Great presentation, post effects and overall visual style. I spent most of the arrows pretty quickly and was attacking with the longsword for the last portion of the game. It felt quite short, but I liked that you've packed dialogs and story in there, it was presented really good.

To say that I was astonished when I saw 13 classes and 3 races would be an understatement. I hoped that all these choices could actually change a lot in the game, but demo is a demo :)

Really cool presentation but i had to ctr + to make screen bigger so i can see something. Good movement and combat was okay (except for bow which ran out of arrows pretty fast, but i suppose it is very small game). Loved small touches like dice sound every time you attack :) Very nice!

Developer(+1)

Hey thanks for trying it out!

The presentation of this game is amazing. I have a soft spot for meta games like this where you're playing a game within a game. As far as the dungeon crawler part goes, solid entry. Looks great, fleshed out, nice controls. Well done!

Presentation looks great, for a while... I found the blurriness annoying after a few minutes playing. Also the forced small screen... Not my thing. Feels like a waste of space to only have a sixth of the screen actually used for gameplay.

Also the characters seemed off. I chose the fighter for the guard, he only had a short bow and no weapon for close combat or after running out of arrows. The mage I chose for the assassin only had a sword, no spells.

The gameplay itself was good, smooth movements (though I missed strafing). Music and SFX  were also great.

All the stars.

I picked the character look with the huge female head and the leaf bikini.

Don't judge me.

Developer

Hahha the GIANT head was for halfling characters originally, but it made me giggle and I just threw it in for anything. HUGE THANKS for playing and reviewing so many games. I learned a TON from watching your streams and appreciate the effort it requires. You're a treasure to the community!

Amazing presentation! Had visual bugs starting on Firefox but worked better when I swapped to Chrome (unsurprisingly). The character creation is really cool, though more for style points than fleshing out the gameplay, which is a bit on the simple side. A week is very short though, I know.

My guy had a bow and ran out of arrows, kinda becoming useless? I never found more, and I’d already picked up the health items before taking damage. But it was pretty simple to step in and out to cheese combat with my other character anyway.

I really loved the presentation of this game! The game itself looks amazing, and all the setup around the game to make it look like you really are playing on an old chuckles Hackintosh is absolutely awesome! I think the idea of two characters representing the duality in the game is a really clever use!

Ultimately, I don’t really think there’s anything I could suggest for improvement. Everything felt solid to me! (Very nice stair transitions!!) If I was to really pull a suggestion for improvement out of my backside… maybe make that health bottle some form of inventory item that could be used later instead of a instant use when walked over. The core game itself is rather short, so I understand why it was done the way it was done, but still, I walked over the health potion while having full health and I felt sad (especially after I had already died once).

Amazing entry! Excellent work! Here is the link to me playing your game during my stream :)

WOW WOW WOW you get the five stars for playing and rating so many games! I was blown away that you streamed my little game and SO many others. It's a huge amount of work for you, and I hope you know how lovely it is to see other devs we admire play our games. I learned so much watching the stream, and I was really impressed that you came back to leave feedback. THANK YOU!

Great game, good atmosphere. But i killed all my homies and after i took the gold "something" from the dead man i cant find where i should to go :^(

Developer

Whew! Yeah, it's easy to get stuck. Thanks for playing.

This is a really good game. Saw it on stream, but played it again myself. I like the nicely written dialogues which put my right into the story. Its very athmosperic. Some of the choices are quite fun and sassy, haha. The presentation and drawings are also very nice. The character generation and the NPCs were cool features which made the game feel very professional. It really feels like the demo to a great game ahead. :)

Of course I persuaded the feline pirates to give up their life of crime and join me. :D

Developer

Thank you thank you! Best of luck with the jam!

Beautiful execution, very well done. I really enjoyed this. The genuine pang of sadness I felt when I reached "the end of the demo" was a strong indicator that it was a great experience.

I think it might have been stronger if the enemies moved around or perhaps if there were more danger - at no point did I ever feel threatened. Could be fine, the overall experience was very strong.

Character building was impressive but felt unnecessary, I think the effort in creating all the different character portraits could be better served created more monsters.

The overall CRT aesthetic, black and white treatment, etc was just perfect. Also the choice of cassette tapes, really into the Top 40, huh :)

Developer(+1)

Hahaha the tapes were from a random ebay photo or something. Thank you so much for playing! I did the monsters last ... haha silly plan ... so they def can be better. On the list! Have a great day, Dave!

The only thing I hate about this game is that it is only on WebGL. Windows build now.

I love it, the aesthetic is just unbeatable.

Also, I abused your game a little bit... haha. If you walk back and forth after poking an enemy, your weapon wouldn't have a cooldown. So, yea... walking back and forth to poke is meta.

Developer

Thanks so much for playing! If we'd had one more day I might have made the weapons a little smarter, hahaha.

In all seriousness, I'm super curious. ... why do you prefer a windows build? Do you like to catalog your games or something like that? I've never bothered making exes for my web games, but I might consider it if you think other people would prefer that?

Submitted

Performance mainly, web build is just so slow and unresponsive. I don’t like pressing the buttons and having it not register if you know what I mean.

Very strong game. The art style is impeccable. The audio works well, the movement feels fluid and the overall quality is high. My largest issue is that it feels very short, and I was very excited to see what was going to happen next.

Developer

thank you very much for playing! Have a wonderful day! :)

Curiously, the old Macintosh didn't like safari on a new M1 Macbook (I got the white screen bug). But nothing likes Safari on mac, so I don't count that against you.

Developer

oooo I have no excuse as I'm a rare dev who has easy access to safari on Mac. I'll take a look after the jam and try to fix it. Thank you!

Save some talent for the rest of us haha! Really love the visuals of this game, everything about it was fantastic. The environment around the game did end up getting a little annoying towards the end when I wanted to see more of the actual gameplay, but it's really hard to say I would want less of it with how much it adds to the mood. Loved the verticality in this too, was a neat way to add some more depth to the world. I agree with some others that the duality theme felt a bit lacking in the actual outcome of it, but I did like its use. Really solid entry either way, can't believe this was made in a week!

Developer(+1)

great comment! I think I'll try adding a full screen button that just shows the gameplay, so you can turn off the Mac decoration once it's lost its charm. Thanks!

Submitted

Great use of the theme, and oozing with retro appeal (even though I do wish I could make the screen go fullscreen). This was an amazing accomplishment for the 7days.

Developer

Feature request noted! Thanks a ton for giving it a go!

Beautiful and unique in the presentation. Putting the disk in to start the game was great and having the old style Mac look and feel with fonts and resolutions was just amazing. The graphics were also very self-consistent.

There was a lot of text to read and for a while it felt like a chooser your own path book. Then the combat kicked in and it was very well done. The cooldown effect was especially appealing.

The audio was spot on with some really nice effects for combat and the dice rolling.

Random or chosen character generation really made it feel like it was an in depth game. The two characters with different dialog trees making for a nice way of interpreting the duality theme.

Overall great job, well done. Best of luck with the jam.

Developer

wow, thanks! Good luck to you, too!

Really awesome idea for the landing page - looks great! The game has some quality writing and it did a good job getting you into the world. I think it would be cool to see the theme more implemented into the gameplay. Maybe your abilities change depending on alignment? Or you have choices when defeating an enemy that impacts the theme more. Overally great work!

Developer

Oooh that's a great idea, Curly Goblin. Definitely the alignment track should impact gameplay. I hadn't thought about it affecting abilities, but that's super neat. Thanks for the feedback!

Submitted

That was a great experience! The presentation is unique and well done. The music suits the game and the texts are well written. Had fun playing

Developer

Thanks for your nice comment. Have a great day!!

Submitted

Wow, the presentation of the game is really amazing.

The only thing i found odd, was the camera movement when turning around while standing on the stairs.

Otherwise, great entry.

Developer

super huge thanks for playing! I need to fix that darn stair bug...
