^Really nice game with clever mechanics. Great fun playing it.

Developer

Thank you, glad you liked it!

This was fantastic! ... and then I got to level 7 ... I almost had all the black squares done and then 1 little tap sent the cube flying across blue squares. If the cube could move from pressed to unpressed squares smoothly it would be less of an issue.
Other than the difficulty moving the cube precisely, the puzzles were great. I love the look of the game, especially Pixel's floppy arms and the ink trails.

Developer

Oh no, I made public service announcement not to go to level 7-8-9 haha for this reason. It is my first game, I did not think people play it for an hour to get to the hard levels. I have messed up with level 7 myself because the floppy arms hit the cube!

Thanks for enjoying Pixel, I am making it into a full game now. No painful cube though.

Great aesthetic for this, the robot you modelling looks great and fits the overall visual style of the game really well. Great job!

Developer

Thanks, I hope the visuals fit haha. I made all the 3D models in the game during the jam.

Submitted(+1)

Such a cute robot and the over all style is so nice. Good job!

Developer

Thank you, I made all the models myself!

Submitted(+1)

I really liked the idea and the concept of being a robot that prints, the aesthetics were really good and the puzzles to colorate everything on witht the right colors were good! great job!

Developer

Painting on walls and floors is fun haha, thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

The art is very rich for a jam game, considering you made it all from scratch is truly incredible. Nicely done!

Developer

Thank you! I just put a time limit on myself when I was building things. Usually I spend too much time in Blender and rework things a few times. Not for a jam! I made Pixel in 30 min and I had to move on haha!

Submitted(+1)

Very cute,  charming, and fun. Love the movement and the main mechanic. I really enjoyed it.
Btw, great idea for the theme!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing. Really felt like making a printer game haha, was a random idea and I latched onto it. Happy that I did!

Submitted(+1)

well made game to be honest, you fit the theme super perfectly and the game play was really cool, getting the right colors can be sometimes frustrating xD , but it was really a great experince , great job!

Developer(+1)

A healthy amount of frustrating is good for a puzzle game. I hope you don't mean level 7, that is uh... not for enjoyment of life as we know it.

Thanks for taking the time to play and review the game!

I think I'm rating number 50 - quite a privilege :) The general thinking is that downloadable games dont get very many ratings but you're is just racking them up and I think that in itself is a testament to just how good this little project of yours is. The mechanic itself is quite beautifully simplistic and allows you some great extensibility for levels, which is very creative and great for creating loads of iterative challenge and fun. The aesthetics are obviously awesome - its just a pretty environment with perfectly balanced colors and of course it nails the theme. I liked the control over the character - took me a minute to get used to movement with the camera movement as well but after that it felt responsive and very natural. I've played several games this jam that are 3D and really struggle to get the movement down, but you managed it here really well. As you know from playing my games, I like puzzle games too, and as such I can definitely appreciate the thinking that's required to solve each level as it progresses to something slightly more difficult than the last - I'm 100% aligned to that 'methodology' for level creation on puzzle games. I dont say this lightly - this was one of my favourite games. Maybe favourite. Definitely top 2 or 3 for sure. Really great work and well done.

Developer(+1)

It is cool to get a review from someone who also makes puzzles, as we have similar game design and development struggles. Therefore I am really glad you enjoyed the game and the mechanics of Pixel. Movement was increased a lot due to playtesting and wanting to zoom around, haha. Speed and fun over slow precision seems like what everyone likes about the game.  I spend a lot of time uh.. "playtesting" the driving mechanics of the game myself.

Yeah, my #50! I really appreciate all the reviews. As a first game and jam, I was not expecting people to give me so much of their time and play my game.  I am really pleased with the engagement and the comments I have received, thus giving me a clear direction on improvement and further development of the game.

Top 2 or 3 is already great honour coming from a quality puzzle dev, so thank you for taking the time to enjoy my game!

Submitted(+1)

Great puzzle game, especially loved the visuals and the player character, so adorable!! I also liked the fact that you did not need to explain what exactly needed to be done, and that it was quite intuitive. Very well thought out design and well implemented, great job :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you for appreciating the tutorial level! It definitely helped to know where to go and what to do. I sometimes get lost in other games, so I wanted to make sure it's clear.

Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

A nice polished game! I didn't know what I was supposed to print so I just moved around! I entered the tent and couldn't get out :0

It's impressive that you made all the assets yourself! Great work!

Developer

Not sure how you got stuck, you can just exit the dark tent. Or press Ecs to enter pause menu and restart the level. Also level 1 is step by step tutorial with huge sparkles telling you where to go.

Thanks for trying!

My fellow dev, remember that evil is a conscious decision, whether we realize it or not. What you have here is definitely evil. It's also pretty cute though! And fun. I managed to make it to level 9 by micro-tapping like I was in Dodonpachi but I had to pull the plug if I wanted to be able to try any other games in the next week. Good job!

Developer

I am so sorry >_< This is my first game, I thought people try out a level or two and move on?! I made 7-9 very difficult because I thought some hardcore gamers will say levels 1-3 are too easy and I didn't think people would play that far in because it's around an hour to get there.

You're an absolute legend for completing 7 and 8, those are a huge pain. I wish I could give achievements for making it that far. Of course, I will change them for the final version of the game. Maybe level 30 or so is allowed to be that annoying.

Submitted(+1)

Really impressive presentation. A fun core concept for a game. And knocking things around with physics was very fun! ... until I had to be careful with a paint cube.

Level 4, which introduces the cube, was definitely more difficult than 5 or 6. And then 7 needed far more finesse than the game allows for. Though I understood perfectly well how to make the heart, threading the needle between the blue and black sections was too difficult for me to manage after several attempts. One wrong move, one little nudge, and a blue square gets overwritten. Plus, unlike the other puzzles, resetting with soap renders the stage incomplete-able since there's no source of blue anywhere. (I know other people have commented on level 7 as well so sorry to be echoing things you're already aware of! I try my hardest to complete every jam game so that I can see all the content they have to offer, so I'm sorry I wasn't able to experience the final two stages.)

There are so many nice little touches, like the employee of the month pictures, or the little turn signals which react to player input. And the customer mouse cursor.

One thing which is a little odd was that I had to click on things in the UI twice. Once to select and then a second time to activate it. Generally I'd expect one click to do the trick. Just an observation, not an issue.

Developer(+1)

Wow, thank you for the thorough review and intense playtesting of the game! The paint cube is a pain. This is my first game and my first jam so I was not expecting people to want to complete the full game at all. So I made levels 1-3 cozy and 7-9 an absolute pain because I thought it would be too easy. I thought it would cover both bases of cozy gamers and hardcore enthusiasts. I will rework the cube and make the game more forgiving, rather than nearly impossible, very fair point!

I am glad you like the worldbuilding and design. Employee and lights were not necessary but I really really wanted to add my flair to it for fun. it was important for me to have that in the game.

Aah, you caught my UI bug. Yeah, it takes two clicks because the game somewhat throws you out into the UI so you have to click back in. I tried fixing it but I ended up locking out the player from clicking buttons, so I left it to be fixed later. If it is not game breaking, I had to move onto other features or I wouldn't have a lot of bits done. I specifically put in extra time in qualify of life like sound and volume settings and a working game save structure. Not sure noticeable but cool to work on it.

Thanks again for playing!

Adorable game! First, I was pleasantly surprised by how cute everything looks - beautiful pastel colors and great 3D models! Then I started playing, and it's so fun! The painting feels incredibly satisfying, and all the printer items are cool (I loved the bathtub with ducklings!). When the cube appears, the game gets a bit tricky for me - but still remains very entertaining!

Developer(+1)

I am thinking to drop the cube altogether for those who just want chill happy color game to be honest. Seems so much more relaxed like that. Thank you for giving it a go!

Just me, ducks and cyan haha.

Now I know what's going on in my printer :)

Thanks for this great game.

Excellent work.

Developer

Absolute tomfoolery in wasting your printer ink that's for sure haha.

Glad you liked it! Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

Good submission! Feels really clean in terms of art (love the pastely color palette) and gameplay!

Developer(+1)

I do love the low poly style - easy on the eyes and can focus more the game mechanics for sure. Thank you for taking the time to play!

It's a great job and example of optimized UE project. Really nice puzzle game. Thank you for sharing.

Developer

I optimised all the code and meshes, not so sure about the lighting haha. Unreal Engine has its own ideas about how lights work, but pretty clean for a first game.

Thank you for taking the time to play it!

Submitted(+1)

This is awesome for the first game.

Developer

yay ~

Submitted(+1)

What a cool puzzle game! I love the details on the character like the turn indicator lights. Great work and nice job making all the assets!

Developer(+1)

I love it when people notice the little details. I do it all the time when I play games, the small things that add flair are just the cherry on top every time. Glad you like it :)

I really like Blender and have committed more and more time to it lately. I have done only 3 sculpts but I am getting better!

Submitted(+1)

One of the most impressive games so far.  Love this idea, simple but so addictive and fun.  The feel of the graphics is very Portal 2, especially with cubes and paint.
I think this could be a game that, with further development, could be released, it is that good a concept imo.

Developer(+1)

Portal 2 is exactly the feeling I was going for! A little bit of puzzle, a little bit of moody NPCs. Some escape from the printer planned in the future too! Nice on picking that up, I definitely want to expand more on it after the jam. Really happy you see it as a releasable item.

I already played your game! I think I wasn't allowed to vote before, going back to it now, ops!

Submitted(+1)

It's a very fun game, easy to play. The music is a bit soft, but overall it's great.

Developer

Nice, I didn't want to blast people's ears but you can find the music and master volume in the settings in main menu or pause menu (Esc). I think it starts off at 25% so it is definitely on the quiet side.

At least your ears are safe with me!
