Love the art style

Developer

Thank you so much, our art team worked hard on it!

Despite the many bugs I encountered in my playthrough, namely the retry button on the game over screen not working sometimes and getting fired out of seemingly nowhere, I enjoyed the art and charm of this game. The dialogue is pretty funny and the visuals are pleasant to look at. The sound is quite loud at a low volume, so maybe that could be lowered a little, but this game seems very promising!

Developer

Indeed there are some annoying bugs (we had to rush it to have a build to submit) but we already have a patch ready to be updated after the jam that will correct those. Thank you very much for playing and taking time to give us a feedback!

That was amazing, congrats ! I really like the idea to run between the levels ! It could totally be developed in a larger game ahah

Developer

Thank you! We thought a lot about the running bewteen levels because we wanted to really give the feeling that the NPC was doing everything on his own, and the artists really did an amazing job to capture that moment perfectly. Thanks for playing!

You're probably already aware that the progression is bugged. Sometimes the knight doesn't even arrive and you get fired. Sometimes when you lose, the replay button doesn't work, but the space button is still being displayed, etc.

Besides that... This is amazing! One of our initial game ideas was to have you play as an NPC, but we couldn't figure out how to construct a game like that. This is a such cool way to approach it. It says a lot about the quality of your writing that I kept retrying the game even despite the bugs. I was more tempted to lose on purpose just so I could annoy the knight. :D

P.S. the presentation is flawless, art + sound. Well done! I hope you expand it.

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much ! :D Indeed we know about those annoying bugs and we already have a patch ready to be released after the jam, I hope you will be able to enjoy annoying the Knight in all possible ways with it ;) Thanks for playing and taking time to give us a feedback, I'm glad you could enjoy it even with the bugs!

I like the idea, but sometimes i dont really know why i was fired. I understand its a bug, but yeah

Developer

Yeah sadly we only noticed it after the deadline

Wow, I'm quite impressed here! I liked how you thought of everything at the same time and that every point was really finely tuned: music, dialogue, visuals ... I had a good laugh with the music when you loose and the mini-game between levels.  Like others, I just had a few problems with the dialogue selection and the restart button not working. Would have love to have more gameplay aswell but When a game is this well finished, you obviously want more... and then you remember that 48 hours is a really short time ;). I don't usually say that, but hats off to you!

Developer

Waw so much praise thank you so much! Yes our sound designer gave us a good laugh as well with that final song! Thanks for playing our game and taking the time to comment! We'll be sure to work on those issues!

I laughed out loud in the loading sequence where you have to run fester than the knight. It was sometimes hard to tell which was the correct answer, not sure if getting insulted by the knight was normal or if there was a better answer. I got a bug on my second playthrough that made me lose before the knight arrived and then the game was unresponsive. The best take on the idea of playing an NPC i've seen so far !

Developer

I'm glad you had fun playing the game ! And yes we indeed have a few bugs, but we already have a patch ready for after the jam that will correct both the game over before the knight arrives and the dialogues where sometimes a correct answer would trigger an incorrect reaction. Thanks a lot for playing and taking time to give us a feedback ! :D

One of the strongest I've played from the jam, especially in the "you're the NPC" genre. A really impressive experience for the 48 hour time limit.

Developer

Wow I'm really happy our game managed to stand out to you! Thank you for taking the time to comment!

Pretty cool game! The art was neat, and the dialogs really fun to read. ^^

I sometime had some issues where it didn't seem that the option on which I clicked was actually the one selected (like it answered from another one). But it didn't seem to have too much impact on success, so it's fine. :) I like the variety of tasks, between cleaning up, disguising, even a mini-game between levels. There's a lot of creativity everywhere, and on top of that the game offer glimpses of a neat universe.

You did an amazing job on this game. Congrats!

Developer

Very happy you enjoyed! We indeed have a bug where the dialogue doesn't react well to the option chose, but we are already working on it for the next patch! Thanks for the comment!

Submitted(+3)

I love the art as well as the overall idea. The added variety in a form of a NPC running minigame (rapid space bar pressing) was also cool.

Developer(+1)

Thnk you! I'm glad you like the NPC running, because we really tried to give this idea of "it's one guy behind all NPC that does all the work" and we thought a lot on how to give that feeling, and with the space bar it adds some variation in the gameplay. Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+3)

Very fun adventure, love how the game thematizes capitalism. Great artwork, music and storytelling of course. Only thing is that i dont even know why i was fired haha :D

Developer

Thank you for your comment, I'm glad you had fun playing! :D For the feedback, yeah, a lot of players say the same, they don't know why they were fired. We have a small bug with some right answers giving sometimes a wrong reaction, so it may be a reason, but overall we should be clearer about what caused you to be fired (like, maybe, a recap' of where you failed to be immersive). Thank you for playing ! :D

I just wanted to share my eggs, but noooo the knight didn't want them, but I tried.... Plus in the end when i gave him eggs it didn't even matter..

Developer(+1)

A TRUE hero would have accepted your eggs, it was just not the one for you my fellow NPC...

Submitted(+3)

Really good fun! We had the same idea, but I love your execution of it: the racing-the-adventurer-to-the-quest mechanic was very funny and enjoyable, and the writing was really well done!

Developer

It seems the idea ended up striking many of the people who participated in the jam, but I'm glad you were still able to enjoy the way we tackled this idea! I'll take some time to try out yours!

Submitted(+3)

This is so fun! I really love how you executed the concept and how fun it was to try again doing different things each run just to see what happens. Art is superb as well

Developer

I'm happy you enjoyed it, thanks for the kind words!

Love how charming this game is! I did find myself wondering how good of a job I was doing (or if I was changing the outcome at all), since I didn’t feel too much feedback from the game other than the Hero’s responses. Not sure how bad I was being at my job by leaning on the eggs so much (but who wouldn’t lean on the egg talk?) Very humorous submission, had a great time, great work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! Player feedback has been brought to us multiple times, it's good to see it is a universal problem we'll have to work on, thank you for the feedback!

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much for your comment! Yeah, a few players agree with you that our way of giving a feedback was not clear enough (it is related with the hero's different skins), but time didn't let us do it good enough and maybe we could find some other way to do it. I'm glad you had fun, thanks for playing the game!

Great game! I loved the dialogue options, and had a hard time resisting some of the funnier ones. I came across a few bugs with the restart button and the knight showing up instantly, but this was hilarious to play overall.

Developer

I thank you sir for your bug report! We shall put them in our list! And I thank thee for the time spent playing the game and commenting on here!

The art in this looks so good.

And there were lots of good dialogue options.
Just a shame picking them means having to restart the game.

Not sure if I'm right, but getting extra time by mashing Space during loading was a nice touch.

There's some holes in the retry coding (it would fail me the instant the prep time was up).
But other than that, a very fun and good looking entry.

Developer (2 edits) (+1)

Thanks a lot! Yes we sadly have an issue where some dialogue options are wrongly assigned and will make you fail when you shouldn't. Oddly enough the mashing to get more time is not a mechanic we implemented, but it sure is an interesting one if we were to push the game further after the jam! It would make lots of sense since we'd get there earlier than the knight, and would reward the player for getting their faster, very interesting! And that last point goes straight up in our bugs to be fixed!

Thanks for taking the time to review our game!

The art is AMAZING! Really nice job.

Developer

Thank youuuuu!

The artwork alone is absolutely stunning for a 48-hour jam. I suspect we'll see a lot of people interpret the theme with "playing as an NPC", but framing it as an agency was a fun framing device and an inspired touch. Rushing during the loading screen was charming, and the chicken was a nice continuous thread.

If the game got more polish, I would like to see stronger player feedback. The hero's arrival always felt sudden. I eventually wondered if the music kicking in was some sort of cue, but it was too abstract to be sure. Consider adding footsteps or some visual element foreboding his entrance.

Similarly, I struggled to understand how well I was doing. I eventually concluded that the hero became purple when I picked the right choices and red/orange when messing up, but I feel that's not strong communication. His dialogue helps, but it's still hard to know when you do well because an adventure has all sorts of ups and downs. I felt a little caught between trying to roleplay as the NPC and figuring out how to massage the hero's ego.

Overall, this is an amazing accomplishment. My congrats to the team.

Developer(+1)

A very detailed feedback, just what I love! I'm glad our approach on the not so original "playing as the npc" idea manged to stand out in your eyes! We worked hard to make it feel unique and personal!

Someone else mentionned the player feedback needed to be worked on and in hindsight I fully agree! The song was meant to indicate the arrival of the the knight indeed, but it is good to know we could have pushed it further. As for the feedback on the dialogue, it's a mix of dialogues having an issue and not always giving the right reaction and the sprites for the knight not being well assigned due to time constraints. Your comment on the dialogue is very interesting though, we hadn't considered that !

Thank you again for your kind words and especially taking the time to give us some constructive criticism!

An incredible accomplishment in only 48 hours, the presentation, the art, the music, everything was great! I loved your take on the "quest giver" role reversal idea! Particularly a fan of having to race to an area before the hero gets there, that was hilarious, awesome work!!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so so much for the kind words and espacially taking the time to play and comment!
