Great game! I'll definitely try it with friends once they can come over.  I played alone, so it was a bit hard, but I was able to beat the first wave of enemies~

Great job on the art.

I wasn't really able to work out how to avoid being able to attack enemies without getting hurt myself. So i couldn't really get that far in the game. Unsure if i was doing something wrong or if the hitboxes were really small.

If you get a chance, i would add a fairly wide and generous visual element for the attack.

his game is gorgeous!  Such a cool use of the art kit, and the lighting and shadows were stunning.  Amazing start to a game, but as others have mentioned, it just needs fleshing out.  Music/SFX, screen shake, hit indication, etc. all could make the rest of the game match up with the beautiful visuals.  If you keep developing this, I'd be really interested to see the finished product!  Great job!

Loved the visual aspects of the game, the pixelated shadow and the player's movement!

I think the gameplay can be improved, Adding  feedback when hitting or getting hit can add a lot, also when you had too many enemies at once was very hard to win them all, so you had to be very careful to attack them one by one.

holy smokes this is awesome looking as hell! you used the art asset in the best way possible!

By far the coolest use of the assets I have seen. I didn't even recognize the art pack! I love that you made this multiplayer, too (not that I have anyone around to play with #covid). I can't say enough good stuff about the lighting, too. The dynamic shadows cast by the fire, and the player ring glow. Outstanding!

I wish I could have made it further and seen more! Also, were you missing a "restart" button after player death, or did I just miss it?

Developer

Thanks for playing! Glad to hear that you liked it. I hear you on the multiplayer bit, maybe 2020 wasn’t the best year for a local co-op game lol. Would’ve liked online co-op but that was out of scope for the jam sadly. There was a restart button in the controls (listed on Itch page), however we should have made this a UI element, but we ran out of time. This will definitely be fixed in a v2!

Really cool use of the art pack, I loved the lighting! Some feedback when you're hitting/being hit would do great for this game.

Hoi cool lightning usage^^

You got cool design there. Haven't seen much 2.5D sidescrollers in the jam so props to you.

Peeps said it already but reaction to action really helps in these kind of games.
or example when you attack an ennemy you can simply make him flash red for half a second to show the hit has been made.

You just have to polish your game a bit more and dadd some SFX and it will double in value^^

Good work!

Wish I could have played this multiplayer! I love the aesthetic, really well done with the theme, lighting and shadows against the back wall - that was a great effect.

I don't have much more to add that hasn't already been mentioned below. I also found it difficult to determine if my hits were landing and if/when I was being hit. I found myself doing "drive-by" attacks to try not to die. If combat were polished up this would have been an excellent game. Well done!

Edit: Also, the "1 minute, 15 seconds before the deadline" is AMAZING. I can tell you guys worked hard on this right til literally the last few minutes haha

Great job on the look of the game! Although hit feedback is a bit lacking, effects like hit flash, frame pause and screen shake could really juice up the game and make it clearly know you or an enemy was hit. The attack animations also felt sluggish, the light attack should be way quicker than the heavy to justify the long wait time compared to damage.

Such a beautiful and good looking game! wow! The style, the mood, the animations, were really great!  Awesome job there! incredible use of the assets! If you could polish the combat more, with particles effects etc, and the general feeling of it, this could turn out into a viable product! Good job! and best of luck :D

The visuals were fantastic, however the game didn't feel balanced enough when playing single player, I was always being killed by the first 3 enemies. In addition, I'd love some more feedback when I'm attacking, like some particles or a sound so that I'm aware I actually hit something. Either way, good job!

Thanks for playing it on stream! Just watched you play it on the VOD, sorry that I couldn’t be there live! I rather agree with all the points you made. The first encounter is definitely a bit too hard for 1 player for your first time playing. Further, we definitely wanted to make the combat have more feedback, but we ran out of time with the deadline. Same goes with sounds, ui, etc. We may also revise the keyboard controls, as you seemed to not like the layout. We plan on updating this game post-jam and addressing all of those concerns. Again, thanks for playing!

Visuals are well made. The shadows at the back have fleshed me. It would good to have a feedback when the player hits an enemy. I missed some sounds and music. Overall nice little game. :)

Developer

Thanks for the feedback. Yea i wanted to try and give oomph to when the player hits an enemy but i couldn't get it to where i wanted in time sadly, and i wish we got sounds and music in before the deadline too. Also thanks for playing!

Gorgeous aethetics. I love beat'em ups.

It is a bit hard to tell if you hit an enemy or not.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback. Yea the anims don't have the amount of oomph that i would have liked as well as visual affects also would have helped in showing if an enemy got hit or not but sadly we ran out of time before we could get that in. Also thanks for playing!

First of all, the graphics are amazing. It's really a beauty to look at.

I wasn't able to play with friends because I don't have friends, but there's definitely a good game in here. Audio would obviously improve the experience a lot, as would on-screen controls. I had a lot of difficulty with the combat, it seemed like the light attack was actually slower than the heavy attack, but it's difficult to tell. Some more feedback will go a long way. I hope you continue to develop this because you clearly have a gem in the making here.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback. Yea when i set up the character i was dumb and made him with planes so certain animations almost disappear since the back faces are invisible, so my animations look a little funky as well as yea the timing with some of the anims are a little funky sadly, also we had ideas about on screen controls in the beginning, but never got back around to it due to lack of time sadly since we didn't get a lot of the ui in.  Also thanks for playing!

Absolutely adore how it looks, multiplayer is wild too man. I think it could use more obvious when you're hitting/recovering within your character states, and effects on hit for you and the enemies. That said, once I got the combat rhythm down it was p fun. Good stuff!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback. Yea I wanted to try to get the different character states to pop more but i couldn't really get them to stand out in time, maybe with sounds and some FX it would be a bit easier to tell. Also thanks for playing!

Astonishing visuals, and adding local multiplayer is very ambitious. With some polish it could definitely be a top game.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback. Yea we had alot of ideas for ways to polish the game up but sadly we ended up running out of time before we really could get them in. Also thanks for playing!

Love the use of 2D sprites in a 3D environment, the shadows cast by the campfire really popped. Multiplayer is also really cool to see. Some sound and maybe more visible hitbox when swinging would make this an easy 10/10

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback. Yea we definitely wanted to get sound in as well as make attacking have a bit more oomph but sadly we ran out of time. Also thanks for playing!
