Congrats! You got a pretty good score (very close to mine) on graphics! Maybe that "someday you'll be as good as me" is closer than you give yourself credit for ;) Aaand they understood your take on the theme waay better than they did my vaguely presented one. You literally have NO audio whatsoever and still got 670th out of 1058 lol. So focus on the audio complementation too to evoke those feelings!

Graphics are really nice :)
Some suggestions:
- the camera following could be a bit smoother
- I really miss the audio, with some sounds / music it could be even better
Good job on the game! The graphics are REALLY GOOD! Although, the game is really hard to beat, would like to see an updated version of it!
Also please check and rate this game we made, thanks! https://itch.io/jam/cgj/rate/475808
Very simple game but still have good details! Easy to understand. Fits to the theme. Rated!
Don't forget to check my game and rating it, please.

The art is nice, but there is no sound at all. In the "fear" level, the jump to the invisible platform is too big and it's not intuitive that you have to move the box backwards. And in the "is it worth it?" level, it is very difficult to jump over the gears. Once you then finally get past them, you get killed by spikes from the sky. After that I just quit the game. So to answer your question, no it isn't worth it.
I haven't said the F word that much in a long time. The game has great atmosphere but I personally find the game to be very difficult. Left me kinda frustrated because the plot is interesting and I really wanted to see the end. I got to the part where you run but the spike collision was brutal. Maybe spikes could be another color so they're easier to see? Outside of the difficulty I found the game to be super interesting and engaging. Thanks for sharing your submission.
I like the visuals of the game a lot and the parallel between negative emotions and your levels.
I think that for me this game is too hard. I quit at the anxiety level because even if I knew what to do for most part of the level I still died like 60 times half of them in the spikes part. I'm really not a fan of pixel perfect jumps and even less a fan of rage games.
The controls are good and the game is well made but I didn't have fun at all after short time, I was just angry.
I get the lie theme here because this is no key to happiness at all.
Good luck for the jam.
If you got time here's our game https://itch.io/jam/cgj/rate/477069
There is an actual ending of the game..But I rushed most part of the development due to shortage of time (was a busy week)..And yep..the anxiety part was very hardd.Although I've made the game better and would love if you try out the final build.
Anyways thanks for Playing my game..Really means a lot..I'll definitely check out your game.
Cheers!
my review:
I really like the ambience of the game. But it would be better with music and soundeffects!
The graphic is very nice!
The game fits good to the theme because of some illusions.
I had overall fun playing your game.
maiby you could implement background scrolling. this would improve the game I think.
But overall great job! keep up the great work!
maiby you want check out my game too! would be nice to get a review too.
Rated - Really like the color scheme. After the jam add some sfx, some ambient forest sounds would really help the mood. I like the particles when the player dies. Good job! Please check out my entry when you can.
First of all, I'm actually glad to see someone else interpreting the theme in a very very similar way (I'm sorry btw) and your game fits the theme very well, because there is no joy in this torture. You made it pretty hard with the timing, and I can tell you why:
1. The jumps are rrrreally pinpoint!! Look at your arch (red) compared to more buffer on either sides (green). I know it can seem easy to cross if you make the jumps easier, but players love that compared to this fail 29 times out of 30 jumps. Seriously. Study this image, because your arches are pinpoint...
2. The reason why control seems so hard is because the player moves fast and you have to be really aware (at all 30 frames inside 1 second) to see when exactly to jump, because during that 1 second you move a lot in that (red) jump/land buffer, and if you don't get close enough you can't make the jump, only if you move very close to the edge and with this move speed it's verrrry hard to time it just right :(
Otherwise the atmosphere is amazingly done, you have some visual talent, for sure!! AUDIO!!!! Even some cheap midi sounds would create more atmosphere than nothing at all... Never skip audio, only if your game is based around that.
I love how you (similarly to me in my game) picked apart the "pieces" which make up the character, but you chose the negative emotions (which the liar game says would turn to joy lol)
Please keep working on this game, and make it into a full one! It has potential!!
Thanks a lot for the feedback :)..I've been improving the game since the jam ended.. Thanks to you and many other community members I've come to know my faults and what I shouldn't to next time.As far as audio is concerned, I couldn't properly manage my time..I'm really happy to see someone taking time to explain what I did wrong..I really appreciate that :)..I'll make sure to play your game soon :)
The art for this game is just great! It gives the game so much mood and atmosphere, its a shame the sound wasn't working for me for some reason cuz im sure that would have elevated it even more. One piece of feedback I have if you want to take this forward (which you definitely should) is to tweak your collisions a bit. I was bonking my character's head on the bottom of platforms a lot, and some of the jumps are so pin point it feels a little too punishing. Otherwise great job!
First of all, Thanks for Playing and rating my game..It really means a lot to me..The sound problem was entirely because of me as I couldn't manage the given time and failed to add sound..But now I know that audio matters a lot in any game. I've added checkpoints in the latest version and also tweaked many of the bugs, Thanks to the healthy criticism of the community..I'll make sure to link to the latest version soon..Cheers!
Amazing art! The controls feel very responsive as well! It's too hard for me as I cannot reach the portal in "Is It Worth It", but overall the presentation is awesome!
Pretty game, with some strong meaning and aesthetic.
It's also a frustrating game as you die often, but I thing it's a beautifull game overhall. Good job.
Nice game, I love the art style and the moral of the game, but didn't manage to finish as I got stuck to the Anxiety level, too much walking back and forth and spikes were very hard to avoid. And not sure if it's normal but there wasn't any sound in the game on my side. Overall nicely done :)
