Nice relaxing atmosphere.
Would love some challenge though, perhaps a scary monster trying to hunt you down? Just a recommendation ;) Great job overall!
Thank you for the feedback! I agree, due to time constraints this game ended up more like a "tech demo" than a true game with more variety and challenge. I did think about adding some creepy elements but because the scope of the game was cut dramatically near the end, I decided it was best left as a peaceful experience. Thanks for trying out the game!
I thought it was good! Very well polished.
Thank you!
Simple. Slow. Relaxing. Love the sound design and the graphics!
Thank you for the kind words and for trying out my game. :)
The game looks GREAT! And I love the crunchiness of the walking sounds hehe. I'd love a more refined way of catching the fireflies as I felt I struggled a little bit. Also I'm not sure it felt "fun" to sometimes just end up in the dark walking into things. Maybe having the fireflies appear in certain patterns and you base the collection of getting from A to B to C in a sort of time limit before the flies escape from your lantern? It gives a bit more of a pressure to a very calming experience haha, maybe not what you want but thought I would share my thoughts!
Nice work!
Thank you for writing down your thoughts. I do agree that catching fireflies can be a bit tricky; you're not the only one calling that out. Your idea of a time limit on caught fireflies is interesting. For this submission I want to keep it very calm, but when I initially envisioned this game at the beginning of the jam, I imagined it with more action and puzzles. (But, you know... time constraints...) In a version of this game with more puzzles and features I can imagine one with this time sensitive component that you suggested. Maybe someday! Thanks for trying out my game. Cheers!
Really loved this one. Great audio design.
It reminds me of the game "The Witness"
Good job
This is personally really high praise for me. The Witness is one of my favorite games of all time, so perhaps I subconsciously channeled some of that game in my design. Thank you for the kind words.
A nice experience if a little sedate as there didn’t seem to be any form of threat or challenge for the player other than their own patience for the collect quest.
Thanks! I consider this more of an exploration/puzzle game. Definitely more on the peaceful/calm side of the wide spectrum of video games. But the game could improve with additional puzzle challenges and such, you're right that it's a pretty tame experience.
Art and music are beautiful. I really love the atmosphere. Game feels really smooth and polished. I did find it a little difficult to collect the fireflies, but that might just be me. Nice job!
Thank you for trying out the game and for the feedback! Yes, I agree with you that the firefly catching could be better. Internally, the game checks for fireflies in front of you in a cone-shaped area, and I think as they get closer to the lantern (the tip of the cone), that area is smaller and so they can drift out of it, which isn't the smoothest experience. You end up having to take a few steps back and reorienting yourself towards the firefly again. Time constraints deprioritized tweaking this though, I was running up against the jam deadline!
Satisfying feeling of capturing the fireflies makes this game amazing for me.
I really like the graphics and ambient sound effects.
Did you create the graphics by yourself? If so, would you be able to link me a guide or a tutorial to learn how to do similar stuff?
I believe the code behind limiting the fireflies movement to the lanterns and the suction behavior is really decent as well.
Edit: not sure if this is supposed to be just a survival game but adding a few scares here and there would make this game more fun in my opinion.
Thanks for trying out my game! Yes, I did create the graphics myself. This was the first time I tried my hand at 3D modeling, so I went for a low-poly look to keep it simple. I looked at some of general tutorials for Blender, and after getting a few under my belt to understand Blender and the interface, I moved to just videos on how to make low-poly objects like trees, rock walls, and other low-poly environments. I learn best by doing, so after just following these videos to make these objects, I was able to apply what I learned to make things like the lanterns and the door completely on my own. Finally I had to learn how to take these models from Blender and export them to Unity. I hope those links help you out!
Thank you so much for the links and detailed guidance. I really appreciate it!
Such a good game, really like to atmosphere, graphics, and audio. Unfortunately, like many others, I did find it a bit too dark at times but maybe that was intentional 🤷
I pretty much wanted all light to only come from the fireflies. Originally, I intended the game to be much more about manipulating the lighting in different areas with the fireflies in order to navigate the 3D space. Which is probably why it's too dark, and I should have gone back to tweak the lighting. That's good feedback, thank you for your review!
Fun game I did find it a bit tense as it almost felt like I was going to be jump-scared at any moment lol.
I find that very interesting. It never occurred to me that some people might find the game scary, but I guess if you don't know what's out in the dark, that's a natural reaction. At some point I did want to add creepier elements to the game, but I decided against it. Thanks for playing the game!
relaxing game! I really liked the sound when catching the fireflies. I enjoyed bringing more light to my sourroundings and keeping as much fireflies I can get .
Thank you for the kind words!
really liked the idea, but found it a little too hard to see, also had a constant feeling that something gonna jump and eat me hahahaa
Not the first one to call out how dark everything is. It's good feedback, thank you! Also really surprising how you had that feeling of dread. A few others said the same thing. At some point I wanted to add some slightly creepy elements like glowing eyes staring at you from the shadows and creepier nature sounds, but as the game came together, I wanted to keep it peaceful.
Hella immersive, and brings out great vibes, keep up the good work!
Thank you, I'm glad it was immersive for you. I tried to focus on that!
Nice little experience, very good job in creating the atmosphere with the graphics, lighting, and ambient sounds. Well done :)
Thank you for the kind words!
Would have liked to see the jump be useful for something, but other than that, a neat short experience
Interestingly enough, I originally envisioned my game to be a high-paced 3D platformer with lighting elements. The jumping was the first thing I implemented, along with sprinting (which I disabled near the end of the jam). Over time, the game took a very different shape. Also a lot of cut scope as I was running out of time. Oops! Thanks for playing my game!
That makes sense! I will say I spent a while trying to jump on the pile of rocks with the tree in the middle, I swore there was going to be a lantern up there ha :)
Good sound design and a peaceful atmosphere. A game you want to play when you need to relax.
Thank you for the kind words and for trying out my submission!
liked the overall sound design! it might be a bit dark to move around, but i enjoyed the atmosphere there:)
A lot of my focus this jam was on the atmosphere, so I am glad that pulled through. You're not the only one to criticize the darkness; I think that could use improvement based on the feedback. Thanks for trying the game out!
overall is good atmospheric simple game, the graphics, the audio / BGM used and the mood is so good. the only drawback for me is it's too dark for me, that I have difficulties to move around.
I do think in some screens the game might be a bit dark. I did most of my playtesting on one screen and when I tried the game on another screen at the end of the jam, it did feel a little too dark. Lesson learned, something to keep in mind for the future. Thank you for playing!
