I love the visuals and the music which really set the mood. The story is very relatable :). I think the controls and character animation could be more polished though, that would make it far more enjoyable. Anyway great submission!

Developer

working on that! thanks

Submitted

I really like this game.

The story really touched me, with the message of not giving up and still trying. I love the atmosphere; the character design, black-and-white aesthetic, the music, etc. I also really like how the more the protagonist starts giving up, the deeper he falls, but by the end he's platforming up. Really cool symbolism!

..also, btw, wacky stuff happen when you spam jump. One time I ended skyrocketing into the sky, but most of the time it ended giving infinite mini-double jumps.

Developer

update dropping on saturday after the jam!

Submitted

The menu didn't scale properly and parts of it were cut off, but that's easy to fix, it would've been nice if the player was a bit faster and had a bit higher jump but other than that it's pretty good. The art is also nice, it's very similar to Blackthornprod's own, but I don't know if that was intentional. Overall it's nice!

Developer

update dropping on saturday will fix that hopefully

Submitted

the design is pretty uncomfortable: the camera's too small, the character's too slow and jumps too low, i couldn't even get past a certain point.

but the music, sounds and visuals are very nice!

Developer

thanks for the feedback

Really good game with really great art and good music and atmosphere

Some critiques:

1) The animations are sometimes a bit buggy

2) Ronan is wayyy too slow

3) When the switches were pressed at the beginning it wasn't clear what they did or whether they did anything at all

4) You should add a fading screen at the end instead of that sudden end screen

Developer

thanks for the feedback

Hello.

I have some feedback for your game.

- Firstly, I'd like to say I really liked the story and music on your game.

- I do, however, wish Ronan would be faster.

- Furthermore, the animations would sometimes not work properly ( the jump one ) and the player would get stuck on the wall sometimes;

- One last thing, when you press the buttons you should make it clear that a platform spawned.

thanks fpr the feedback

Nice story, in comparison with other submissions I’ve to say that it’s not fitting into the theme. The art style is good but it has potential to improve! the animations aren’t the best and the player speed could be faster. The music is simple but effectfull, I like it. Sadly there are no sfx. Overall good job!

Developer

thanks for the feedback. Actually the storylines in the background have the topic of how less can be more :)

Fantastic, I was fully invested in Ronan! Really cute animations and art-style, great job!

Developer

thx!

I like how you built a small cozy atmosphere with a lot of small things that add up to more than the sum of their part (the doodles all over the level, the simple guitar strums, the character blinking...). Gameplay-wise, it's a really simple platformer, but I like how you used that to enhance the narrative here and there, like falling through block to symbolize failure. Nice little game overall, wish there was a bit more going on, but hey, less is more, and it is telling an important story ;)

Developer

thanks for the feedback. Appreciate that you mentioned the small details I build in!

Submitted

I like how you decided to tell a "simple" story that a lot of us can relate to during making games for the jam ^^' very interesting art-style (kind of like invader zim)

Developer

thx!! :)

i enjoyed playing this! everything is great apart from the jump which feels very floaty.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback!

And this was the first step, on a remarkable journey :) Great work . I loved it.

Developer

Thank you so much!

Love the art style.  That plus the music gives the game a nice calm/relaxing experience.  Nice job!

Developer

Thanks!

The design and idea are gold. The art style and pacing are so fit. I like your story/ Ronan's experience. Keep it up. Just maybe paying attention to the collision boundary. Decrease the friction of the wall may help to solve stuck on the wall after jumping

Developer

Thanks for the positive support. I know the problem with the friction on the walls. I will definetly look into that :)

Developer

I am looking into that. After the jam has ended I will update the game :)

Had a good laugh ! Nice art :)

Please let Ronan know that I enjoyed his game! Visuals are great and the whole game is nice and fits the theme well. I had a few issues with the mechanics, especially getting stuck on blocks when jumping.

Developer

I am glad you liked it and I will tell Ronan that he did a good job! I will take a look at the bug you mentioned as well :)
