wow, this was an amazing game, I love all the mechanics!! I just wish there was more

Developer

Thank you for your compliments and for finishing the game. Don't worry, you're not the only one who wishes there was more to our game. We'll do our best to add more to it in the coming year.

Marvelous game! I would also play a longer version :)

Developer

Thank you so much. We'll keep you posted when/if we update it.

Pretty impressive! The game is easier than most games in this jam, but it is perhaps not aimed at hordcore gamers. With some lighting and sound effects this could be a seriously scary game (and horror games tend to be popular).

Developer

Thanks for playing, and I'm glad you found it impressive. Yes, there is definitely room for improvement with the sounds and lighting, something we will look into when/if we have some time.

Very cool almost hand drawn art style with very fluid looking animations. Overall a beautiful looking game. This game reminds me so much of a of 90's games, I cannot recall the name, where you control a human trying to escape like an alien invasion and is all about timing and platforming. Anyways, nice work :D

Developer

Haha yes it seems to be reminding many people of 90's games :D

Also the art style is hand drawn, thanks for noticing! I illustrated all the sprites and backgrounds on my ipad in an app called procreate - time consuming but fun!!

Amazing work! I love the artwork and the animations and the gameplay mechanics!

I wish there were more stages!

Developer

Thanks so much for the lovely comment! We had big ideas for a longer game but unfortunately time got away from us- Will hopefully expand it post jam :D

Great implementation!

I understand this is a jam, but it's a bit weird to end the game after the tutorial. But overall, it was very fun to play :)

Developer

Fair point, yeah we had a lot more ideas but sadly not enough time to implement them. Glad you liked what you played though 👍

Well made! Nice use of bugs in the game!

Developer

Thank you so much!!

super cute game! it was easy but not in a bad way, because the art was very pleasing on the eye <3 there was a clear vision and it was created very well!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for the compliments and I'm happy you were able to finish it. It's always difficult to tell if a game will be too easy or too difficult for others, but we'll take your feedback onboard for any future updates we make.

I loved this game!

You’ve done such a beautiful job!

The scenery is beautiful, you’ve implemented various enemies and game mechanics, the tutorial is simple and clear.

Congratulations!

Developer

Thank you so much for your kind review. I'm glad all our hard work hasn't gone noticed 💪

Best game I've seen so far.  Not pushy about the gameplay in terms of difficulty, nice leeway on ledge climb, nice seriously well done, short entry.

Developer

Aww thank you, that's such high praise 🤩🤩🤩

We're glad the game resonated with you so much.

Love the "little person" interpretation <3

Developer

Ha, thanks 👍

Love this game!! Amazing art style and colour palette. Also really liked how creative you got with the platforming with various bug types. Great work!!

Developer

Thank you for your nice comment, yeah a lot of artwork went into this and we're glad people enjoy it because of that.

I'm not just a little scared but quite very scared. I appreciate how the little bugs appear in the background to add more tension to the game, the details are effective. The character movement is just slow enough to make me feel quite powerless. Love the art style and animation a lot.

Developer

Nice, well at least you weren't too scared to play the game 🙂

Thanks for appreciating the character movement and the art style, we're glad it all came together nicely.

Definitely an interesting take on the platformer genre and I had fun avoiding insects and climbing on mushrooms! I liked that the different mechanics such as hiding, moving objects, jumping, and climbing were spread out through the game and the variations on how to approach situations. Also, props to the team for animating the movements so fluidly, I've got a lot of respect for that.

However, I would have liked for the collision detection for climbing to be a little more lenient, as I'd be a few pixels from the edge of a mushroom, jump, and still miss.

I also liked that there was a pixel mode, but it felt a little like it was put under a water filter? It got distracting for me.  Though I do understand this is made for a game jam, meaning that there is never enough time to do what you want, so I'm completely fine with the game. Great job and congrats!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your detailed feedback, yeah the animation is definitely one of the strong points of the game.

Fair criticism on the collision leniency, it's something we'll look into when we improve the game. The pixel mode is just a shader overlay on the whole game and was super easy to implement, we'll probably take it out or just hide it in the options menu going forward.

Was an interesting game. Played it to the end and it was fun seeing these different platformer mechanics put together. I also wish the game was a bit longer but I honestly get not having the time to do so because it's a game jam. One complaint I have about the game though is that the colliders are not exactly clearly defined so at times I wasn't too sure where I should jump or whatever. Other than though, loved it. Good job!

Developer

Yeah we totally ran short on time, it was a busy month! Will polish the colliders issue and lengthen the game post jam, it's been so helpful hearing everyones comments and constructive feedback on what to improve... Thanks so much for your comment:)

This reminded me of the opening levels of Flashback (16 bit era game in the Prince of Persia vein). It’s truly wonderfully put together; I wish it was a longer game with more puzzles because I could loose an hour or two to a game like this.

One of the top few games of the jam that I’ve played so far.

Developer

Hey thanks so much for your lovely review:)

Haha, we have had many Prince of Persia remarks - I did the designs and have never actually played it so think I need to check out Prince of Persia now to see what the chat is about! We also plan on lengthening post Jam so watch this space for a longer version :)

Loved the art style. Super colorful and I loved the character's movement and animation. I also really enjoyed how every obstacle is unique. Every puzzle gets the limelight for a little while. Nice cheeky pixel mode too! Jumping felt a little awkward, but that's a minor criticism, you two really did make a wonderful game. Nicely done.

Developer(+1)

Aww thanks for your detailed feedback, it's always nice to hear from people who enjoyed our game. You're not the first to mention the jump, We'd love to get more specific feedback to make the game better if you're okay with that.

Submitted

Of course, I am happy to provide more feedback. I'll try to be constructively nitpicky to give you as much information as possible that you can take or leave for your next platforming endeavors.

  • The jump height is pretty short. This is not necessarily a flaw, but it's a deviation from the traditional jumping in most platformers. You'd have to readjust a lot of the game around this if you were to change it though, so perhaps the jump height is fine in this case.
  • It seems like there's two discrete types of jumping. When you are completely still and when you are moving horizontally. And these seem to always follow the same trajectories. This is a pretty old-school jumping behavior that I wouldn't expect in any modern platforming. I think the only other game I've played that has this kind of jumping is the Donkey Kong arcade game from the 1980s. This is probably what felt the most awkward to me.
  • If you are running up against obstacles (like the rocks at the beginning of the game) and then you jump, you will not move past them even though the jumping animation implies that you should be moving horizontally.
  • Unlike the horizontally moving jump, the vertical jump when you are completely still has drastically longer animation delay before you leave the ground. Admittedly I am not entirely sure how I would make this better myself without having to mess about with the animations a lot, and I really like the animations! It also seems like the vertical jump is mostly there to transition smoothly into the climbing animation. (Which does work well, btw!) So tweaking this has more implications elsewhere.

Again, I hope it doesn't sound like I'm trying to tear the game apart with all the nitpicking, I think its a great game already. But hopefully this more detailed feedback is what you were looking for. Cheers!

Developer

Thanks for taking the time to write such detailed feedback, this is really helpful 🙌

I really liked the game, especially the art style and animation! It took a few tries to get past the wasp, but I finally got it!

Developer(+1)

Hey thanks so much... We really like your comment! Glad you enjoyed the game :)

Omg this was amazing!!!!!!! I loved it so much! I gotta know - the sound effect when you push blocks, is that the sound effect from Tomb Raider 1 when you push blocks??? hahaha, it sounds so familiar! Great job and love that its by a husband wife duo!!

Developer

Hey, thanks for the comment, so glad you loved our game! Haha yes my husband has slowly pulled me into the world of game design and I'm loving it... Such fun projects to work on together:)

The push is from youtube- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9j_UrRCtoA It could be the same one as Tomb Rader 1, who knows!!
