Art is so nice and I love the dungeon crawley atmosphere!  I think it would've helped me if the animations were a little clearer but also I'm bad haha. Dug the music and the sounds, and the art is sooo good-looking, well done! I'd appreciate if you would check out my entry as well!

Nice art, Eye of the Beholder and such vibes, well done.

Fyi: it doesn't work in Chrome for some reason. When you press "x" to start, nothing happens.

Developer

Thank you! When the mouse loses focus out of the game window (clicked or moved outside) for some reason this happens. Must be due to Love2D web export.

The art is astounding! I love it. Many have mentioned that better telegraphing would help. But it's still fun.

I love the visuals of this game! Like others have said, the block mechanic isn't super helpful because enemies don't telegraph their attacks soon enough before the blocking takes effect. Once I learned that you can back up it made the combat much easier. I love it and would love to see an expanded version of this!

Awesome little game, reminded me of Lands or Lore (even the intro!!). I really love the fact that you took the time to build a backstory with intro screens and extra graphics. Awesome graphics by the way, great moody music as well. Awesome job!

Absolutely gorgeous game. The gameplay concept was fun, but ultimately the shield felt useless, as stepping back was faster and had no cooldown.

Submitted(+1)

Loved it. Shield button felt unresponsive at times (event in fullscreen with WASD), but its still an excellent game.

Too hard for me, but not necessarily unfair--enemies do telegraph their attacks, I coundn't seem to ever get it to block at the right time. I really like the art and music, though. Nice job!

Developer(+2)

Thank you, best thing to do is run back a little to cancel their attack then it becomes fairly easy.

Oh, oops.. I didn't even think to run backwards. It's even there in the tutorial.. my bad. 😐

Great job on the pixel art and music! The intro/tutorial screens was a nice little touch, adds more depth to the story/lore. I found the dodging/blocking mechanic interesting, takes some skill to time it but definitely adds more of a challenge. Great job overall!

Thank you so much!

Looks fantastic, and I like the simplicity of it. Only complaint is the controls feel a little bit clunky -- I kept trying to raise my shield after an attack, but it wouldn't activate if I hit it too soon after the attack animation. Getting the timing right was difficult.

Developer(+1)

That's true, blocking and attacking are not immediate, and everything works by the count of the frames. Needs time to getting used to controls. I wanted to make it a bit more simpler later but the deadline was already passed :D

Wow ! That is a tough game ! I like the simple mechanics but I wish the character would respond faster to key commands. Graphics ans sound are top notch and really set the mood. You should definitely keep working on it !

Developer

Thank you! I hope to add some more to it after the jam ratings are over :0)

Great stuff. Strong art and sound and I love that the controls were so simple.  Monsters clearly telegraph their attacks and the hit sound is satisfying. A great mini dungeon crawler.

Developer

Thank you so much!

I love dungeon crawlers (clearly) and I was so glad you included the source to mess around with. The graphics are sharp and the music and sound fits greatly, although I'd like some option to turn the music down or off. I also had some trouble using the keyboard without the page scrolling, but maybe it was just me. I was very surprised that it is real time and not turn based and it was very thrilling! All around a great experience.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! Love2D web exports are a bit messy when played in iframe windows. Losing focus kills the controls completely.

I liked graphics and music. The game was far more difficult than what I usually like to play. I couldn't get through this, but it's not a problem. There is enough to play for another time. Very reminiscent of role-playing games I played when I was a kid. -oneak

Developer

Thank you Oneak,
Seems like I messed up the game play a bit and made it too difficult. I will update it once the ratings are over.

I loved the retro audio! Apparently my reaction times need some work though, I couldn't get past the second enemy XD

Beautiful pixel art and great idea. I wish the defend was a little faster to line up with the telegraphing of attacks from enemies.

Wow this game was punishingly difficult. really cool concept though.

There's something very captivating about this, the mix of graphics and gameplay in such a low res is very hard to resist for me. The presentation and polish is outstanding I just wish it was a bit easier at the beginning, i keep dying early on. Really impressed, well done to the team!!

Check mine out too if you can, thanks.

I really liked the sound and graphics. I'm planning to evolve my game into something on a larger scale and I think I may go with a graphics style similar to what you have here. It looks great!
