Did you get a weird crash? If possible, hit the 'Upload Traceback' button to notify Spiky and send him the relevant code links, but you can also post about it here.

Did a graphic fail to show up? Let us know where you were!

Did the plot seemingly contradict itself because you TOTALLY were holding the Orange Prognosticator in your hand but now the text says it's buried in the desert? Tell us what went wrong - use rot13 if necessary to hide spoilers.

Really I'm just blathering to say "yes, post bugs here".

(+1)

I don't know if this counts as a contradiction but here goes:

Event: Passing the reflexes check when Zorana goes to sleep on turn 1

There seems to be no problem with the event itself as far as bugs are concerned, but I found it odd that Zorana is sleeping fully dressed when there is a pyjamas sprite already. I was thinking it might be to not interfere with the outfit system, but then I remembered that this is turn 1 which means you can't possibly have unlocked any stat-boosting outfits yet.

Event: Mirelle personal quest (magic trick)
Problem: Mirelle's sprite is transparent, and if I roll back the text she disappears completely.

(+1)

After investigating Korundi I get a notice that the Blackmail option is available, but the option doesn't show up in her social turn menu.

(1 edit)

I've noticed two issues with the dossiers/social screens.

One is when I had Yakau as my military advisor, but he was still had the "unseen" portrait. If I'm remembering correctly, he agreed to be my advisor without even asking me to do his personal quest - so maybe something in there caused the full portrait not to trigger?  EDIT: I managed to have this glitch happen again, and indeed this time I can confirm that it happened while I recruited him on approval alone.

Second, I'm in a run where I'm engaged to Kxenia and having Vasily as my concubine. All of the Vasily stuff is working perfectly - the change in our relationship status is reflected in his dossier. But there's no acknowledgement of our engagement on Kxenia's dossier. It's shown in the votes screen, though. I also don't have the ability to remove her from her cabinet position or break our engagement. If it matters, I did the villainess proposal option.

(1 edit)

Can you tell me how you're engaged to Kxenia ? I wanted to be with her, but she said she preferred people that are not friends with her to be her lovers in my run

I'm pretty sure you need to have Kxenia in your cabinet in order to marry her, as well as indicating you had a crush on her at the start.

Thank you

Game mechanics show up in Sideo's in-character speech on turn 24. log screenshot was easier sorry

I think most of the time everyone openly talks about Turns?

(+1)

Event: Branekka's dossier

Problem: Inconsistent possessive (Maros' and Maros's are both used):

I've reached grandmaster intrigue, so I've unlocked the mechanic where an electors background, blackmail, allies, and enemies are all automatically revealed to me.

However, when I go to the denounce screen and try and look at the dossier from there, the information doesn't show up. This is an elector who I have met before, just before I got the max intrigue. I'm not sure if this is an intentional gameplay balance (you have to meet them in person to unlock all the secrets) or an oversight.

I've also noticed that, on occasion, an elector who has a blackmail hook won't have the blackmail icon show up on the social screen. It's not a huge problem, since the icon does show up once I actually click on the elector, but it is a small visual issue that I thought I'd point out.

Developer (1 edit)

Not sure about the denounce part but with the blackmail options, those options aren't supposed to appear until you've seen their background, and if you hadn't clicked on their dossier yet you haven't "seen" it. Same for a couple of propose options that aren't visible until the background is revealed. If it's appearing on the dossier and then disappearing again on the card afterwards, that's a little weird.

(3 edits)

I see! That makes sense. Then I suppose I need to report the opposite glitch - I swear that a couple of times the blackmail would show up even without me viewing their background, then. I'll try and go double check on my save file to make sure. edit: I must have misremembered, because I can't seem to replicate it now that I'm trying to.  My mistake! edit 2: i was able to replicate the glitch! posted it in another reply so that it would ping again.

While it's functioning as intended for the most part, I have run into the error once more. Oletko's blackmail option is showing up before I've even looked at his profile. The function is working as intended for Lorkas - it's only after I look at her background that I get the blackmail option for her.

(1 edit)

If you adopt the baby, the announcement shows up, flips (see pic), and then flips back. Not sure if they're supposed to do that.

While fending off an assassination attempt at the pool (unsuccessfully, clearly), it says that there's tools checks being made. I can't figure out what group of skills this is testing. It's very possible I'm missing something, but I think this is inconsistent language.

Developer(+1)

Sometimes tests have an extra bonus marked to indicate the effect of a check you passed/failed earlier and its associated flavor text. In this case there were checks a few lines earlier to see if you had any tools fhpu nf n enltha be n xavsr gung lbh pbhyq hfr gb phg jverf jvgu. It's marked partly for the benefit of people who are actually trying to make notes of how difficult various checks are.

When is a temporary buff/penalty used, versus a temporary skill category, versus making subsequent checks harder? I was confused about the effect of the Exhausted penalty, but eventually saw it had updated the overlay, and was surprised at how brutal the effect was. I’m not entirely sure what “Stance” references. I can sort of guess, but the notifications suggest Stance’s effect is negative? Noticing when a check is Deception (Expert) on one run but was Deception (Graduate) previously seems like you’d need a lot of detailed notes, or a very good memory. :)

Developer(+1)

I don't know that I can give a reliable consistent explanation since things just pour out of my head when writing :D I suppose one difference is - is it a long-term penalty, or is it just affecting the very next check? IIRC there's some exhaustion/injury scenarios where you are affected for the entire rest of the quest, so it gets a bigger notification to draw attention to it. Same with the quests where you can get a specific physical bonus before starting that lasts the whole quest through.

I don't remember where Stance comes in but most likely it can be positive OR negative depending. Tools, in the above example, is either a mild bonus, a nothing, or a mild penalty, depending on what you had to hand at the time. Sometimes, before attempting something difficult, Zorana goes through a whole list of things that might affect how well she does at whatever she's about to do, and all those checks add up to swing the final check, but they were clearly just about "can she do this one thing, how well prepared is she" so after the check where those bonuses are applied, they're not relevant anymore.

(IIRC in these cases I usually just wrote "bonus/penalty to the next check" in the script and Spiky came up with something to show it in the display)

(+1)

Fun stuff, thank you! Always interesting to hear about your process. :D

Event: Agreed to Rippling Eternity's request during negotiations.

Problem: Rippling Eternity asked for a third elector for Heru Prime, the Heru homeworld. Rihlat, the tiny planet it represents itself, is not the subject of the promise (and if it was, it would be getting a second elector, not a third). (Also, during negotiation, Zorana's thoughts/knowledge refer to "the All-Seeing Eye", and I think usually the moon of Mau Prime is referred to as the Blind Eye? )

On turn 15, the sprites for my two friends aren't showing up in the video call. I had been fast forwarding through the dialogue prior to this. If I rolled back for a few dialogues, their sprites did then appear correctly.

Bug regarding the history feature.

It doesn't always correctly display when a choice was made. It seems to always display it correctly for big story scenes that are locked to a specific turn, but it doesn't always show up when you made a choice during a banquet or a quest.

For example: the choice to do piloting over painting here isn't indicated.

I'm going back through a completed run to try and make a guide, which is why I noticed.

Developer

(Noted, but you might not want to do guides at this point as things remain Subject To Change.)

I know it was a bad idea, but when I tried to Charm and Flatter Lukomir the game crashed  with the follow:

I'm sorry, but an uncaught exception occurred.
While running game code:
ScriptError: could not find label 'myrkka_i_lukomir_flirt'.

I did upload  the Full Traceback.

I have found a text box overflow bug in one of the epilogue screens (this appears to happen if there is an engagement and Krovos is on the Cabinet, and it's the one with a decorated skull on it). While I cannot find the rot13 option to spoiler what I think could be a spoilery epilogue item, taking two words out of either of the first two paragraphs would solve the overflow.

(The engagement imperial proclamation flipped briefly, but I thought that was an intentional fancy spin animation to grab attention rather than a coding error).

Developer

(Can you describe a little better what epilogue screen you're on? Rot13 isn't built in here that I know of, I'm just using rot13.com to paste. I don't know why itch doesn't have a default spoiler option. You'd think!)

(1 edit)

I had no idea there was a site that could do rot13 conversions. That will help a lot.

If you want more information, please let me know. I have kept a history of that run. It was in 0.7.6 because I didn't know there was a later version available at the time.

The same bug is in 0.7.9.1, although it says in that version's update report that epilogues are being worked upon, so that makes sense.

Confirming that as of 0.7.21, the version of the bug I found is definitely, and stylishly, fixed :)

I had a similar issue with an epilog screen with different text but the same illustration—wasn't sure if it was a big enough deal to be considered a bug, but it looked weird.

When you first enter Myrkka II, "While Cijna ranks only one Elector..." should probably say "rates" instead of "ranks".

I don't know if supposed to be but about  in the middle of voting from others on Zorana, key error: Tharkas III

Spoilers in the screenshot!!! text displaying outside the border: https://imgur.com/Qeskd76

Not sure if this is actually an error or if I'm just not understanding right, but Yakau's profile lists him as Myrthan but based on his design I would think he'd be Mirrow? He seems to resemble those characters more. Maybe this is mentioned if I dig into his background, just threw me off later when i was looking through my screenshots.

Developer

Oh you're right, we changed this character at design phase but forgot to change his records

After meeting Muistis it said "you sense that they probably has positive feelings about you"

I get a exception screen as follows: Meet star admiral for first time -> Charm and flatter (success) -> Negotiate (I particiapated in Starfall) -> He agrees and votes for me. The crash occurs when I click on the little page that unrolls displaying his vote status changing etc.

Ignore this, updating to current version resolved it.

Weird issue with two electors. I finished the person quest for Krovos then did the quest for Milan (drinking, completed successfully) then it somehow without moving to the next social round or leaving Milan's quest the game decided I would call Krovos to charm him right in front of Milan. Please see the attached picture for how it looked.

"Hair wound around her hair" - this could be accurate and I'm just stupid, but I can't imagine it and I feel like maybe the second 'hair' should be something else.

change shoud for should

Can confirm 0.7.18.1 has the "two instances of hair" issue.

Milan's quest shows "hunting + fishing" as a combined skill check, not sure if it's a joke on purpose.

Developer

This is another one of those "summing up the results of previous checks" things. There were a bunch of checks right before this that determined the quality of your hook, bait, and knowledge of the lake.

ok, thank you! I think because "fishing" has the same name form as "hunting" I found it confusing. I think I would have found "fishing strategy" clearer but it probably goes without saying.

This is minor, but when I recruit Yakau, the pop up says that the fleet will now escort the palace, but their actual instructions remain as "Hold position at Heru I". If I spend another action to talk to Yakau and tell him to escort me, then the fleet actually starts following, but either he should do that by default or the popup should just say that Zorana now has the ability to give directions to the fleet (although I'm not sure if there's actually any point to moving the fleet at this stage of the game).

I had 25+ in Piloting and Layout and 15 in Operations. I took Kxenia's computer lesson and it put me over the outfit threshold but didn't give me the outfit and seemingly locked me out of the outfit. I assume this also happens with Vasily and arts.

(1 edit)

A couple of questions (possible but not certain bugs), having taken a quite different route through the game to usual, on version 0.7.18.1:

Is Dragocen's royal portrait (visible in the Turn 1 starting sequence and one of the Cautious mood activities) intended to have a constellation tattoo? My understanding of the lore is that this is something Myrkkans receive on becoming adults, for religious reasons. If Dragocen is old enough to have had an adolescent daughter at the time the portrait was presumably painted (given it's there at the start of Turn 1), Dragocen would be expected to have undergone the Myrkkan adult initiation rites at some point. (If there's a spoiler about Dragocen's beliefs being different, the imperial portrait artist was trying to make an aesthetic statement or some other in-game reason exists, however non-spoilery, please put that reason in rot13 or something - adding lore would be an equally valid solution for this as changing the image, and potentially simpler at this point).

I'm also not sure if this sequence of checks that appears whether Branekka is asked about the weather at the Heru III reception is intentional, coincidental or a bug. It's the first time I've seen any check of the same area not be presented in ascending or descending order:

Developer

For the Dragocen question - that's just the result of the filters that were run over the portraits to make them into vague painted background portraits rather than looking like people on a viewscreen. They almost lost their faces entirely, really - if you look, Milania has no nose and Dragocen's features are barely hinted at.  That, plus the angle and the lighting, make it very hard to pinpoint details, so the tattoos he would have simply aren't visible in this display.  Naq vg vf xvaq bs vzcbegnag gung jr qba'g frr gurz gbb pyrneyl.

For Branekka - that looks like you may have been using Skip to progress rapidly through the text and therefore you're seeing the checks from many different dialog lines all at the same time. There are multiple Empathy checks throughout her conversation and that's what you'd get if you were zooming through and only stopped at the 'can't tell how she feels about you' line.

(3 edits)

The Dragocen explanation makes a lot of sense.  Vs n (erny-yvsr) zhfrhz unq cnvagvatf qvqa'g ybbx yvxr cnvagvatf jura gurl jrer fhccbfrq gb qb fb, V'q or qvfnccbvagrq. Vg fgnaqf gb ernfba gung gur Urnirayl Cnynpr'f ehyref jbhyq rkcrpg gurve cnvagvatf gb or cnvagreyl gbb. :)

I wasn't trying to skip the Branekka dialogue, so I will try and test that more carefully next run in case I clipped the scroll wheel or something (since the scroll wheel is set to rollback/roll-forward on my computer, thus having the same optical effect as a temporary Skip function).

Tested in 0.7.21, carefully ensuring no accidental tap-forward with the scroll wheel, and the issue isn't there.

One minor visual bug for Ginnungagap the ebon blot. Unlike every other possible name for the ebon blot, Ginnungagap overshoots the name box in the Social screen. I believe the solution is to do whatever was done for the default falcon Princess Caramel Macchiato, or the viper custom name (yes, the font shrinks in both of those cases, but the text does fit the box for Princess Caramel Macchiato and the custom viper name).

I just ran into an issue with Zolot. I did his personal quest early to secure his vote, he withdrew his vote from me to pledge it to onol Gfvexbal, and after I let Rfznenev trg nffnffvangrq ng gur bcren, I went back to see if I could reclaim it. If I try to negotiate, I get the message that he's not taking my calls until I've finished his personal quest:

However, there's no option for the personal quest since I've already completed it and turned it in. He did accept a flattery call and a call with an offer of a cabinet position.

(1 edit)

The initial explanation for Denounce says that denouncing an elector will "ensure that they never vote for you", but in a run where I denounced literally every possible elector (I'm trying to collect all the assassinations), I still got 2 votes (1 from Draug, which was definitely Stoyan, since Sinnipart was pledged to Lukamir, and 1 from Myrkka 1, which was presumably Korvos, because he was the only one there with a positive opinion of me). Not sure if this is a bug or if the description of denounce is misleading and the actual effect is just "lowers their approval a lot"

(1 edit)

Some Electors have a lot of enemies. If you happened to do those ones near the beginning of the run, then denounced a bunch of their enemies, that could have raised their opinion enough to change their mind and go positive again. If you've made other decisions they like as well, that would increase their opinion too (there are a lot of plot decisions that inevitably will affect what the Empire thinks of you).

I suspect that a denouncement which has special attention in the plot may be a true baked-in "will never vote for you" (for example, kicking someone out of a reception in front of everyone after receiving specific incriminating information). However, I'm not sure whether a standard denouncement completely locks out the . I think the most effective way tr troubleshoot this might be to pick up a high-Media person - and then have fun denouncing everyone else, getting Empathy built up as high as possible. It would be an enjoyable run regardless of the result!

Attempted a test. Did not see any vote changes, but definitely not an absolute answer because I got assassinated in a scene I couldn't avoid due to the choices I made. I will need to reconsider my choices before doing the next attempt to test this bug.

A different run indicates that some Electors can change their votes back to you if doing certain options that are still available and if their opinion of you is high enough. However, they are the sort of things that would make sense to enable a vote change even in the context of a denouncement essentially meaning the Elector won't vote for you. My specific example was Vkvy jnf qrabhaprq ohg gura jnf jvyyvat gb ibgr sbe zr svsgrra gheaf yngre jura V nterrq gb trg ratntrq gb Ynhsva. That certainly isn't something that would sneak up on a player and surprise them at the vote.

Developer (1 edit)

.... actually that sounds like a bigger bug, you shouldn't have been able to talk to her at that point!

Please could you tell me how I get the history across to you, so you can see exactly what path I took to get to that state? I've tried saving the log but it doesn't appear to include the history, only the loading details.

I'm willing to send the save file itself, but am aware that copying saves between different people's installations is deprecated in current versions of Ren'Py for security reasons. I'm also willing to compose and send a document that documents what happened on a step-by-step basis (primarily that would be useful if you wanted to see the changes in popularity rating from the Imperial+ surveys I kept doing during the run, since neither the history nor the save file necessarily saves that in a convenient format for bug testing).

Developer

No worries, I tested denouncing her and the propose option did not go away even though the others did, so I don't need any further details at the moment.

Excellent! Happy that I could be of some use in finding the bug, and best wishes in fixing it to your satisfaction :)

While I haven't seen much in the way of bugs during my playthroughs so far, I did get this visual bug in space navigation.  I was on Heru III, and the white dotted lines connecting it to other routes were suddenly gone. They reappeared after the next turn, though. This is the only time I've seen this error.

Developer

That is (probably) not an error but plot-related - if there is a dhnenagvar va rssrpg then the warp gate in and out of Heru III is temporarily disabled.

Ohh I see. Good to know!

If you've already caught/survived Milan's assassin and then talk to Branekka for the first time, she still wants  you to Denounce him... but you can't, because he's already been kicked out of the Heavenly Palace for sending an assassin. So she won't give you her vote.

Ah, a "his day is already ruined"?
