How did you incorporate the theme and lore?
"Break the system" by hacking into the mainframe and stealing the secrets from this mystery building, or "break it" by refusing to do as you are told and just get out of there.

"You can feel the potential" of the items you pick up, giving you the power to escape. But that escape... is it actually "the end"? are you actually "free"?

Been going at this for days now! I've been so focused completing level 20. xD I had finished everything and was on my way to the exit when I was caught just now. There was a couple of days struggle to get the game working, but installing via the itch-app was indeed the solution - and it was worth it!

I put a lot of time into playing this, it was fun for a very long time, and very interesting due to the (very cool) map randomisation. Even though I was brutally punished, I'd say my favourite maze was indeed the 20-sized. After a while, when you had explored a larger section of the map and actually had to consult the map to see where the door you'd missed were, and what path you should take there - it was a lot of fun for me who have a soft spot for puzzles and tactics.

I also think you've done an amazing job with minimal assets. The colors, movement and animations actually made me not even react to the character being "only" a cylinder. My brain was sort of tricked for a long time that it was a lot more detailed than that (this is a good thing!)

Lastly, an improvement suggestion: while it was tons of fun and adrenaline-pumping to have one shot only and no misstakes were allowed, now when I was caught the last time after a looooong period of playing and exploring, it was just too much of lost progress to restart again. Some sort of allowance for one misstake would do a lot. Like when you've opened 10 rooms you'll activate some "extra life" that would make you restart the room you were caught in, but to get a new extra chance, you again need to complete X rooms. Just a thought! I will come back to this! :D

Thank you so much for your nice comment!

I’m reworking the game so it is a bit more optimized and I’m planning to add more rooms and challenges to make it less repetitive on bigger mazes (though I’m glad to hear that even for the level 20 it still feels nice).

Also thank you for the suggestion. I’m now thinking of a nice checkpoint feature to add.

Glad you enjoyed the game so much…

Hope you revisit it when I update it!

I will! :D

Nice entry. The maze style was cool and the difficulty names EPIC, I got stuck in a wall when entering through a door,I got stuck in a wall when entering through a door, I suppose because the character does not appear in the center when he enters but maintains his position in one of the axes and teleporting in the other. good game

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing!

First comment about the difficulty names, thought I add them in vain haha.

Thank you for the feedback and the bug report (you are correct about the issue, haven’t had the time to fix).

Hey! Sorry I don't have time to do a full written out review, but I did play your game on stream which can be found here(Check the description for timestamps to all the games if you want to just see yours):

Got to play it after downloading with the itch.io app! (on mac)

room/level generation is awesome, gameplay is pretty fun too!

few notes for improvement:

  • performance was really bad :( i’m on a late 2019 macbookpro with 555x radeon pro graphics card, it is unplayable with anything larger than 3 rooms, are you maybe rendering all the rooms even if they aren’t in focus? that’s my first guess
  • one of the generated room put me on an obstacle/wall after moving through it forcing me to restart

overall great submission! awesome job :D

Developer(+1)

Hi! Glad you enjoyed the game :)

About the room with the wall: It has been reported but I haven’t had the time to fix.

About the optimization: I render only the room you are in and the ones around that. But I know the games could use a lot of optimization. It is also on my todo list.

Thank you for playing and your feedback!

Great game! Pretty daunting at first but once you discover the map it is a lot easier. I managed to get out while also hacking the pc. I like the tension of having collected everything and having to go through each room to get to the exit.

I did manage to find a bug. In this type of room, you can get stuck in walls when you enter.

Hi! Thank you for playing.. I’m glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks for the bug report. Other users have also reported it and I’m planning to fix that.

went to try and play the game but the webgl one freezes my browser, and when i downloaded the mac version it says it’s damaged :(

any chance you can re-export for mac please? 🙏

Developer

The Mac version works if you install it using the itch.io app.

Kind of similar to my game (using spotlights as a key element of play). But I found yours a lot more fun :) Nice work.

Developer

Thank you for playing! Glad you liked it!

Cool game, really nice mood and ambience, the stealth is fun. My only issue would be with a specific room, if the layout made you enter from top door, there would be an enemy right away ready to see you without much time to react and it lead to a couple of cheap deaths. Other than that it was cool, cool ending too.

Developer(+1)

Hi, Thank you for playing!

Yes I know which room you are referring to. There is another one you can get stuck if you don’t use the door in the right position.

I’m planning to re-do some of the rooms and add more in the future.

Great game! Definitely going to try out 20 room mode in my free time after the jam!

The game was really fun to play.

Developer

Thank you for playing! Glad you had fun…

The game was very fun! I like how it's procedurally generated so it's different each time, it was a little punishing that you had to start all over if you got seen once, and it wasn't clear what the hitboxes were, but other than that it's pretty good!

The audio also lagged sometimes, but idk why that would be

Developer

Thank you for playing!

I noticed the audio lags (mostly in the browser version) when:

  1. You are starting a new maze
  2. You are changing rooms

In those moments the game is loading/unloading some scenes and resources so it gets kind of stuck, but I did not have the time (or the knowledge) to fix completely.

I’m still trying to find a way to run it nicely and optimized across all platforms.

Really Nice game! even tho I was only able to play the baby mode as I am not a "Pro Gamer" lol.

really liked the visuals and the sounds.

Developer

Thank you for playing!

There is no shame in the “baby mode”. Do not feel bad.

Glad you liked it! :)

Pretty neat. Simple and to the point. The WebGL version had some issues, but I downloaded the game through the itch.io app and played awesome. Love seeing so many Stealth Games in this jam :D

Developer

Thank you for playing!

Yes I know the web version is not that great. Glad you could still play the desktop version!

Submitted

Well thankfully you made a Mac version. Not many people doing that for some reason.

Developer

I only did because somebody else asked for it.

I didn’t at first because I don’t have a Mac so there is no way for me to test it works properly.

Nice to hear that it actually works!

Love stealth games. Great job!

Developer

Thank you for playing! Glad you liked it

The audio is amazing! Nice job!

Developer

The only thing I didn’t actually make! Thanks! lol

Submitted

graphics looked like they took some time to make, might have been more effective if you spent more time on the actual game play. The ai's don't actually follow you, they just move up and down, moreover, the game's not optimized properly, for example, it took me about 5 minutes just to load into the game. Furthermore, the map doesn't completely fill the browser screen, making gameplay close to impossible since you would need to manually scroll.

Submitted(+1)

have you ever played a stealth game? the ai's never fallow you. and also you can fullscreen

Submitted

for example, in my game the AI's are set to follow you once you're within a certain distance. I was playing it in the browser, so maybe that's what caused it?

Developer

Hi, Elfor. Thank you for your comment.

There is not any “AI” in this game. The drones follow a path and that’s it, if they catch you (you get caugh under their light), then you lose.

I enabled the fullscreen option after your comment to avoid the issue of scrolling.

And I know the optimization is not the best. If you download the desktop version you might have a better experience. (Note that the Mac version is not tested because I don’t have a Mac)

Submitted

Yeah I get it. Wouldn't it have been a bit better if you had them go on their per-defined path, but when a player gets too close, have the enemy start chasing them?
