How did you incorporate the theme and lore?
Theme: I took the theme literally, by that i mean that you have to break a sign wich says "SYSTEM".
Interpretation of the lore: An all mighty being gifts you the power of the holy slingshot ("As They Dropped It In My Hands"), wich you can use to fulfil your duties. And all of that right before you started loosing hope ("This Was Not The End")

This was a great entry! The platforming was really smooth (except for the inconsistent double jump). At first getting the key was kind of confusing because I thought I touched both doors and nothing happened, so I did the typical jump into everything to see if something would work, and finally it did. But after that, the game itself made so much sense and felt satisfying to play. Keep up the great work!
I streamed it here:
Great game! I liked opening up new parts of the map with new abilities. The level design was pretty good as well with allowing me to jump down easily once one area was complete.
I did it!
great submission and super impressive! very thorough and great attention to details imo!
few notes for improvement:
- i was able to cheese the system a bit by shooting rocks through the ground at certain switches 😛
- the big boss on top left (i think before the green barrier?) was a bit confusing because it shot back the rocks at me instead of just absorbing them like the rest of the enemies, made me think i couldn’t kill him so i tried to pass by without killing him until i killed him by accident
- I unlocked a couple things with the huge red buttons but i have no clue what they were still lol
- took me a while to understand what to do with the ground stomp
btw, I LOVED the dialog system in the beginning of the game, would have been neat to see it again after collecting an orb or something with some funny dialog, and the option to click to move to the next sentence would be neat too!
overall loved this! 🙌
Thanks for playing and thanks for the feedback! I dont know how I forgot to make the bullets dissapear when hitting the boss. And yeah I agree, I should've made it a bit more clearer what the stomp actually does.
The dialog system isn't really a dialog system, just an animation and oh man was it frustrating. It took most of my time so I figured I should just leave it as it is and not add more, I would have probably broken my system if I did. Next time I'll try to make a working and functional dialog :)
re: dialog system, check out dotween, you can probably make the same thing with it and make it even more dynamic, i started making one for this game jam but ended up not using it due to time constraints
(You can see it here in action:) https://twitter.com/drowsyfoxgames/status/1425070218615853056?s=20 it’s super easy to use
I don’t mind sharing the code if you are interested! way easier than using the unity animation thing, i try to avoid it like fire tbh, i find it very clunky and not fun to work with or automate so i dont blame you for avoiding it later on!
Wow what a complete experience with some cool game design built on top, great game.
Cool metroidvania ! I really like the idea of having "the system" there from the start slaping it but dealing so little damage that you have to find ways of dealing more damage, very clever idea. Also the puzzles with the sling shot and switches were very nice.
Good game !
I really like this game! The art is cute and the story is funny, it could use with some small things, like checkpoints so you don't go back to the beginning every time a mob offscreen killed you when you jumped to a new area (although I can't complain about that, with my game), particles or sounds when you stomped rocks, a clearer idea of what happened when you pressed the red switches or how you unlocked the keys. Having the pixels-per-unit be consistent would've also helped, and the pixel perfect camera, although annoying to use, would've made stuff like the vines that moved when you touched them (very nice detail btw) look way better.
Overall one of my favorites so far!
Fun little game, loved the dialogue at the beginning. I also think the art style is very nice, although i really don’t like the blurred background. There is nice world interaction (moving objects when you pass them etc) but the impact sound for the stomp attack is missing, which was a bit confusing. (You could even add a bit of screen shake for that to make it feel more powerful)
I read your description of the game and it said nothing about using the Mouse to shoot, so i was stuck in first scene for a few minutes, maybe add it to the description. (I thought it was bugged, because double jump was not working either, but as i now know, its an unlockable skill)
I also think the breakable walls for the ground jump need to be a bit more visually distinct, i didn’t find them at first, because they looked just like the material in the starting scene, which i thought was indestructible.
But all in all an enjoyable experience. (Especially the dialogue :P)
PS: The game was logging insanely hard when using chrome, was fine with firefox.
Best game of the jam goes to this game!!!!
I hope you be atleast at top 20!!!
This was fun! I liked the story bits and the little world was fun to explore with the metroidvania style elements. I think there was a some issues with communication though A lot of the backgrounds and level tiles are really similar in color and it made things confusing at times. Especially with the stompable blocks being almost the same exact color as the cave tiles. It did actually put me into a bad position at one point where I totally missed the stompable part to the left of the starting point and picked up the green orb first, then when I found that and picked up the red orb it actually downgraded my damage from 10K to 1000. There was also some issues with the game eating inputs on occasion. It seems like if you try to double jump while your character is in the middle of a one way platform the game just eats the jump making some parts tricky to navigate. Also there were a couple times where I just stopped being able to fire my slingshot but then after moving to the next room or waiting a while I was able to again. It was also a little annoying that you couldn't walk up steep hills because the character would just slide back down, but that's pretty minor. So overall I think this was a really fun and creative game, there are just a few rough edges to iron out controls and art-wise to make it really great!
I think more could've been done to tell the play what the big red buttons do, as I think I sequence broke the game from this lol. But very fun game!
