Really cool idea! Taking a well established game like chess and twisting it into something new. The graphics and music is also very nice. Good job overall!

How does your game fit the theme?
I thought it would be cool to think about how a game of Chess could be made "out of control" and what I came up with was a game of Chess but as a roguelike, and where the piece you control keeps changing.

Lul, I'm too good for the AI >D
Yeah, sometimes the AI does not attack me, even when it's obvious that's the right way to move.
But anyway, I had a lot of fun, and the art here is for me perfect for a jam game.
Really great concept! There's a bit of enemies attacking from offscreen happening (even when zoomed out lol), maps could be a bit tighter to force strategic play. Its cool that chests affect the movement. Nice shopkeeper and items to balance out the gameplay so you don't get too screwed being a pawn.
I think it would be a bit more interesting/challenging if there was more pressure on the player. The AI is a little easy. I'd like it if multiple pieces would try to attack at once. If gold was more valuable and sparse it could lead to decisions like 'if I pick this up I'll get gold but also be hit by an enemy'. A turn timer might also help, forcing the player to think fast and try to find the most beneficial position. Overall great concept. The graphics and music are nice, and it was very enjoyable.
That was nice, but seemed too easy. Maybe there are too many items, or the consequences of being "captured" are too small?
Haha, I'm not really sure what sort of feedback I should give to your game. There wasn't any aspect I didn't like! You have something really solid here.
This game was honestly amazing! It felt really polished and the gameplay was really fun. My only criticism is that I don't really like the random selection between pieces, being a pawn is incredibly unfair and all you do usually is just skip your turns. It would be better if you could upgrade your piece with different movements and ranges, or possibly just upgrade it to a specific chess piece. Overall the game is incredible and I think it has great potential, I hope you keep working on it, amazing job!
Very nice idea and great concept, this could be a great game with a good IA. I hope you will improve your game with a much better IA to force the player to think his moves the way he would do while playing chess. I enjoyed the game a lot even if the "out of control" feel was not very strong in my opinion.
Awesome game. Easy to play and understand. The gameplay is fun and feels very polished. The art and audio is also very good. Great job :)
This is by far my favorite game in the Jam. You can argue that you have no control over the next chess piece you will transform to but I felt quite in control. Nonetheless, it was unexpectedly fun to play and definitely can be made into a standalone title. By the way, I think that it was very hard to come up with something fitting very well with the theme of the Jam and still make it fun to play so I definitely wonder what the winner game's core idea will be. Keep up the good work!
This was spectacular. It definitely needs a bit more explanation (what's the goal of each level) so I know what I am looking for I think it was my second game before I even saw the door. Art and interface work seamlessly very well designed. I did bug out at one point (switched to a bishop, had no moves. Hit Z to skip turn and game seems to freeze in place.) Can't wait to see this develop. Also forgot mention please put this on Android, I can definitely see this killing a ton of time on my phone :)
Really fun game! Turning chess into a roguelike like this works surprisingly well. There's a lot of potential for this to be taken further and the possibilities are endless.
Outstanding game! Great execution of a great idea, maybe a little more difficulty in the later levels would have been great
Super cool! We love chess and rouge-likes, what a great mix. We were wishing we changed pieces after being hit until you ran out of pieces, so a strategy might be to get hit on purpose to get an otherwise inaccessible treasure, at the cost of losing a piece.
