Interesting ! I feel it would help engagement if you added some more choices along the way. But I understand it might not be easy with the story you're trying to tell.

Developer(+1)

Thanks!  And yeah - I started out wanting to have more choices ideally, but I was not sure where to put them in the scope of the jam such that I could fully handle them properly and do all the writing for that.  So it ended up as-is.  XD  I'm actually not sure that I can go back and change it without fundamentally changing the experience it shaped up to be at this point, however.  I'm leaning towards leaving the writing as-is unless/until I figure out how I could add more choices without muddying the points made.  (At least one person has let me know EXACTLY where they wanted a choice but didn't have it haha, so it's something for me to consider carefully.)

This is the first visual novel I play in a jam, its quite interesting what you came up with. Deep concepts that really make you think about the meaning behind life. Its great to use games as a mean to convey emotions and deep stories too.

I hope you have some time to play and review mine.

Developer

Thank you for playing ^_^  I'm glad if it makes folks think, that's definitely a goal of it ^_^
I'll be happy to look at yours in a short bit.

I always respect the developers who make visual novels during a game jam, and the story in this game is so nice and deep. Nice work! Also, I kinda like this art style. Can't wait to see a complete version of this game together with some music after the jam. Really a fantasitic work for 48 hours!

Developer

Thank you so much for playing ^_^ I am really happy to hear that you liked it.  It'll probably be a bit delayed compared to the end of the rating period, I think I had said in a previous reply I estimated about a month, but if you do ever come back to the updated version I hope you also enjoy that. ^_^

I liked it :)

It was interesting to have a more philosophical twist on the theme, and I went back and explored a few paths I didn’t take the first time.

I kinda liked the art as-was; I read it as impressionistic which suited the narrative. Although I think a bit of background ambient noise could have gone a long way here (but 48 hours is never long enough).

Developer(+1)

Thanks!  I'm so glad you liked it and explored the paths ^_^  I do intend to add the missing background music and art; I definitely also opine that background sound is pretty essential for this sort of thing, I really had to resign myself to it so that I didn't end up shorting the writing work in the deadline XD

Nice game! It's really text driven. I liked the sketches that you used and enjoyed the story very much.

Developer

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it ^_^

Great narrative and connection to the theme! Felt very personal and touching. Will be great to get some music in there too!

Developer

Thank you!  I'm so glad you liked it.  (And I completely agree on the music.)

This is too deep.

I may be wrong with my interpretation but being someone who already wrote stories myself and released them in visual novel format (about 3 of them as of now), I can't avoid to think the story is part of you. I hope you're doing well otherwise, the writing in this one is very deep and well written. Despite of the default UI and missing audio along with minimalistic graphics, I got hooked with the writings. Good job for your first game. You will be doing great in the future for storytelling / narrative games. Well done. :)

Developer

Ahaha I thought at first you disapproved with that first comment XD
I'm really glad you found the writing immersive!  No worries about myself, while I would say that every story that comes from me has part of myself in it, you could also say that every story I take in becomes part of me as well in some way.  I can't speak to whether it gives off insight into my thinking patterns - probably in some ways - but I'm alright ^_^
At any rate thank you so much for playing and I'm very flattered by your praise! ^_^

Really good writing! Nice to see another visual novel in entry.

Developer

Thanks so much!  I really liked yours as well ^_^

Submitted(+1)

Very deep and interesting approach to the theme! Nice job on how you're building the atmosphere, the graphics and the story!

Developer

Thank you so much for the compliments ^_^  I'm glad you found it interesting!

I love story driven games, this one is really great. ~ Do check mine and give your valueable feedback:D

Developer

Thank you ^_^  Sure, I will be happy to check yours out in a short bit.

Lovely! Thank you for sharing your art and writing! I think a visual novel is an interesting choice for this theme and I think you did a really great job with it!

Developer

Thank you so much for playing!  I am so glad you liked it! ^_^

Submitted(+1)

that was really interesting! sharing thinks about things in a form of visual novel is not your typical game :P i really like the surrealness of art and narration, and how the thoughts don't explain themselves too hard

the game's ui does feel kinda preset-y, and sometimes text goes a bit too close to the bottom ui, but those r small things

really great job on your game! it surely was an experience

Developer(+1)

Thank you!  I'm glad you liked the style of it.
As for the UI yeah... the running list of things that got cut off due to the time limit: 1) music 2) customize the UI - it is LITERALLY Ren'Py default, which hopefully explains exactly what you experienced XD  3) a couple of pieces of missing background art
I'm glad that you found it interesting despite that limitation! ^_^  Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

this is a well thought out and straight-up impressive submission! I did not expect to see a visual novel-type game and I am glad that you made a quality one with visually pleasing art! Cheers :D

Developer

Thank you so very much!! ^_^  I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I like how the tree background was drawn; it seems scribbled and only half there,  which is a very interesting aesthetic.

It was a very bold choice to do a visual novel for a game jam, which I respect you for. I think you should have worked a little more on the interface, because its a bit out of place with your art style.

Well done on the game!

Developer

Thanks so much!  I wanted to customize the interface, for sure - it was on my list right after the music, which fell to the cutoff (it's higher up the list than providing the missing pieces of background art to be honest XD )  Thanks so much for your feedback and your compliments ^_^

Visual novel in a game jam :o After the game i was questioning my existence which is first for a game jam game to make me do that :D

Like others said the game definetly need music and enviroment sounds like birds chriping in woods or people talking at the shopping area etc. Also the contrast between the background and the character is not enough you should work on that.

Other then these i think its a bold desicion to make a visual novel for the game jam. Original take on the theme and interesting ideas well done :D

Developer

I'm so glad you found it interesting ^_^  I did regret that the art didn't come out with enough contrast; I expect I'll be able to do a deal better with my next game, thanks to the learning-lots-of-things phase that was this jam for me, and the feedback everyone's been giving, including yours - much appreciated! ^_^
Thanks very much for playing and for sharing your thoughts ^_^

That was an unexpected angle to the theme ! I'm not into visual novels, but that was a really interesting experience, congrats =)

Developer

Thank you very much!! ^_^  Glad you found it interesting.

nice visual novel.

Developer(+1)

Thank you!! ^_^

This turned existential quickly ;) I'm not big on visual novels, but can tell you put a lot of effort into the dialog.  Music would definitely have been a good addition, but I understand that time was tight

Developer

Hehe ^_^  Yeah, I am planning to do an update (though it'll probably be something like a month later rather than immediately after the jam rating) which will be able to have the music in it.  ^_^  Thanks so much for playing!

Submitted(+1)

I don't normally like visual novels but this one really got my attention all the way through. Very interesting. I don't think I understood everything but it does make think about it. Good job, the art is also very cool.

Developer

Thank you so much - I'm so happy because thinking about it is exactly what it's meant to do! ^_^  Thanks for playing ^_^

Submitted(+1)

Original take on the theme! Don't see many virtual novels in game jams so this was a really nice surprise! Very nice art with a compelling story! Great job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much!  I'm very glad you liked it! ^_^
