Amazing game with a superb look and feel to it, great handling and hands down the best, most inventive UI i've seen in the jam so far!

The explosions everywhere are excellent, I need to learn how to do that =_=

I do agree with some comments I read that the theme implementation is a bit lacking but it's such a cool game in its own rigt that I stopped caring really fast. I could see this being a hit on mobile for sure!

Developer

Thank you. Was there anything you thought wasn't particularly well executed or otherwise bothersome? Thanks!

(+1)

The game-play is really fun, and sort of original, but also sort of shallow. audio works pretty well for the title, even if it is a bit overpowered at times by the constant sound of gunfire. Objectively, I really don't like the art style that much, but I understand the style used, and it is well within being considered "good" for that art style. I feel like it sort of misses the mark on the theme. Overall though probably one of the more fun games I've played in the jam thus far.

Developer(+1)

Hey there. Thanks for the feedback. Would you mind elaborating on what you mean by "shallow"? What would you do to add more depth to it? Also, the same question applies tot he art style comment. How would you change it, if you were to make it yourself? Thanks!

(1 edit) (+1)

The coins for example don't really play in much to your final score, and if I recall the game doesn't remember them like it remembers the depth you traveled, which is used as your high-score, I would use them to, for example, purchase a gun to start the level with during the next play-through or somehow add to your final score. Weapon drops are governed by RNG  so it wouldn't do much to hurt balancing. as far as the art goes, personally I prefer less solid colors and large shapes, it feels sort of south-park like, that's just my personal opinion. I think it works just fine for this game.  I do enjoy your color pallet though, and overall I think it's a great game!

Developer

Thanks for taking the time to answer. This is useful. Taking notes. :D

Would be fun on mobile.  I don't see how it relates to the theme though.

edit: I've been reading some of your comments and I'd love it if you'd roast my game! :)

Developer(+1)

Twitch live roasting coming right up. The game relates to the theme by being about Hank the flat earther, demonstrating that the Earth is in fact not round, by digging, and never finding the bottom. Pretty paper thin, but that's because we're subtle... (That's a lie).

Submitted(+1)

Hey, great game! Had a great time playing it, trying to beat my highscore.

Not sure what is the relation to the theme, but the graphics were very pleasuring and the game was fun to play. In my opinion though, you should add a cooldown mechanic to the gun, it felt pretty cheesy beeing able to just rapidfire my way out of bad situations.

The coins also had no meaning, I guess you planed some sort of shop but didn't get the time to do it? Upgrates would be pretty fun as well, always giving a feeling of progression.

Pretty good overall, one of the bests i've seen so far. Congrats :)

Developer(+1)

Hey Gabriel. Thanks for playing.

The game is about a flat earther proving that the Earth is not round, by digging down. That's the lie. Pretty stretched really, but we were more concerned with making an enjoyable game than following the theme too closely. Your point is well made though, it's not very clear. :)

As for the coins, yes, we have upgrades and cosmetics planned. Obviously couldn't do it for the jam. I was much more concerned with nailing the gameplay down.

The gun cooldown idea was in the works. I wanted a reload time. Didn't really have time to explore it, but it worries me that the player will have a terrible feeling if they fall to their death as they are trying to save themselves at the bottom, near the drill. I think there are other possible solutions, like finding a way to flush players from being stationary, either on top, or at the edges. That should help.

Thanks for the thoughtful feedback!

Wow! The game is really well done, congratulations!

You could adapt it for mobile and release at App/Play Store!

Could be me, but I just don't get it how the game was related to the Theme of the jam.

If possible, I would appreciate your feedback for my game:

The game is about a flat earther proving the Earth is not round. :) See the lie yet?

Sure, would be happy to review your game. In fact, I'll do it on stream!

Amazing game, clever idea, you should definitely make this a full mobile game, i am sure this will get popular, it is one of the "easy to learn, hard to master" games.

Art is well made, cool details like particles when the character drags on the walls and slow motion when shooting at the agents.

Sound is good too, songs doesn't get repetitive and are fun to listen.

As for improvement, if you want to make this a full release, my suggestion would to take these coins and give them a use, like buying new guns, trails, particles, something to keep the game fresh with it's replayability. Maybe something like new planets, where you need coins or reach a certain deepness to unlock, with different enemies and backgrounds, that can be cool, why not? hahah.

The most fun game and better game design i played this jam, good job!

Developer

Thanks Chaach for your feedback. I appreciate you writing out your thoughts in full, it's the best kind of feedback.

We have planned a store with cosmetics and accessories that alter gameplay as well. As this was a jam, our primary focus was nailing the gameplay, but yeah, that's what the coins are for. :)

I'll make sure to review your game at my earliest convenience.

Highly commended effort! The design was unique. The core mechanic was challenging and rewarding. It was also reinforced by cohesive graphical and audio cues. The whole production really came together as one in such a great way.

Developer

Thanks! Was there anything in the game that you think could use improvement or changing?

The only one I can think off the top of my head is the obvious one about the collider bug in the beginning. I believe you've already fixed that one, though?

Developer

I have. Can't upload the fix, obviously, but it's there. Well thanks for your feedback!

Submitted

That was really fun! I can definitely see this working well as a mobile game. I'm impressed you got so much in, in such a short space of time, even if the connection to the theme wasn't great :D

For some reason the game really messed with the resolution on my computer when it started the first time but seemed to work okay after that.

Nice work!

Developer

Hi there, we did notice the issue with resolution. As it's a game jam and primarily focused on mobile we didn't really invest time on making technical things like these work, so we left Unity to its own devices. I suspect the fact that we went for unsupported screen ratios caused this, but I don't know.

Was there anything in the game that you would like to see improved? The more specific the better, as it will help us improve the product, should we decide to take it to market.

Thanks!

Really enjoyable!

Developer

Thanks! Was there anything you would like to see improved in the game?

woo I found the greatest bug. I dont know how but I managed to go offscreen at the beginning and it was unlimited score afterwards! if only there was an online highscore list :)

back to serious :) I liked the game good job! the content was good.

Developer

Yeah, I fixed that 1 hour after submission. I forgot to tell my Physics2D settings that "Player" collides with "Barn". LUL

I really loved the game. The shooting mechanic is easy to grasp but I still feel like has a good skill gap to master, as was stated by someone else some of my gut reaction are incorrect. Like trying to shoot above me when I should just move higher then shoot. That is where skill comes in. It has a lot of polish! I hope you guys can continue with the game and make it into a awesome Android / iOS published Mobile Game. Good Luck!

Developer

Thanks! Appreciate the praise and you taking the time!

The feeling when playing this game is just the same after buying one!  It's complete, the graphics and the effects are simple and polished, the mechanics of the game is innovative and may actually get popular on the AppStore, controlling the character is tricky, but in a fun way, and the power ups make you feel the difference between every gun!

More than a solid entry, that's game, probably not  even fitting the theme much, but still I've enjoyed playing it a lot!

See you on twitch tv! =)

Thanks!

wtf why did I send this thrice?

Developer

That's a good question, my friend. But just because I got to read the word "thrice" today, I appreciate it. :D

Developer

The multipost problem happened to me too. It happens when you click on Post without having left a rating. Itch then tells you: are you sure you want to leave this page? You say no, click Save Rating, click Post again... Boom, two posts. You can easily delete your double posts using the Delete button if you want though. Anyway. :) There.

Oh this game is amazing ! Only the left click and so much fun! Where is the android version ? :p

Very good work on feedbacks.  The game is so polish that I don't know what to say...

(But i find a one bug: there is no hitbox at the beginning of the game and you can go out.)

Nice job!

Developer(+1)

Yes, ridiculous oversight on my part. Already fixed in post Jam version! Thanks for the kind words. Appreciate it.

Submitted(+1)

Wow, just wow. This game is fucking awesome. The controls are very nice and the graphics are superb.  The variaty in coin patterns and obstacles is well done. I really enjoyed playing it and I guess you plan to port it to mobile due to the screen orientation. I think it will work nice. Would love to play it in case you put out an android version ;)

But as always in my comments, I try to find stuff that could be improved. So here is my list:

  • I have read your story on the itch page, but I'm not really convinced that your game is fitting the theme well. But to be honest, we didn't like the theme too and only used it in some parts in our game.
  • I would like to have control over the sound and music volume instead of just turning it on or off. But I think this is done because of how you interact with it and having a mobile version in mind.
  • Is it planned that you can kill the agents by hitting them with your body? It feels a little weird and makes killing them quite easy. As long as you are fast enough and they don't shoot the moment your are charging them :D
  • It is quite annoying and takes some time to get your player back from the bottom if you at any point fell down too far. Most of the time it's because you try to shoot something on top and you get pushed down. Did you try a different push back force for shooting upwards and downwards? If not, give it a try, but it could make the game too easy.
  • Your graphics are so nice and then there is your background and Text (e.g. ROCK). Why are they so pixelated?
  • I like the weapons a lot, but the automatic weapons are just too powerful :D Maybe you could use your crypto to buy different weapons instead having them spawn randomly.

But don't get fooled by my long list. Your game is the best I have played so far.

I came to your game because I really like your comments on the other games and I'm also the kind of person who gives valuable feedback. So I hope you get a chance to play our game.

Developer(+2)

Hey there. Fantastic and detailed feedback. Really appreciate it, it will help us make the game better.

In answer to some of your points:
1. Yes, we're planning on using the crypto for various stuff, cosmetic and equipment as well. Obviously didn't get around to doing it during the jam.
2. Agreed on the theme problem. Pretty paper thin connection. :) But you know, we wanted to make a fun game quickly. So we resorted to shoehorning the theme into the game later with the narrative. We do plan on adding some more context in the game to have flat earther angle be more prominent.
3. Pixelly assets... Defo something we'll fix.
4. There is a bit of a problem with the weapon balancing. We still have to explore options. During the jam, we just wanted to give variety and a glimpse of what's intended.
5. Going from bottom to top is harder, but it has advantages and disadvantages. Your point is well made though. Will ponder.
6. Meleeing agents is awesome :D That's staying. But we plan on having multiple different enemies.
7. Controlling SFX and Music will definitely be added. We just need up and down buttons. The reason we chose On/Off buttons is because they are simpler, and sort of a mobile phone standard.

Once again, thanks for playing and letting us know what you thought. Notes have been taken!

Submitted(+1)

Good to hear that my feedback will help you improve the game. Following you now so I get all the updates ;)

Regarding 2. We also went away a little bit from the theme because we had a nice idea and a cool gameplay idea. This theme is just bad, because the player will get annoyed way too much if you follow the theme too closely. Will not result in a fun game.

Btw. my record was something with 800. Does the game has an end or is it endless?

Developer(+1)

It's endless. The last area, at the moment, is at 7500 ft. But we can't get there :D

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

This is really well done.  Lots of polish, the slow motion effect is great and the gameplay is very addictive.  You should put on the app store.  I do wish it fit the theme more but, it's still a great game. Nice job!
