How does your game fit the theme?
Our game features mechanics that limits the player's options to control the character, which can be taken back with skillful play. It is contextualized through a haunted video game that curses your controller as you receive damage.

The gameplay itself does not feel very new- it has a very nostalgic feel with a slight twist, but not significant enough to add much depth to the mechanics.

However, I have to give this game top marks just for the presentation. The art is beautifully crafted, and I love the combination of high-res surroundings with the low-res game. The music is also very old-school and fits the mood perfectly. Overall, the game is extremely beautiful!

Great work!

Awesome game, loved the concept, but the presentation is certainly the best thing, great job!

This is very cool! Nice work to all of you. The presentation really impressed me. I appreciated the small touches like each button on the controller in the UI being pressed when the respective key is. And the integration of the framing device into the gameplay itself is quite clever. The flames on disabled buttons, the actual button names appearing inside the tiny flames on "screen"—I loved it.

Making the kick home in on enemies was a smart design decision because it compensates somewhat for lost directional controls and enables recovery. The game did get frustrating when I lost enough controls, though. At that point I was just spamming what buttons I had left, and it wasn't especially fun. If you were going to evolve this concept, I'd suggest adding and balancing abilities such that each can compensate for the loss of the others in some fashion, probably just requiring a different play style. Ideally the player should be able to recover even when down to a single input, just like it's still possible to win in other games when you've only got a sliver of health left. But if all you've got left in your game is literally "Left," then you're pretty much out of luck.

Anyway, excellent job, and congrats on a completed jam submission!

Thanks for the thoughtful feedback! The last piece of control to be lost is always the "Flying Kick" ability wich has a auto-target mechanic toward objects in the game, so it should not be possible for you to get stuck because you're  left with only one input.

looks cool, nice art n sound. kick felt useless like an attack but not bad a dash. kinda used going off screen as a cheat :D

The pixel art and animations are top notch, the music is superb, the player attacks are satisfyingly snappy, the enemy AI has variety, the plot feels like it's ripped straight from an old school NES game, and the core mechanic receives full marks for creativity and fitting the theme. The fact that this was made in 48 hours is nothing short of outstanding.

I have very few critiques. The main character feels a little slow since I prefer faster-paced games with quicker player movement and enemies, but that comes down to personal preference. I also experienced a bug where one of the enemies walked off screen and couldn't be attacked until he walked back (although he could still shoot projectiles at me from off screen). Outside of that, I just wish there was more content. More enemies, and maybe some varied level design. Nothing that isn't immediately excused by the time constraints of the jam.

Full marks all around. Well done.

Superbe game! Everything is marvelous!

Two little details: the game tends to defocus when not in full screen (using the arrow keys) and the bips from the text are a bit anoying.

Overall, thank you for your game!

Wow great concept and really nicely polished. The art and sound effects are great and it is a really satisfying game. Nice work creating a complete package for the jam!

Superb pixelart (great work from Crowno), great audio. The tilting when you get hit is great, but its cool that you did the punch move which moves you to the enemy as well so that helps a lot! I somehow lost a direction key near the end which disappeared from the screen, thankfully the punch move saved the day. You could say it was out of control. Gameplay is well done with nice hit frames, variety of enemies.  Great work!

That "OH" moment when you take your first hit is great.

Presentation is ridiculously good, music and art work really well to create a nice aesthetic. It's also nice to see a game made in construct. The concept is really cool too, but I feel it feels too easy until you suddenly lose 3 movement options and are just completely screwed. Still it was pretty fun, and I'm sure given enough time you can get really good at this. Good job, devs!
