How does the game fit the theme?
The player must juggle different card effects in order to deal the most damage, while also risking their health, and potentially losing, due to the opponent's moves and their own cards' effects.
What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
An SFX handling script I wrote myself about a year ago, and the "Quick Outline" asset, free on the unity asset store

Damn, the game's visuals and mechanics are super cool! XD
// sorry for Greg tho, me bettar B)
TYSM FOR PLAYING YIPPEE, glad you liked it!!!
Managed to absolutely stomp Greg first try. Whole project is really cool, I'd love to see this further developed!
Glad you liked it, too bad I can't do balancing LMAO
Very nice card game! I really liked how the atmosphere was built in this game. I don't know why but Greg was scaring the crap out of me xd
Thank you so much for playing, glad you liked it!!
Dw, greg is a chill guy, and he wouldn't hurt a fly :)
Very nice atmosphere, the art and animation are very well made, I like this a lot especially for a solo game!
Nooooo Greeeeeg
Great animation and comedic timings. The atmosphere is on point. The text layout could be a little faster, I realized I can skip the animation but then i sometimes accidentally skipped shorter dialogs entirely. Wish the game was a little harder with more cards, maybe for a future version :)
Yeah, I'm still an amateur at balancing card games, so the game's balance is stitched together with sticks and stones xD
I really want to continue working on this in the future, expand both on the gameplay and maybe even make a story of sorts, but I don't wanna overscope it before I've even begun doing it.
Thank you so much for playing!
Kinda destroyed Greg. He didnt have to go out this way though. Nice game and a cool concept. Well done!
Tysm!! Unfortunately it had to be done <:(
you should expand on this, the podium part is a very very very good and interesting idea. Also Rip Greg
Yay, glad you liked it! I definitely do plan to expand on the idea a bit more, and I'm definitely keeping greg >:)
YAYY
Greg got absolutely owned by my death by a thousand bloodrose cuts strategy. Amazing art and ambiance. The gameplay reminds me of Like a Record, one of the winners of the last GMTK jam
yeah I've noticed a ton of similarities halfway through the development too, but I suppose it's different enough, or at least I hope so
I do think the experience is wholly different. I think Like a Record was more like meticulous and overly strategic (almost impossible to wrap your brain around). I think this game is far more approachable and I love the Buckshot Roulette esque vibe with your opponent sitting against you face to face
On top of this being more like attack based card game like slay the spire and Like a Record being more of a traditional card game with monsters and spell type cards. I just meant more so the rotating cards mechanic
Yeah, gimmickwise the podiums do be really similar, so I'm glad you liked the game regardless! :)
MACRODOSING ON POISON TO HIT GREG WITH THE SAVANNA SLAPPER GAMBIT
I love this game its so funny
HECK YEA POISON IS THE MOOVE! glad you liked the game :D
I had a great time playing with Greg! It's sometimes difficult to follow what's happening (especially when both players use reverse card), but in general the rules are clear and the game is very enjoyable. Loved the music and visuals too - it's all an impressive amount of work!
really glad you liked it! Visual clarity is something I'd definitely need to address if I ever remake the game, and I'm happy you were able to enjoy the game despite it being a total dumpsterfire in terms of clarity xD
i love the strategy and visuals of this game, not really a fan of card games but this was very fun. good job
Glad you could enjoy it even a little bit! Thank you so much for playing! :)
Really loved the layout design and the camerawork panning around when trying to see different parts of the layout, could see the inspirations from Inscryption and Buckshot Roulette! The gameplay is also interesting, trying to juggle between different card effects that risks the player's health. I hope you could expand more on this idea like adding more cards, items, and levels!
Tysm, I'm extremely glad you enjoyed it! I definitely plan on polishing up the game and adding more content after a little break :D
We know so little about Greg...
He's a mysterious fella alright
This is fun! I'll admit I didn't fully get the flow until the second or third round, but for a game jam this is very intricate. I love the sound when you beat Greg and he bonks against the table ha. Visuals are fantastic as well, reminds me of Inscryption a bit. Great work!
Tysm! It's a bit hard to get into, so I'm glad you decided to give it keep playing! Also very glad you enjoyed it :)
Really good game loved the art , the in game mechanics all worked flawlessly together like clockwork, its incredible you were able to orchestrate all this so well in just a matter of 6 days, Overall Amazing game :D
Rated:10/10 btw, Please try out my game Racookie Heist as well 😊, I worked really hard on it as well. I hope to see you in the Racookie Heist Comments section soon :D
I'm really glad you enjoyed it and thank you for overlooking some of the clunkier moments of my game! Your game was a blast too!
Thankyou dude :D
Such a fun game! Could really see the buckshot roulette inspiration. Would love to see you add more stuff to this!
Thank you so much for the feedback!!! The first thing I have to do when remaking the game is improve the clarity, cus right now it's just really hard to tell what's going on. Really glad you liked it tho!
Really great visuals and effects. The gameplay was a bit confusing at first but I beat it in my first attempt without really knowing what I was doing, so maybe there’s some work to be done there with the balancing of the game.
I made a card game myself before so I know how annoying it is to move card a round in the player’s hand and apply effects to them. But I thought the UI of the card in your entry was a bit cluttered and cards are hidden by default by the cards on top of them and selecting cards are difficult.
Overall it’s still a pretty fun game though and I can see this being expanded upon.
P/S Ending
I don’t why Greg shot me after beating him. I love Greg :(
I can see how some people would find the learning curve difficult but all in all once you get the hang of it and understand the flow, its great, nicely put together with clean vibes and gameplay, the only thing i could complain about is maybe the cards in hand visibility / their threshold for being able to see them and interact, but thats a very minor thing.
overall it came together really nicely :)
Yeah, and even though when playtesting I've heard a bunch of complaints about the cards' visibility, I decided not to change it, which was definitely the wrong call... I'm still glad you found the game enjoyable!
Fun game, I can see the inspiration of both games after a quick search in this entry (I know about buckshot, not about inscryption haha) :)
I really like the mood of the game, the song it’s catchy and good to listen to, I played a few rounds for this. About the gameplay, it’s simple enough to get into it quickly and know what you hand do, but my only problem was at the start when I didn’t know what was happening, I know what my cards do from reading the effects but when the 1st turn happened, I just saw numbers go down and stuff, which after some turns I got the trick and could understand better what was happening because Greg uses the same cards that you have, but would be nice a way to see what card activated and a quick info about the effects, like a little log in the side just displaying the info, the pace of the turn is good, just this would be nice when someone is getting into the game for the 1st time
The icons are somewhat clear, due the lack of really deep strategies, I didn’t use the phone and just put what I thought could be the best play of my hand because I didn’t feel it would change that much the result of the match since some cards deal more damage than the hp can be restored. If you are lucky, 2 headbutts back to back can do a lot of damage haha, the cards can be interesting, I never used the one that negates the effect of the opponent card and getting 5 points of poison because I didn't feel like risking that much haha
I like that if you lose, you risk it to keep playing or you get killed. 1 I got unlucky and 1 I got lucky. The sfx is great in this game and was a fun experience despite being short, I don’t know if I’ll come back to visit Greg again but I’ll say it again, the atmosphere of this game it’s great, fun entry ^^
I'm really glad you liked it, and all of the criticism is perfectly valid too! As much as I'd love to put the blame on only having 7 days to finish this, the real reason the game's mechanics aren't presented clearly from the start is my lack of experience making these types of games. Still tysm for playing!
Great game! It gives some Buckshot Roulette vibes. The gameplay is cool, too, quite fun. A suggestion would be to add some numerical indication of the damage and healing (like +2, -2), but it's a minor thing. All around very polished, fun, with great art and atmosphere! And I think Greg wants to eat my soul.
Awesome feedback, there definitely needs to be an indicator of sorts for that kinda stuff. Also dw, I'll tell Greg not to haunt your dreams, he's really chill with it :)
