How does your game meet GBJam's theme?
Mending Misfortune Manor utilizes "unlucky" and "lucky" motifs to fulfill the theme of the secondary theme. The main character Lucky, (on the nose naming ) is a rabbit, whose feet usually symbolize luck. He himself is also lucky, somehow managing to fix broken items by utilizing objects clearly not meant to fix it. But, it somehow works.

The second character, Ms. Fortune, is a black cat and is a foil to Lucky, being a symbol of bad luck. All of items in her manor keep breaking as a result of a cursed mirror - which is also broken and a motif of "unlucky".

At the end of the game, Lucky fixes all of the objects for Ms. Fortune and heads home. However, something happens to him that certainly isn't so ... lucky.

Quite a simple mechanic but nicely executed. It was a little difficult to make out what a couple of the objects were, but I managed to fix everything regardless. I loved the talking noise, and the ending was very good. Nice work!

Lovely little game. The art music and concept came together quite nicely! I especially appreciated the visual style y'all went with for your game! One minor nitpick to share is that when I closed my TODO list, sometimes it'd pop right back up at me making it feel like I was stuck on that view until I gave it a few more tries. Thanks for making and sharing your game!

I wish it was longer — a great game, everything fits perfectly! I especially liked that you managed without an inventory system. Really awesome game!

That was a fun little game, clean gameplay, nice art and music … well done :)

My first time playing the game (in Safari) I had the page crash from using too much memory, but I had no issues on the second attempt. I’m not sure what happened there, and I do have a LOT of tabs open. I just wanted to mention it in case it comes up again for someone.

I love everything about this game! Easy to grok immediately, full marks for style, cute dialogue, lovely art and music. I’m a sucker for old school SCUMM game puzzles, too. Extra points to whoever snuck in the Strong Bad line. <3

I agree with all the critical feedback from the other comments, so I won't repeat them. But overall, this is an ADORABLE game!! It's very clean, clever, and enjoyable. I normally don't play games like this so the fact that I finished this one should say a lot! Of all the GBJAM13 games I've played so far, this one fit the "unluckiness" theme the best. Great job!

awesome game and use of palette! i especially love the tile set! I feel like my only complaint is that I wish I could have like a run or dash button when going around fixing things. I would say i would have wanted the pick up able items to be named when you are around them or are holding them. but I can see that the context clues and dialog from Lucky already did a great job in that regard.

Developer

we have gotten that same feedback from others. item names were a thing we planned to add, but just ran out of time. thanks for playing and the kind words!

Lucky just    tore part of a corpse   out of its grave   💀💀💀   Lucky why

That was charming, groovy, and competently implemented. Great work!

we warned you his methods were a bit… unconventional ! lol!!

Beautiful presentation, lovely character design.
I wish I had that skill as a handyman, my house could use a repair or two...

The game is easy to follow despite sometimes not knowing what item that I’m lifting (is it a cake? a tangled rope thing?)

But overall, the game has its moments (I like the part where the Ouija board actually fixes the mirror), charming art style & soundtracks, and the palette makes the whole experience dreamy :D

Developer(+1)

thank you!!! Haha I was literally pixeling and the cheese wheel and kept saying “how DO I pixel a cheese wheel?” “Does this even look like a cheese wheel?” “CHEESE WHEEL ??”

Anyway, glad you liked it :) thank you

It's hard to write characters, but you did an excellent job. Nice work getting a whole manor done in a week!

This game is really charming! Love the presentation and the gameplay is intuitive. Got a little lost on the items by the end but, finished the game without issues! Great work!

Developer(+1)

thank you so much! :D I’m really glad you think the gameplay is intuitive that’s a big relief!

Amazing presentation, wow! Obviously nailed it on the art and music, great opening, straightforward gameplay.  At the end it became a bit of a pixel hunt trying to find the last hidden object I had missed.  Maybe something subtle like shaking the entities with hidden objects every few seconds would be nice so we don't have to pixel hunt.  Also, I had no clue what some of the objects were, and only solved via trial and error. Other than that, no complaints, amazing work to everyone!

Great suggestions! Thank you so much for the kind words! glad you liked it :)

Mmm Gum! Hahah A simple, yet fun game with some great dialogue, art and music. Completed in less than 10 mins, but a satisfyingly complete project (we'll ignore that one door lol)

Developer(+2)

it’s not part of the demo!! Hahaha. :)

Thank you so much!
