love love love love loveeeeeeeeeeeee thissssss! so much fun. it was like an action version of a Heroes of Might and Magic III necromancer run. I'd love to see this expanded if you are into it. Perhaps more raised dead types, i bet you already have tons of ideas though. this is very high up there amongst what i've played in terms of having pure fun playing it. the sprites are great too, love those funky, sassy lil skeletons, and while i realize it was likely a time saving measure, having the boss be just, wizard boi, but bigger, was hilarious to me. Fantastic!!!

Glad you liked the game so much :D

This is my second jam (I'm not a veteran yet) and had to work full time during the jam. I wasn't sure how the game would be recieved but in the end everything turned out great :)

This is my first and I also had to work a full time job as well. On last nights stream Jade mentioned the intention of the scheduling being anti-crunch, which I appreciate. I'm not sure I ever would have tried to enter if it had been the typical 48 time period that's more common. I got a couple hours in after my work days and then did big pushes on the weekends. It's harder when you need a day job. Congrats to you for managing to get something done, and having it be such a good experience as well!

This feels like a great start for a full game. The mechanics that you introduced are pretty interesting, but maybe too simple, and the game a bit easy, but understandable as it is a jam. The story is also interesting and the pixelart was great. I can see you expanding on this. Great job!

Developer

Thank you! I had to scope down to make it on time, finished the game on the last day.

Wow! What a great game! I'm really impressed with how cohesively you delivered the story.  I actually want to know what's up with this Lich?  why is he so angry?  Who was he before he was the king of the undead?

As for the gameplay, it was lots of fun, maybe a bit easy but I never got bored so I can't complain.  If you were gonna expand on the concept, i think it'd be awesome if you were able to command the skeletons so it'd start as a shoot-em-up and evolve into an RTS as your army got larger.  Another concept that would fit well with that is if the skeletons inherited weapons/attack style of the enemy they were reanimated from.  So you could focus on archers if your army needed more archers.  It'd also be interesting if you could consume your own skeletons to charge some mega lich attack.  Seems like a very lich thing to do :)

Developer

Cool ideas, in my initial scope I had actually planned the zombified versions of the enemies. Having done only the zombified warrior, I realised it would take lots of time to work on the pixel art (which I lacked). I also had a lot of problems with the AI while I was coding it so decided to simplify it.

As for why the Lich is angry, he is angry because a group of buffoons woke him up early in the morning. He is just cranky :D Btw It was written in the last sentence at the epilogue screen as a joke but nobody mentioned it so far :P

This is a fun game, reanimating the skeletons in the graveyard was very fun. I had some problems with the game though due to my browser(opera) having mouse gestures with right click, but after disabling those it worked fine.

If i had to say i wish the skeletons were a bit smarter at attacking enemies, as they are just good bone shields against ranged opponents. but was still very fun.

Developer(+1)

last gogodot jam it was linux and its short cuts, this time it's opera and its short cuts :D I'll learn how other operating systems and browsers work one jam at a time :D

Also, I agree. I had a hard time with the state machine, I definetely need to work on the logic of that.

Oh, man. This got to be one of the games I enjoyed the most of all the games I played in this jam. Raising an army of the dead that follows you and help you fight made me feel so badass. I absolutely love the last battle- it just felt so satisfying. The art and the music compliments the style really well. Impressive!

Developer

Thank you so much! Considering your game was looking so well, I'm happy that you liked it :)

Consistent gameplay and nice enemy IA!

The audio and plot combine too much with the game and the graphics are awesome!

Great job!

Developer(+1)

I had plenty of problems with my AI and state machines and actually dumbed them a little to make them work :D I used several "variant" skeletons to use in different parts of the game. :)

Glad you liked it, Thank you!

Aesthetics were great, I really love the flavor of the fire turning when you walked past it. Didn't feel like any danger at any point, but I think that was by design :) Cool concept, was fun to play!

Developer

You are immortal, industructible and inevitable :D They should fear you, not the other way round >:)

I really enjoyed the music, it added a lot of atmosphere to the game.

Developer

I learned about the artist from one of the streams (I think it was the goodgis one). Has a ton of royalty free options to pick.

Really creative! Great work

Thank you so much :)

Great spooky music! Nice sound effects! I like the minion system and the aiming system! I have to confess that I felt sorry for the mice at the beginning. 🙂 Nice game!💙

Glad you enjoyed the game. Thank you for playing!

Interesting take on energy source part of the jam, it reminds me lot of Undead Horde game.

It's really a shame it ended so quickly as I was still eager to play!

Developer(+1)

I wanted to keep short, but maybe it was a bit too short :( Thank you for playing.

Feels really good to have an army of undead under my commands!

But what happened to the rats I resurrected in tutorial? I want my pet rats back. >:(

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Hmm, fair point. If I do an updated version I'm sure to add the pet rats as well. Every villain needs a pet to pet(?) while they sit on their evil throne. (float?) or rub their heads? or carry in their skull?

So many questions... X_X

This was so great, i loved it start to finish, the ressurrection mechanic is so damn satisfying. congrats ^^

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I wanted to give it the juice so it fits the theme of the jam really well :)

Awesome concept. I like the powerful feeling after resurrecting dozens of skeletons into my army. To my taste the movement was a bit slow and the boss could have used a health bar. The game has great sound design and atmosphere.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Have you tried using "E" button? It was in the tutorial part and should give you x2 the speed  for 3 seconds for just a quarter of your energy bar.

And nice idea on the health bar for the boss, I wonder why I never thought of that before?

Submitted

Oh, somehow I missed that speed boost in the tutorial stage. Thanks for the tip.

Awesome! I know pathfinding can be quite a nightmare to program, but the game does it quite nicely. My only complaint is that it is hard to know if you are doing well or not (the game is easy, but I have no way to tell if it is because I played it well or if it is intended to be easy). The theme is nice and fitting (but it could have some sort of urgency, like depleting energy or something like that) and it is kinda satisfying to march towards the village with your army of the dead. Nicely done!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

I was more focused on the experience than the challenge so the game is quite easy. Thanks for the review! :)

Cute army of the dead, nice concept :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you!

Really cool! I loved the moments I could reanimate lots of skeletons, it had a really nice punch to it. Only thing I would say is the energy meter could be a bit more consequential, mine barely emptied.

Developer

I had added a hidden mechanic where if you have too many skeletons, your energy meter is increased by summoning new skeletons.  Also every death feeds you back for %20 of your bar, making moments where you kill many enemies fast looks like your bar is always full.

Submitted

Nice concept here! :) Good job creating the atmosphere. Please add more abilities!

Developer

I had a few more I had to cut due to time/scope constraints. Maybe I will do a better version later on :)

Like they said in an old flash parody "In today's episode skeletor chased after too much power, don't you chase after to much power or i'll come after you TOO !" XD

Okay so dumb jokes aside this is really good and i really like the spritework as well, plus the music really sells the atmosphere and this put me in a sorta vibe of the first blood omen game in the sense that, you may be the protagonist but you're not the good guy.

Even though gameplay wise it's not related at all, your game also brought back fond memories of playing Heroes of might and magic 2 when you have a necromancer character and each battle earns you the bonus oh having the enemies revived as skeletons joining your army :p

And i also like the fact that you didn't seem to put a cap on how many skeletons you can have, and this is awesome as you really feel like you're having an army more than just a group of summons.

Really did not have any particular issues with this one, so i don't know what i could say more.

Congrats you did a good job :)

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

I was an avid fan of HoMM3 so really get what you mean by skeletons joining your army :)

thank you for your kind words :)

Submitted

Great Game. It has nice details like the light going on as you pass, the green fire you instantly recognize as a life source. The animation of the skelies walkiing are very good. You can reanimate everything you kill. Well done!

Developer

Thank you! I was really proud of the torches and camp fires transforming as we corrupt the energy simply by passing. It was easy and effective :D
