great work on this game! quite spooky and intense trying to keep my cats safe! the atmosphere was fantastic! good job! :D
I was a little confused if is there any strategy to save the cats most of the time, because I really wanted so badly, but aliens were so persistent ;(
One thing that I didn't like is that there wasn't a way to save the cat from the alien who took one (or was it, and I'm just small brained?)
But overall, the sound design was on point, the visuals establish the atmosphere well, and the idea is original but sad (in a good way). Surely, adding much more elements can turn the game into something much less repetitive, but for a game in 48 hours, your submission is great!
It definitely seems like we should have had some way to counter the aliens for a bit: either stealing a cat back from them, shooing them away, or maybe throwing some light to scare them temporarily? Unfortunately, it was one of those things we just didn't have time to playtest+figure out a good solution for.
Glad you enjoyed the atmosphere of the game, our artists did some super good work!
It took me a while to understand how exactly do I operate the game, but once I got an idea, the game-play was pretty smooth. The UI was very cool looking! nice sound and graphics too. Awesome job submitting a challenging game to this jam and If you have time, please check out my game :D
Fun concept and nice visuals and audio.
Though it's rather a one-shot game. It gets tedious after a while, especially the second (and probably next) time around.
Hard game, and sad. :(
But well done! My only complaint is that the character sprite goes under the cats even when not carrying them, which looks a bit odd.
this is a really cool game. I loved the are and the movement was pretty solid. Great work!
Original take on the theme, allthough felt a bit tidious (for me at least). Overall presentation is good, the pixel art is of good quality, the music fit the ambiance and the sfx are well done and use. Didn't encounter any bug, so yeah good job !
Cool concept but I did not like that the cats had colliders I had to avoid. Fantastic visuals and theme, it felt super creepy in a good way. Good job, and I hope to see this expanded upon!
Fun game ! it wasn’t too hard and the movements of the aliens was speedy but predictable enough to still be manageable. I just don’t know if it was intended that the cats have a hitbox ? Good job !
My cats were all murdered, so that's probably a good place to call it a night. The mechanics feel solid, my only complaint was that an alien was able to push me into the trees on my first playthrough so I wasn't able to protect my poor children. I don't know what I was expecting, but the aliens scared the livin daylights out of me, the sound design and creature design there is terrifying. Good work! Loved the atmosphere, loved the game.
such a cute game! i am apparently very bad at it but that did not stop me from having a lot of fun! the artstyle and color scheme came out great! i love it!
Glad you enjoyed it! The enemy AI didn't quite get where I wanted it to, but it's a pretty simple state machine.
- When they enter the field (from spawn, or after stealing a cat), they run at full speed until they're roughly onscreen.
- If they're stealing a cat, they run at full speed to the nearest edge (that's the idea, at least)
- If they can "see" a cat (read: they're within X distance of one), they move full speed towards it, by tweening their velocity in the direction of the nearest cat.
- Otherwise they're considered to be "wandering." While wandering, they use a movespeed a fraction of their usual, and pick a random direction to tween towards every half a second or so. The cats also wander around like this.
- We noticed that they'd often end up crowding the light with that simple wandering algorithm though, so I added a bit to have them notice it they're too close to the center, and make them run away in a random direction if so. It only sort of worked haha
Hopefully I haven't just rambled, and that actually conveyed something useful.
Really fun game! It's also very hard, I couldn't keep more than 3 cats at the same time.
