Beautiful relaxing and intriguing.
The art is just gorgeous in this, and even though i'm not much of a classical music guy, this piano only soundtrack is a perfect match to the visuals and atmosphere of the game and i really liked it ^^
Also cool that you went for the Journey, and in a sense alsoTanglewood route in having the player just thrown and immersed in the world with no explanation and everything to figure out on their own.
Not really an issue with the game itself but i've come across one tiny technical hiccup playing it, some times the interactable light wheel things didn't seem to react and there were a few (strated on the green background level) that i had to insist a bit to get working, so i'm not sure what happened there :/
Other than that this is super polished for a jam game, and has amazing atmosphere and i really enjoyed my time with it
Well done :)
Incredibly beautiful game!! The music is unreal in the most beautiful way possible! Absolutely gorgeous along with just wonderful graphics that really tell a story all its own. I thought the mechanics were cool and I did find that it took me a second to get used to things, but once I got it I was fully engrossed. Great work! and Beautiful storytelling that permeates the whole project!
just chill and beautiful, poetic.
reminds me of one of the greatest games i ever played: okami.
if you detail more the animations, this will got a high level indie game, i saw some issues with the animation syncing, maybe the running animation is too slow for the movement, kinda the same problem i have in my game.
don't let this project down, finish this! This is wonderful!
I just putted my headphones on and prepared to relax. I think this is the most poetic game of the Jam! Great job with the art, parallax, SFX and music! And also the camera: it really looked like an animation when you directed the camera! I couldn't stop until the end to follow that fox! Congrats!
The whole presentation—art, music, story—has a wonderful, dreamlike quality to it. The music is so so good. The ending sequence is beautiful. Love it!
The movement feels a bit at odds with the tone, but that didn't bother me as much as the rules being inconsistent for traversal. Sometimes the light rays need activation, sometimes no light is necessary, not all the light rays function the same (despite their similar appearance), so it became a bit of a guessing game at times.
That said, it's still a beautiful, serene game and I really enjoyed the experience. Great work!
Thank you very much for the feedback! I completely agree with you, there's quite a bit of inconsistency in the game play. I wasn't thinking about it too much when I'm making this game as I focused a lot more into the experience of the player, but now that it's done it's kinda bugging me haha. I'd definitely pay more attention to this aspect in the future.
Glad you enjoyed the experience!
Lovely game! The music and atmosphere worked very well together.
Thank you!
Very atmospheric and nice game. Music with art and game style pretty fits together. If there is something, maybe the movement could be smoother if it makes sense ;)
I really appreciate possibility to jump with arrows/ "W" :D
Thank you for the feedback! Completely agree there, I'd definitely try my best to make a smoother movement flow for atmospheric games like this in the future.
I'm impressed.
Probably one of the best, smarter, and beautiful usage of the light in Godot that I have ever seen. For this piece of art in a game jam, I need to say it's the best and emotional experience for me in this jam so far.
My compliments are all that folks are writing in the comments. A 5/5 game and probably the best experience I gonna have today.
Thank you!
Thank you very much, Keichi! I'm very very glad that my game managed to convey the artistic experience to you. That has always been my goal from the start of learning Godot, and your review gives me a huge confidence boost at what I'm doing, so thank you!
This game has one of the best visuals in the whole jam. Great job :)
Thank you! That means a lot to me!
I agree with GeXCaliber, the art style is amazing, keep up the good work.
Thank you very much, Riplea!
This game is an artistic masterpiece. Please keep on developing it!
Thank you!! That means a lot to me. Conveying art through a video game medium has always been my goal since I started learning Godot a month ago. I'll consider continuing this project later. But even if I don't, the games I will make in the future would be similar to this game- in an artistic way.
The game is extremely beautiful, both in artstyle and music!
Very relaxing game.
Thank you very much!
This wasn't really doing it for me, sorry. The Backgrounds and music are fantastic but the rest was not really that great. You were going for a very emotional / easy flowing game , which I respect. But the main problem I had was the movement. In a game like this it should flow really nicely. But (while the walk cycle is well made) the animation lacks fluidity. The big jumps you can do in the godrays are very janky and took me out of the experience every time.
But even tho I don't think it was that successful, most people seem to like it a lot and you should not feel bad just because of my review.
Hey there, thank you very much for the feedback! This is my very first game and jam ever, and reviews like yours are extremely valuable for my growth as a new game developer. I haven't learned much about how to make a juicy flow feels when I first started this game. But now that I know a thing or two from developing this game, I will surely explore that aspect of development more on my next project!
Thanks again for the valuable feedback!
Glad I could help. And good luck for your future projects.
I agree with Michael, the movement was the only downside of the game, otherwise it was fantastic. There are many small things you could change to make it flow better.
One idea I have that I would add is to change the controls when you picked up the energy orbs. You could change the character to be really floaty if that makes sense. It would be a nice indication to the player that now you can fly up on the light rays.
The visuals and the music are awesome though. Maybe adding a little story that you tell visually could help. Like who is the wolf, what is the goal. You dont have to be explicit, some references would fit the artistic style of the game.
Hey Norodix, that was some fantastic idea! That would really increase the depth and juice to the game play. I'll consider adding that mechanic if I continue this project later, thanks a lot!
As for the story, I originally planned to have 5 characters in total. The player just happened to control the fox (not wolf :D), but all 5 of this animals are moon spirit that are trying to ascend to the moon. Sadly, there wasn't enough time to make the worlds and cut scenes for all those 4 fox companions, so I just cut them out. They would really add a lot to the story though as I've arranged them to have their own personality and story. Anyway, thank you very much for taking your time to write the feedback. They will be very helpful for my next project!
Here's the character sketch by the way:
From left to right: moon fox, moon deer, moon medium dog, moon small dog, moon lion :D
Well its obiously a fox. You can tell by the tail and the proportions. the moon theme just made me think of a wolf at first. :D
Beautiful atmosphere, and I love the moon fox sprite. Great music as well, it sounded very Ghibli-esque :)
I had a bit of a problem to activate the three orbs in the 'green zone' to activate the bridge. I had to restart the game to get it to work.
Other than that awesome game!
Thank you very much! I see. Is the problem about not landing and getting stuck after jumping to a wall/floor? I've also discovered that bug during the process of making the game and haven't found a way to fix it yet. I'll be sure to fix it later. Thanks again!
The problem was that I couldn't activate the orbs. Not sure what was going on, but none of the three orbs were working. I could still run around and use the spacebar etc. but no effect.
Ah, okay then. I'll look into it again in the future. Thanks for the info!
So beautiful and relaxing.
Thank you!
Atmosphere Artstyle Sounds 10/10 amazing work
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you very much
I was impressed by the beauty
Too great
Thank you very much!
It was just so beautiful. Amazing soundtrack.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the music!
Really beautiful atmosphere you've created.
Thank you!
moon fox. Moon Fox. MOON. FOX.
(i would like to hug the moon fox please)
This is stunningly beautiful. Your art is fantastic. It's rare to see games with playable four-legged creatures, and the animation cycle for moon fox is wonderful!
It has contemplative but overall relaxing puzzles with sweet, vaguely melancholy vibes. the combination of the music and art supports the concept well. I could play this for hours if there was more content.
there was one point where i think a cutscene trigger failed and i did had to reload the game, but overall it was one of my favorites of the jam so far.
Love. that. fox!
Thank you very much! Glad that my vision of this game got into some people! I was worried about there not being enough gameplay mechanics and that people might get bored and call this game pretentious. But I'm glad you liked it! You helped me justify the long hours I put into making this game. Thanks for that!
