I like how the music/visuals change the more stressed you are! It's a cool concept in general.

One thing that I think might be improved is the UX. Somehow it doesn't feel natural to use. For some actions you need the mouse, and for others - the keyboard. Perhaps it would be better to make everything keyboard controllable? Or maybe change the ratio so that one needs to press more keys on the KB and click fewer things with mouse? Right now I feel like I'd be faster if I can just use the keyboard, and that the constant switch between mouse and kb, as well as some animations are slowing me down. This raises my IRL stress! :D

Developer

The balance between mouse and keyboard is completely intentional in making interactions more varied and stressful, I can see how it could cause problems though.

Good take on the theme, not the most original on the 'Overwork' type of game, but well executed in term of passing. The art is fine, filter on music and post-processing sell the idea of being stress out, and didn't really encounter any bug. Answering email seem slow though, we should be able to answer as soon as possible. Right now, we have to wait to long for the animation to finish, so it's not really possible to delay our inevitable demise into burnout :)

Overall good work !

Developer(+1)

The timing reflects the short amount of time for an email to be sent, and allowed us to make modifications for when the computer is slowed down. I persoanlly think it's better that way but thanks for the feedback!

Wow, what a game ! :o

Stress at work is well transcribed, and you feel overworked very quickly ^^'
The blur/ chromatic aberration effect may be a bit too strong at times, but it brings a lot to the atmosphere (along with the other distortions), becoming more and more stressful (:

Great job ! :D

A very original idea, maybe me a little stressed out while playing it. I enjoyed my time with it and feel like it has a very nice aesthetic quality to it.

Submitted

Really fun and original game. If I had one nitpick, it'd be to turn down the chromatic aberration just a bit, it becomes impossible to read the messages, and I couldn't even see my score at the end. But apart from that I couldn't say anything else , It's quite good.

Developer

Yeah I agree with you there, also thought it was a bit much but never took time to actually tone down the value.

Submitted

That's a pretty cool game! I enjoyed it, it's a clever concept, i really felt stressed out hahaha! good job! rated! please check out my game too :D

Developer(+1)

Im afraiI personally wont be able to rate your game... Ill ask the others on the team if one of them can.

Submitted

Nice execution of the idea, it does a good job stressing the player, maybe it needs some work on the audio. Great game!

Developer

Could you be more specific? Would love to know what part bothered you

Submitted

Nice Game! I really did feel overworked. Maybe you could have random events that pauses the game(dialogue box)  and ask you to make a decision, depending on your choice it could reduce your stress/make you feel better.  I liked the blur effect and the audio slowing down.

Submitted

I personally can't relate to this game, cause I don't get that much messages in a year :)

it's an interesting concept but I didn't understand how you get the job done.

And it's fun btw :)

Developer(+1)

You simply click on the email icon and then press the related key. Answer enough emails before the deadline runs out and you complete a piece of work

Submitted

Oh! I thought they're only for reputation, and you work when you don't answer your messages or emails :)

Submitted

nice job! I like the fake out by having the giant letter as the email thumb. There's a good idea here but I think you could speed up animations and add a little variety to the interactions to pick up the pace and keep it interesting.

Had fun with it ! Thanks!

Developer

What variety are you referring to? Im all ears if you have any ideas

Submitted

Definitely a unique take on the out of control theme :)   I would potentially throw in a few pointless meetings that can run over and make you late for the next thing  :)

Nice work :)

Developer

Nice idea on meetings!

Submitted

It definitely gave me the vibe of being out of control. Nearing the center of my run I felt like I was able to fall into a rhythm and get a lot of work done. When I ran out of emails things started going south and my coworkers didn't like me as much and then my stress started going up very quickly. Thanks for making something so interesting!

Submitted

cool concept! i couldn't figure out how to get my coworkers to like me though :( seems like they just offered coffee once and then when i declined they decided i wasn't worth the effort lol. definitely felt the stress of being out of control of my life.

Developer(+1)

Office reputation is affected by whether or not you take a coffee break, whether your bladder fills up to max, and your answer to office messages on your phone. Thing is we didnt really make enough different messages to keep it interesting so most answers were just neutral answers...

Good idea, but could use some polishing. The tutorial texts and your score were cut off. There were also a few grammatical errors in the wording. I wish there was more to the reply part than just pressing a button. I really liked when there was a hot ad and we had the option to either watch it or restart the computer; I would like to see more of that. Perhaps for the emails instead of just pressing a button to reply, you could give us two options just like the ad and we get to choose. That way the user feels they have more control. But overall, good art and no further bugs. Well done.

"The tutorial texts and your score were cut off." I made the tutorial part 20 mins before submission closing. I totally forgot about the anchors, and eveything is achored to the middle :/  For the score screen, it's probably the same issue.

"There were also a few grammatical errors in the wording." It's because English isn't mine and (probably) Lil Narwhal's first language. Sorry about that!

Developer

haha English is a strong language for me but I could have made stuff too fast of course (I wouldnt be surprised If I saw typos here and there)!

Fitted the theme really good, but was a bit frustration. Oh well, I had fun, that is what matter xD

Developer

Yeah I get the frustration, we didnt have much time to spend on balancing the game values...

Submitted

Really stressful but fun and fitted the theme perfectly. The game felt really polished and I love the music and overall atmosphere the game had. The effect of slowly losing your mind was also really interesting and reinforced the theme of getting out of control. Overall a very fun and creative game, great job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the kind words!

Wow! I really liked it. It really recreates the feeling of working in a busy office and dealing with constant distractions! I also really like that you had time to add a tutorial screen, something that my game could have used. I also really like the odd phishing ad or a computer reboot to spice things up!

Some things I would change are: make the player unable to restart the computer while the guy is on coffe break. Make the other character on screen a silhouete or something because at the start I was confused of what character I am. Try to shrink the game's file size, because a 40MB download for a rather simple game is a big turn off for a lot of people. Also the music in the game over screen is a tad too load. Honestly it spooked my a bit when I lost haha.

Anyway good job. Definitely an interesting and fun game! Good job!

Glad you liked the game!

"I also really like that you had time to add a tutorial screen" It was done 20 mins before submissions closing xD

"Try to shrink the game's file size, because a 40GB download for a rather simple game is a big turn off for a lot of people." If I am correct, unity project in itself is 20MB, and during a jam, game size should be the last thing, you think about.

Unfortunately, because of our artist leaving mid-jam, We spent about 2h doing simple art for the game, which could've been used for polishing.

But in the end, I am really happy that we managed to pull this off. Thanks for great feedback!

Developer(+1)

Did you say 40 GB? You must mean Mb right? Im not too sure what could be causing a bigger filesize I must say.

Submitted

Oh yeah! Megabytes, sorry! I edited the comment!

Cool concept and captures the feeling working in a dead end office job haha. Good job!

Submitted

i had a lot of fun. i'm even a littel sad i can't watch my score (cut off), so i cant see if i do better or worse.

Developer(+1)

I think unfortunately we broke the score system when changing the game over screen last minute haha

Submitted

very nice little fun game and awesome art you used.

Developer

The background art was made by our artist. The only art we used were simple UI icons.
