Very nice looking game, and addictive game play.  I like the unique concept of the  chicken turning into a rocket, made for an interesting game.

I'm a big fan of this game - it's a huge shame it doesn't have more ratings as I wish more people had the chance to play it! I loved all the sound effects - very effective use there, although I would have liked a sound and maybe a screen shake for falling in the lava. The music fitted very well, I liked that a lot. To improve, maybe consider mouse controls rather than arrow controls, as these caught me off guard a few times in my rotating adventures. That in mind, this could absolutely be ported to mobile with a few tweaks, something to consider!

Well done!

Developer(+1)

Thank you!

We added sound effects a couple hours before the submission time was over, so we had to hurry. Some things weren't as polished as we would've liked to, but we'll work on improving all these stuff later.

What a great mechanic! Once i got the hang of it, the game became really fun. Overall very well presented game! Good job!

This is a great submission, one of the more complete games I have seen! This reminds me of the classic days of Doodle Jump on my iPod aha

The effects, music, SFX and all the extra little touches puts this above many other games in this jam great job!

Wow! This is great! Easy to lear and easy to master, that might be an issue though, feels like at some point the lava is not a threat. But not sure how it can be balance without making it too dificult.

High score: 658 (Lava was not even close so I stop playing :c)

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!

We wanted to make it so that the lava increases speed as the player goes higher up, but we had problems with the game's build, and we were almost out of time we just forgot to do it :(

But we'll fix that once the jam is over!

I could really just keep going, was a really nice flow to it! Just a little getting used to the controls in the beginning, but after that it was a great game.

Developer

Thanks for your input!

The controls are kinda wack, but we'll change that and make it more comfortable when the game jam is over!

This was the most engaging game I've played in this jam so far. Amazing idea and I love the simplicity of it. The game is super well polished and the assets/level design fits the game. The controlls were a little bit difficult but not impossible. And MAAAAN that music just fits the game so well, it's impressive. This needs to be a full smartphone game, there's so much potential. Awesome work.

Developer

Thanks for your input!

We're really glad you like it, about the controls, we agree they are kinda sloppy haha, but we'll change it to a more comfortable layout later!

Fun game that has a lot of charm!  The rocket controls could be a little finnicky at times, but overall it was a very enjoyable experience! :D

Developer

Thank you! Glad you liked it!

We'll totally work on the controls, because they sure are kinda wacky sometimes haha

Awesome! Easily my favourite so far.

Should this be considered a win? Been waiting here for lava to catch me up for almost five minutes now but the bar is still showing empty.

I have only two big issues with the game really. The first and the major one being the difficulty. It doesn't scale at all? So once you get the ropes, you can go on forever. The only even remotely hard section was that long stretch of corridor where you need to hit the red enemies but obviously you can even skip that and go with the safe and not that much slower right side route.

Easiest move would be to make the lava speed increase over time so that it would pretty much become impossible at some point. That would offer some real test of skills then. And you could also randomly mirror the "rooms" to get more variation without any additional designs. Getting hit on spikes could get punished more and more the more you hit em too.

Oh wow, lava is actually catching up to me now...

The second gripe was the control layout. Would have been million percent better if the rocket would be the same button as jump. So just like a floaty double jump. And I hate that you decided to bind the rocket to mouse of all things. Making an platformer and arbitarily binding one button to mouse when you don't need its cursor for anything is just weird. I really don't understand why people go for such layouts. Most people are right handed and even for lefties, I don't see why you would want to play pretty much with just a single hand.

The game looks and sounds great! There was some minor sprite tearing but that wasn't a big deal. And I would have wanted to see more juice too. A game like this is just screaming for screen shake!

Anyways, awesome job!

Regarding the difficulty, we absolutely planned to have the lava increase as the player goes higher. We Left it for the end, but with some issues regarding the build and the deadline, we forgot to add it, so yeah, it gets extremely easy overtime haha.

The controls seemed fine until we suddenly thought at the end "why did we use the mouse?", it was an arbitrary decision made at the beginning of development and it just stayed like that, but when it was finished it just occured to us that it was a bad idea.

And I haven't actually considered mirroring the rooms, that is a good idea. Once the game jam is over we'll address these problems, because plenty of people told us about them haha, especially the difficulty part.

Thanks for playing it, we're glad you liked it!

Firstly, the gameplay is clever and very fun to play, however the control scheme of including the mouse was a bit awkward. The style is really nice and it only needed more game juice in screen shake and a few sound fx like for dying. Great entry! (Plus that screen transition when you die is one of the coolest transitions I've ever seen!)

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thanks for your input!

The control scheme was made at the beginning of development, and overtime we got so used to it that we didn't realized it's actually quite uncomfortable haha, we'll work on that, and some other issues we found/were told about.

Submitted(+2)

Loved the random level gen. I think your control scheme would have been better if one mouse click was to jump, then clicking again was rocket!

Developer(+1)

Thank you!

Yeah, the controls are quite clunky haha, we didn't think of that properly, but it'll be updated (along some other things) when the game jam is over.

This game has a very addictive quality to it. I love rocket chicken. So simple, so smart, looks like a devil and then turns into a rocket. Who would've thought? Kind of like Icy Tower for the year 2020 where we're actually living in hell and there is no more ice to build a tower from.

Had a bit of a difficulty curve and then a difficulty drop once you learn the procedural chunks. But I still had a great time with it. Was the perfect amount of challenge / content for a jam game, and I would 100% play it again if you added more hooks to keep you invested over time and increase the challenge. I liked the music too! Awesome work.

Developer

Designing the chunks was kinda hard haha, level design is really difficult, but we tried to make it work. It's true that it gets easy, but when the jam is over we'll work on adding more things. I'm glad you liked it!

Pretty fun little game. The steering controls takes a while to get used to ... After that though, and once you figure out that running the creatures and the yellow blocks increased my fuel, it became a lot easier. Though, after hitting around 300m-400m, it starts getting a little tedious as the procedural generation starts running its course... And once you hit 1000m, you start questioning your life choices...

With that being said, anyone else able to beat my high score of 1012.9M? I only stopped playing because my wrist started to cramp up.

Developer(+1)

This has to be the funniest comment I’ve ever seen! haha First of all, thanks! I’m really glad you liked the game!

Now, you’re definitely right! The number of “chunks” that we’ve worked on was very limited, and the speed of the lava is just too low compared with the speed of the player when the player already knows how to fly effectively. We planned on increasing the speed of the lava periodically, but after some build related issues, and the submission deadline getting closer and closer, we completely forgot! :(

In any case, we already have some things planned to fix some of these issues after the gamejam ends, so I hope you’ll look forward to those!

My friend’s high score is 1334.7m and, as you can see, the lava isn’t even near at that point.

Submitted

Haha! Yeah, I was also at a point where I was solidly above the lava that it wasn't even on the meter. I was just too slow taking the capture, lol.

But yeah, good job with this game! Definitely would have been nice to have the lava rate increase, but alas! That is how the game jam do.

Oh, I also wanted to say, I thought the animations in the game were really clean. The way the helmet turned into the rocket was a really nice touch. I would say this was one of the best use of a chicken so far.

Submitted(+2)

This was just a fun little time.  Kept me engaged and wanting to beat my time. Challenge wasnt too hard but there was some of the room generations that caught me out which was good :D

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Loved your reaction on the stream! I’m really glad people liked it, even though it has some classical game jam flaws. Once the review process is over, we’re definitely gonna tweak some configurations to make it a little harder for more experienced players!

Submitted(+2)

Took me a while to figure out how to steer the rocket. Cool game but somewhat difficult.

Developer

Thanks! We didn’t have the time to do an in-game tutorial, but I’m glad that it can be figured out by playing. The game is difficult at first, but once you get the hang of it, it turns way easier

Submitted(+2)

nice game!

Developer

Thanks!

Submitted(+2)

Nice game! Pretty tough but still very enjoyable.

Developer

I’m really glad that you think that! It may seem so during your first runs, but after getting the grasp of it, the game turns way easier

Submitted(+2)

Great fun and challenging, plus I love chickens, in feathers or in sauce, never the same time.

Developer

Those are wise words, my friend, wise words indeed.

(Thanks for playing the game! I’m glad you liked it)
