As high school game designers, you should be very proud. This is a very solid base that could be refined into something really nice. Wonderful work.
The music, art, animations, and core concept is very nice. I think your main issue is communication with the player; the level design and art assets didn't always clearly communicate what was solid and what wasn't. Experiment with different colors, and most importantly, get feedback from playtesters, as early as possible and as much as possible when making games. When playtesting, don't explain anything about the game, including the controls, and especially don't guide them through the game; just witness their raw reactions and emotional experiences through play. This will give you invaluable information to refine from.
I look forward to checking out your other games and seeing your growth over time ^-^
Interesting idea and simple style of graphics !
A good project that clings to its highlight (Camera's manipulation). I want to add myself that the battery will be used quickly when using the camera. While I tried for the first time to play, I ran out of energy and I did not know what to do. There isn't enough information what to do for the new player.
Overall, the cool game, thank you. :)
Yea the battery is the main problem that needs to be fixed and its something that I wish i noticed sooner lol.
You can pause and restart the level using the esc key but I guess we forgot to include that in the how to play. Sorry about that! But thanks for pointing it out.
Glad you had fun!
A calm and fun little platform game!
It's a basic platform game, where you need to manually scroll the screen, and where the bounds of the screen are solid. That being said, you need to change the view, not only to see more, but also to create a surface for you to walk on, to wall jump on (which wasn't so obvious at the start), and to shield yourself from the spikes and lasers. I must say, that this idea, is pretty unique, has a lot of potential, and is fun to play around with! The controls of the player, are also well done; they feel responsive, wall jumping is very easy to get use to, and overall, it feels like you have a lot of control over the player's movement.
The graphics look good. Backgrounds are minimalist, the main character is well drawn and animated, and the active objects differ from the backgrounds in both levels of detail, and color palettes, which I find a good design choice! Sound effects and musics, are okay, though I wish there was some more music playing in the background, because it was very calming, which fits the visual style of this game.
Even though the gameplay is very good, I do have a one complaint regarding it. The main issue, is that the game is too short, and too easy. If you know solutions to all of the three levels, which are really easy to come by, they easily can be completed in less then 5 minutes. Which is a real shame, because as I said, the gameplay is really fun to play!
But even besides that one issue, this is a really well made game. I like the idea, the controls, and the audiovisual settings of this game. These elements, make this a very solid entry!
Thanks! We really spent a majority of the time getting the gameplay down and getting the screen scrolling to work correctly and so we didn't have much time to make actual levels. That's why the level selection is so short. This is more of a demo just to show the capabilities of this idea and we hope to expand on it into a full game post-jam!
Hi, I played the game. Let's start off by saying I like the camera mechanic, it's pretty innovative, but I do think it could have been executed a bit better. I'd say the game needs to be balanced out, the infinitely respawning batteries make the game pretty easy. I also noticed some bugs like not being able to jump while clinging to a wall, I hit an invisible collider if I do, but it's nothing major. And i also got stuck in a level (it was level 1) and had to restart. The main menu is also pretty cool, tho i exit button would've been cool, but, like i've said, nothing major. The art is cool, and the ambience is chill. All and all this game could be much better with more challenging levels and a bit more variety. Instead of adding spikes add something like shorter battery spawn, static, batteries that don't recharge as much and so on. Good job.
Thanks @Freaky,
Yeah the infinite re spawning batteries was a test feature but unfortunately we didn't remove at the end. We are working at the moment on enhancing the character movements and behaviors. Also, we will be adding various enemies to the game, stay tuned!
Very fun and innovative. I noticed a few times when I lost control of the camera, but I managed to finish the 3 levels.
I think the game could use some balancing in the difficulty. I used the Camera a lot to avoid spikes but still had enough battery power left in the end.
Thanks! I agree that the game could use some gameplay tweaking. I do think its interesting that you did so well because a lot of people had a hard time getting through, but we are expanding on the the game for an eventual full release as I speak and fixing the battery is one of our top priorities!
Game that I love and hate at the same time :P Love as it is beautiful and is really fascinating, and hate as there are some things that make it really difficult to play.
Gameplay:
I really enjoyed idea with camera and boundaries, but unfortunately I wasn't able to finish the game, tho I really tried (maybe I'm not good at games like that). I was really missing some checkpoints that made me not lose all of my progress when I was about to win the level after xx attempt. Also controls felt a bit clumsy to me, they weren't that bad, but somehow I didn't get proper reaction ( I know that it's the hard part that I fail in my games too :P).
Graphics:
They are estounishing from the main menu (I just wished there were 3 other images), but it was the best menu I have seen in all of jam games and better than most of normal games. Art in game itself is also amazing. There were just smaller mistakes like animation not loading properly and walking was stuck with other animation or paralax of background was a bit too rapid and it looked a bit too unrealistic. Anyway, it all looked really well ;) (even transitions were great)
Audio:
Music in menu is amazing (if you can send me it I would love to listen for a bit longer :P ) and sounds in game were also really nice, but I missed music during game. Dunno if there is music playing or I just missed it, but nevertheless if I didn't hear it then it means something is wrong :P
Innovation:
Great idea (tho I know it from somewhere) and good realisation. Menu is incredible and I just wish you had enough time to make everything you wanted.
Theme:
It was a really good approach to theme ;)
Amazing game and I hope you work on it after the jam. I'm really looking forward to it!
Thanks for the feedback! We really had to cut a lot of corners because of procrastination and other things wasting a lot of time. We spent a large amount of time on the camera gimmick, trying to figure it all out and couldn't get as much done as we could have. That coupled with people being inactive really hindered the game's progress!
A checkpoint system is definitely a good idea though, and I do agree the gameplay needs some tweaking!
There was some ambient music in the game, but we accidentally set the volume too low, so you really need to put your volume up to really hear it.
I just wish we could've utilized our time more.
But there is good news at the end of this and that is that some of us love the idea of this game so much that we're going to continue it after the jam so we can really do this idea of ours justice. :)
Again, thank you for the constructive criticism and I hope you check out the game when we eventually release a full version of it. (Probably will take a while as we're a small group and are looking for more people.)
P.S. Hit me up on the game off discord if you want the music. Also, I really liked your game as well!
Hey, awesome idea.
I do have to say that it's frustrating to figure where you need to get at first, maybe you could give the player and option to watch the map - without moving the camera - for free?
But still pretty awesome, and I like the clean art style
Hey @dzejkop,
Thank you for the feedback, we are planning to continue developing the game and make it in a way that the player can plan his movements before hand :)
Great idea :P
nice game!
Thanks!
I reached the goal.
Niceu :))
Very nice game! Took me a bit to figure out the interface but only because I was an idiot. Afterwards, it was very rewarding. Nicely done!
Glad that you liked it :)
Super interesting concept for a game, I really like it. Graphics are pretty nice and the camera mechanism works fairly well. The controls and movement could be improved in my opinion. While it certainly might not be everyone's preference, I like using one hand for both movement and jumping, so W instead of spacebar would have helped the controls feel more natural to me. Solid game.
Thank you for the feedback! We will surely have a key binding menu so you will be able to change it with what suits you the most :)
I really see a big potential in this camera mechanic. Would love to see how the game grows!
Thank you @LogosLudos :)
We will surely continue the development of the game starting from the next month ^^
Nice prototype and graphics, looking forward to seeing this game grow, lots of puzzle game potential. Good job
Appreciated :)
Perfect theme interpretation! Really inspires me! Also love your drawing, very unique and beautiful!
Thanks! The art was made by Scarletbat and I agree, its really unique!
Some music would have helped
We have a background music, didn't you get it? Also, there are some sfxes.
There was music in the main menu and sfx in the levels, I just meant that there was no music in the levels.
We did have a ambient theme playing during levels but you may not have heard it. If you change the audio settings or just turn up the volume you might be able to hear it better! However, it is true that we need a better theme for the levels
Weird, I have music volume maxed but don't hear any music
Yeah it is weird. Probably just WebGL being stupid.
Really nice game!!
Really nice game!!
I loved the gameplay and the innovation. If you ever happen to continue working on it, it would be pretty nice
I liked the mechanics incluiding the wall jump, however, I found it to be slightly weird to find it, It was pretty fun
Also, how many levels there are?
I played 3, but I don't think I got to the part in the image
Glad you enjoyed it! The part in the image isn't actually a level in the game so thats why you didn't see it.
I had a hard time starting the game, as I couldn't get past the first jump. The menu for the 'how to play' also wouldn't go away.
Hey dg!
The problem is with the webgl version, try to refresh and play the game or you can download the windows version, thanks for the support!
