise game was fun.

Only issue I saw was I could hide on top of the rocks at the side and then abuse the archers for free ammo .

Developer

It seems like the game could use a small tutorial level to help the player understand that when you absorb the enemy powers you essentially gain ammo for that weapon. Thank you a ton for playing my game and for the feedback, I really appreciate it.

such a fun game!!

I really enjoyed the unique game mechanics. Having to actually absorb your enemy attacks and then shoot it back is a cool idea

Plus everytime you "die" you unlock newer ways to use your abilities, it really did make you feel like a boss.

I think the following would have made the game even better:

1) ammo count, how much ammo I have left would have been nice, in the last phase I assume I get an infinite amount of ammo

2) a timer for how long the game is? or wave counts, I thought it was just an endless mode, I was about ready to stop when suddenly I won. Is the number of stars you get depending on which phase you are? So if you stayed at the first phase that's 3 stars?

3) Not sure if it was intentional but you can keep jumping for ever and almost be flying? That could be a bit of cheese for the game

But aside from that everything is great, the art, the tutorial is reaaaally well made. Great job 👍

Developer(+1)

I am really glad that you enjoyed the game, there was an ammo count on the bottom right corner, but you are 100% right about the wave count, I will be updating the game after the Jam is over with that. Also yeah I didn't want to restrict the player's vertical movement but infinite jumps can be used to kinda break the game, so maybe I will limit that to 3 jumps or so, or perhaps even better a limiter to stop you from using jumps once you reach a certain height. Thanks for playing my game!

That was a really fun take on the theme/limitation. I found that farming for lasers while there was only 1 mage left was the best strategy! I almost quit right before the end because I didn't know if it was endless or not (a little progression indicator like wave 1/5 would have help.)

Got 2 stars btw. Nice game :)

Developer(+1)

Damn, a progression indicator would have been a great idea, you are absoloutely right, after the Jam is over I will be adding that, thanks for the feedback. I am really glad you enjoyed the game. Thanks for playing and commenting.

Nice idea to only be able to use abilities that got stolen and at the same time the risk that exists on doing so, I liked it, at the start I was carefull of my health bu then I noticed that, like you said dont be afraid to die because I am the boss, nice

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it man! Thank you so much!
