Hi,
nice game, played and rated.
Please feel free to try out my game and rate it here: https://itch.io/jam/cgj/rate/474542
Many thanks,
Kris
Thanks for playing!
Really interesting concept, but rough execution.
Thanks for the feedback. Most of the issues you've mentioned have already been rectified and will be implemented in the updated version. We will look into the web error you mentioned. Thanks again for playing!
I can confirm - it works in Chrome, doesn't crash. For me the jump animation got stuck, and after that the character could no longer jump.
Checkpoints would be good in this kind of game.
But still, it's a nice submission, pixelart looks really great.
Thanks for playing and for the feedback. We will look into the jumping bug you've mentioned.
Kept crashing on me too after just seconds of playing. Unfortunate, because the game looks great and something I would like to give more time and a good rating.
The game runs great in chrome, I hope you'll give it another shot!
So, pretty often i got crashes due to memory. I believe the was an option in Unity that let you increase the cap or whatever it was to prevent such things from happening.
Loved the art and SFX! Great job overall!
Hey thanks for the tip, we'll look into it! and thanks for playing!
Experienced two crashes when lighting up the first lamp and immediately jumping. No idea whether those are the steps to repro, but after I did it twice I decided not to try again, and I simply finished the first level without the light.
Your game commits the cardinal sin of restarting when you die. You should restart from the level you died in. I don't want to have to replay level I already know how to play, get bored in the process, just so I can get another crack a difficult jump, or otherwise progressing. Terrible idea.
Graphics: I liked the character pose and animation. Very Dick Van Dyke like. Charming. The graphics are consistent, when it comes to character, FG and BG. They are all pixel art. However, the light beams are a completely different technology and have a different visual style. The two styles clash.
Audio: The jump SFX sounded like a small click. The music sounded very odd. Like a kick percussion going on forever, and a tiny riff on it for like a few bars. The rest was the kick thing.
I wasn't able to experience how the game is a lie by level 3, which is where I jumped ship, because of the restart problem I discussed before.
Especially for game jams, you want a game where most or all of the content is readily available. Insta-restart is a big no no.
Thank you for the valuable feedback! I watched you play and for the most part I totally agree with you.
I understand that the game has issues running in some browsers but seems to work fine in chrome.
No restarting when you die, understood.
We will make the lamplight and cast shadows align with the pixel aesthetic in the updated version.
It appears that the jump sound is broken and the music was a poor last minute addition. We already have someone working on a whole new score and SFX library.
The game is a lie by way of the misdirection used in levels e.g. fake platforms, invisible platforms, arrows pointing you in the wrong direction, etc.
Again, thanks for taking time to play and give criticism!
My pleasure. Hope the information helps you make the game better!
Charming artwork! Fitting sounds. I love the idea of this - simply lighting lamps as a lamp lighter. I wanted to play further on but I kept running into a java error (I'm on macOS in the Safari browser so that's probably it). Otherwise nice entry!
I'm glad you liked what you saw! I was getting that error in safari as well but it works in chrome.
Yes! I went back and tried in Chrome and it's perfect!
I really liked the mechanics and the game design! The use of light as a tool was awesome! Plus, the art was top notch!
Thanks for playing, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I feel like this mechanic is unique enough to carry a full length game. I hope you keep this idea!!!!
Thanks, we are pretty into the idea too :)
Really good game, it is a little bit slow when attacks but it's a great idea to develop.
I can agree with you. Everything will be punched up in the updated version, I hope you'll give it a try then.
Awesome graphics! The main mechanic about lighting your surounding to uncover platforms is pretty clever. I found the attack to be a bit unresponsive as it is quite slow to start. And I would have loved to be able to jump and attack at the same time. Overall great entry :)
Thanks for playing! The issues you mentioned will be fixed in the next update.
