Ranked from 45 ratings. Score is adjusted from raw score by the median number of ratings per game in the jam.

How does the game fit the theme?
It's a hostage situation, life is on the line and you can't make any mistakes, otherwise someone might die. (Also you could get a low grade if you're slow but that's kind of the cheaper interpretation)

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
All the Art was done during the jam, the code was partly repurposed from previous games but majority was writen during the jam. SFX were from my own libraries and pixabay.

How many people worked on the game?

Played your game on stream. If you wanted to watch me go through it I've got the vod below timestamped to your game

Really great game, I love the style of pixel art you chose, very simplistic but effective! The controls felt intuitive and fun, I like how there wasn't too much tutorial and you could jump straight into the action. I feel like being able to kill hostages is something that can go wrong, but you can try again so I guess they don't die irl :) Amazing job!

I'm really astonished you put this together in the jam, it feels like a whole game. Really impressive. I did find the difficulty very high, and I kept fumbling around. Sooo many times I hit R to 'reload' or pick up a gun and just restarted the level instead T_T. Personally I'd like if the enemies were a little less bullet spongey, since you're juggling so many different things at once in this. But that's a nitpick really, this is a great action game.

Yeah I actually added an option to switch R for G in the pause menu. The difficulty I tried to address at least partially but the game gets much easier when you play more aggressively, by sticking close to enemies, but that's a bit counter intuitive if you don't actively get into that mindset. So definitely could have added a bit more pointers appart from the already present design choices like instant pickups at close range and the option to kick enemies.

Very fun and unforgiving, good rythm.

I love this one, it's quick, it has a fast pace nature and the game is extremely easy to understand, shoot the guys, make a mistake and a hostage could die, the thing that's tough is to master, but that's only if you want the good grades, you can beat it with a basic understanding, which makes this game a 10 in my book.

Loved kicking doors and just blasting and asking questions later. I am ashamed to admit that I might have killed a few hostages with my blasting, also one time I bonked one hostage with the gun and they died.

Gotta say, pretty underrated game, it's really good and really addictive to play, I wish there were more levels to play, but the ones you have are really good for just one week period. Good job, can't wait to see how this one develops

This really is a well done and actually fun shooter, good job! I would love this to be combined with some kind of not evil story haha. The different mechanics (shooting, throwing, kicking) work really well together and you did a great job on the details aswell (like the enemies killing the hostages if you back out too long). And the katana...

Really fun game! I love how fast paced and frenetic the game is, especially if you're trying to go for an A+ or a rank on your leaderboard. The visuals look great and the game has a nice cohesive feel to it. I like that the enemies were dodge-able if you kept moving around them so the game wasn't crazy hard, but you still have to execute well. Throwing guns at the enemy is very fun too. Great work on this!

Really good! Very well polished. Nice entry.

Challenging, but fun enough that I want to keep coming back. Losses seemed fair, so there's no ragequitting impulse.

Update: I like that you allow the reset button to be remapped, but I'd like an option to remap the throw button as well. Right click can be challenging on laptop trackpads.

Developer

I kind of forgot people still use those, I might add it to the list of things to keep track of for the next jam

Nice! Mechanics work pretty smoothly. The idea of them just shooting the hostages to prevent stalling is smart.

For whatever reason sometimes I felt that my gun wasn't pointing at the right place and ended up shooting a hostage, though I'd need to play more to analyze that better.

The inclusion of melee mechanics, multiple levels, AI and the like is impressive for a week-long jam. Congrats!

Developer

The only way I know that the gun can point in a different direction is that if you shoot it before the character menages to return the gun to the previous position and angle after the recoil is applied. It's best seen with the Uzi which can rise about twenty degrees up if the trigger is held down. But shooting a pistol fast can also lead to a less extreme version of that.

Thx. Yeah that checks out.

Great game with a hotline miami vibe (LOVE it).I saw your game on nickbdawg stream then played it myself. Great entry for this jam!

This is immensely fun. Requires some memorization, but after that it's so satisfying baring into the room and clearing shooting the guy in the face, throwing the gun to stone one, picking up an SMG and emptying into another dude, like I'm a John Wick. Accidentally found the purple SMG, fun as hell. Wish I could use katana effectively, but melee weapons are pretty difficult to wield without dying immediately.
Amazing stuff, would pay money for a longer version of this.
Ah, and.. well... Who's there?

This game is something. I really like the game loop and the concept itself of saving hostages! I normally prefer shotters where you have to think before shooting instead of having infinite amo and shooting everything. This is a very complete game for only 1 week. Very well done!

The game is so satisfying, the ability to stun ennemies with a gun throw was literally the best choice of game design, it makes you change weapon every 2 second, I got so exited playing the whole game that was amazing.

Also i misscliked E at some point and i found this xd (ngl, this was fun xd)

Fun entry, I liked the level of challenge, the shooting felt good, and the balance of needing to act quickly but not over-committing was well done. Congrats on a good one!

This is a super fun game! I like it a lot! The pacing of the game is very nice, I do like the fast restart that makes the game really shine as a speed run/perfectionist run game, too! The huge amount of weapon choice and seeing how different they are from each other make me really wonder how you are able to pull this off in just a single week. Bravo. I especially like using the shotgun once I understand this is a slug rather than spread damage, and using it to two-shot each enemy is very satisfying. Btw this is probably the first time I saw achievements in a game jam, and this is just a level of polish that demands some praise.

For some criticism, I'd say the doors are very unnoticeable expecially when you are running from room to room. It would be much better if the graphics would suggest a bit more of the doors' existence. It would also be nice if there was a level selector so that I could try grinding that level. Also, some high-octane background music would be nice too!

Anyway, this is a very good entry. Well done to the three of you!

BTW, the banner doesn't do the game justice at all. Consider changing it for a better one

Developer

Honestly I was out of stuff to do half way through the jam, like the gameplay was done in about 3 days with all the AI weapon polish and gamefeel, that's mostly why we had time for stuff like achivements, I know the banner is pretty bare bones I might work on it once I have enough time and eagerness to work on it. I might also add like a grime texure or other wear from the door in front so it's a bit more vissible, without taking too much from the gritty and desaturated worldspace.

Fun, quick game! Enjoyed it quite a lot. Gameplay overall feels very smooth and exciting. These are very slight suggestions / issues that I had noticed.

-Doors are a bit too hard to notice. When starting a level for the first time, I would just pass doors and finish everything and think, "What's left?" Should have a more obvious indicator, especially at a glance since the game is focused on speed!

-Shotgun doesn't feel shotgunny enough. I was using it like a sniper to two hit enemies.

-Sometimes enemies would clip into walls and tables visually. I knocked a dude down and he just, stood up inside the wall.

Very small things, and easy to miss out on cause of the game jam setting. Good work!

Where's the SUPERHOT time moves when you move mechanic when you need it!? Definitely on the harder side, but satisfying when a sequence of moves works.

This is intense and challenging. I like the gun throw / collect mechanic.

Developer

I actually didn't even realise how close it is mechanicly to SUPERHOT. Well glad you enjoyed the challange, I like to think of it kind of less as neo from matrix (like superhot) and more of John Wick's gun fu but in game form.

Submitted

It's probably the gun throwing / pickup mechanic that gave me SUPERHOT vibes. That and I've spent a lot more time playing SUPERHOT than watching John Wick movies.

Wow, really intense combat! It's a shame I suck at this tho x)

The team did an excellent work, kicking doors and the chaotic shooting is very fun! It's just missing a cool music to add even more to it :)

Cool game but I found it frustrating when the AI had it’s gun through the wall and shot me from another room.
