Wow, this is super cool! The racing mechanics seem well fleshed out. I like how you can get boosts by doing drifts. The jumping feature is also really neat, both as part of the track and when using the power-up to do skips. I also appreciate the huge variety of tracks that are available, especially considering all the different graphics and music. The controls and rapidly turning view are tricky to use, but it's still a lot of fun. The one thing it's missing is someone else to race against. Not that I would expect that - there's plenty of content here already for a jam game!

Did you work in a team?
No
Was the resolution a challenge?
Some obstacles might be hard to anticipate with the low resolution. I tried to increase the range of the camera but I don't think it worked.
What did you learn?
This was the first time I tried making a serious racing game.

Hah, this game reminds me of Reckless Drivin, an old Mac shareware game!
Being able to race against ghosts is a nice touch!
I like the rotating camera, but I think some of the floor textures could perhaps be simplified a bit. When rotated, some of the textures produce a moiré pattern at this resolution. Levels that use mostly solid colors don’t have this issue (e.g. rainbow road). Or, perhaps you could keep the textures and always draw them “upright” regardless of the camera’s rotation? No idea if this would look good, just throwing ideas out there :)
Great job designing so many tracks as well! A very complete entry.
Good effort on what you've made, I like some of the little things like jumps and out of bounds you've created. The camera is a little bit disorientating as it's fixed to the player. Would've been cool to have some enemies to race but I can understand that may be hard to implement given the timeframe. Overall, good start for a future potential racer.
Congratulations on making this game ! I've played your game during a live that you can watch here :
The live is timestamped so you can go directly to your game.Thank you for being here during the live. I hope the feedback and live reactions will be useful. Keep it up !
This made me nostalgic for the early Micro Machines games so thanks for that, and I love the nods to other games! I was impressed by the jumps and loops in the tracks (I played every one).
Would have been nice to have AI cars to race against and a more interesting camera that lets the car move away from a central focus. It's difficult to do rotation well at a low resolution like this, I wonder what it could look like at 128x128 - but that's a different jam ;-)
I liked how you used jumping feature for building tracks. I totally see this as a good split screen competitive fun game!
And good thing that you added specific music for each track. Though sound design style is not my liking.
Great work!
nice graphic simple play but some stage that have holes I must drive slower.
I know people doesn't really like pixel rotations in games, but I'm here to say it doesn't bother me. Especially for such racing game. I had lots of fun racing. I actually love racing games so no real surprise here. Sounds was part of the fun. I love hearing that fanfare song when you beat your record.
My personal best on Rodent Stadium is 22.8
I enjoyed it. I have nothing new to add that hasn't already been said by other commenters and when I was playtesting for you. I do really like the tight turn mechanic though. also, unlike everyone else, i actually loved the background spinny graphics. only one I didn't like graphically was the final track
I didn't expect to see a racing game in this game jam but that was fun! I think the graphics could be improved, levels like Slimy Sewers were a bit hard on the eyes for me. And I didn't realize there were 7 more tracks (and longer tracks at that!) in the menu until I read the description again, maybe a scrolling menu or some indication that there is a second page would have been useful.
A little disorientating, but the idea is super fun, and I had a good time playing it :)
Never been a big fan of rotated sprites at low resolutions, normally ruins readability… when moving around things got a bit (a lot?) dizzying (f.e. sand in ant-hill). Other than that, the game plays well but does not bring in that much challenge. A good start, with some room for improvement!
+1 vote for some kind of "race against other people" feature. A little disorienting for me, but I liked it overall.
Rainbow Road not disappointing with the difficulty, barely managed a single lap on that track!
I really liked it! But the respawn after falling out the track is a bit buggy, like taking really long to return to the position. The tracks are also too tight to keep drifting on a curve. But otherwise the game is really fun as it is! It also looks and sounds very nice.
Oh man I'd love a full game of this, reminds me of some of those top down SNES era racers like Micromachines. The mechanics are fun, if a little fast for my boomer reflexes, and I appreciate all the different tracks. Nice touch on the respawn animation.
I'm surprised it came out so playable and looking so good given the res constraints, this is a cool entry. Nice job!
Great game! Icy pond is hard. Good music and sound effects.
Would never have thought to attempt a racing game in 64x64, so very surprised at just how well it works - this is fantastic! The kart handles really well, with a nice contrast between tight, controlled turns and speed boosts from drifting that added an additional layer to consider when planning racing lines.
Love how distinct each track feels - never felt like just a reskin, with the change in music and the different layouts each track had a distinct personality to it. My favourite was Criss-Cross Den, which was a joy to drift around, and of course Rainbow Road is suitably difficult lol
I did find the artifacts from rotating the map could get a bit tiring to look at, although it definitely added to the sense of speed!
