I really love the idea behind this game and the music and art are very cute.
I had a lot of trouble clicking on the words in characters' speech bubbles - it was as though when the cursor was changed, it was underneath them instead of on them.  It seemed only to work sometimes.  It didn't seem to be possible for me to actually control swapping words in - that seemed to happen automatically if I stole a word that I didn't have yet that *could* be swapped.  As someone else mentioned, it didn't seem to be distinguishable whether a word could be swapped or could only be stolen.
So, I'm afraid those combined to make it difficult for me to form a full impression by playing further, but even so.  This idea is fantastic ^_^  Thank you for making this.  Cheers!

I loved every second of this game. I want an entire world-spanning RPG where you go around stealing people's words and putting words in their mouth. Excellent work, great entry!

One of my favorite submissions so far! Such a unique concept. I love the visuals, and I seriously love that song... it's so catchy! The Magic Shop bit made me chuckle, too. I love how the characters react to getting their words stolen or replaced.

But it was sometimes unclear to me which words I could steal and which I could swap or replace.

That being said, I'd love to see this game expanded! I can already imagine all of the goofy interactions with hapless NPC's...

Creative concept indeed, the gameplay works well! The characters, dialogue, and art are charming! A game well done! :D

What a unique game! I could easily see this being expanded into a bigger rpg. The underlying concept was very cool.

I love the idea! There's definitely some rough edges but with some bug eliminating, this could be really fun to play if it gets bigger.

Great twist on the jam theme, the game is engaging and fun, art style is the cheery on top and simply hooks you into it.

There are a few bugs but with some polish this would become a game worth buying. Well done to the team behind I’ll Take Your Word For It!

Really creative concept, first game I play where you are a word-thief! With some polish on the controls you could easily make a lot more content for this! Great job!

Interesting idea for the theme and well done! I really like it

Despite the glitches, I have to give top marks for this one. Great art, great concept, unique puzzles. Well done guys!

This game is absolutely ADORABLE! The writing is amazing and the theme and puzzles are so unique! I had some trouble stealing the words and it crashed on me but I had a blast!

This game was a on of fun.  I played it all the way through.  The game dialogue was well written, and the music really fit the atmosphere,  Over all it was really fun, and way different then everything else I played so far.

Definitely a unique take on the theme! I also like how you titled the game, "I will take your word for it" lol

I really like the concept, the game is really fun to play, though it needs some polishing, as other people have already mentioned, you should make it easier to click on words and make the dialogue system a little better (it should not skip to the next dialogue, just should skip the animation and show the full dialogue).

I would also suggest to remove the "words I know" box when the player is not in a dialogue, it just gets in the way otherwise.

I was not able to go past the second gaurd, I could not figure out the word I need, I am thinking the dialogue should not have been "the gate is not open" and should have been something like "the gate is closed" and we could replace "closed" with "open"... or maybe I am just missing something

I would love to see a full version of this game, please make a post-jam version! (and please tell me when you do!)

Developer

Thank you so much for your feedback! We plan on working on this game further after the jam is completed. As well, if you want to get past the guard, the word you are looking for is "totally" :)

This is a funny concept! I wasn't able to complete it, but I loved what I saw. I got a crash despite what I thought I did right by following your instructions. I'd recommend making it easier to click on the words, as currently the hit boxes are too small. This game has lots of potential! Great work!

Thank you so much! How far were you able to get?

Submitted

It seemed like I exhausted all of the dialogs from the mushrooms in both areas, and got past the first guard, but nothing seemed to work to get past the second one.

Developer(+1)

You are able to replace words by selecting one you have already gathered. Some NPC's may have dialogue options that cannot be stolen, rather has to be swapped out with something else. Hope that helps!

As someone said, it does crash when you jump and try to talk to the guard. I was trying to come back to the second guard (what word do I need for him?) and jumped while trying to get past guard number one.

It's a very fun mechanic, and I enjoyed it! However, the hit box for grabbing the words is a bit funky and left me clicking at it, hoping to grab the word. Maybe that's on me for playing on a small resolution.

Developer

Sorry to hear about the crash! I posted a quick-fix for the crash in the comments, if you couldn't progress further into the game. Also thank you for the feedback :)

NOTES

Some words can be swapped out with the words you have already found by selecting a word, then clicking on a chosen word in their dialogue.

GAME BREAKING BUGS:

If you enter into forest with the three mushrooms, leave, and then go back to the forest, it will remove the dialogue from the blue mushroom and prevent you from progressing further. Please talk to the blue mushroom before leaving to avoid this issue!

If you go into the second forest area after completing the first guard's dialogue, the first guard will "reset", and if talked to will crash the game. To fix this, please do not go into the second forest area again if you complete the first guard's dialogue!

Great concept! I had an aha moment while playing. It's a little buggy, but definitely has potential.

if pressing e skipped the dialogue animation rather than the rest of the line it would be better. I have no idea how you could make a full game out of this but this demo is fun and well-written. Sad I couldn't use buttsniffer even once :(

That was a lot of fun. It took me a bit to realize I could replace words, but you had a really original idea.  I did crash once while talking to the guard after I already got his word though.  I'm really impressed with what you made.
