An elegant topdown shmup.

Great game, I loved how the music slowly ramps up in intensity!

Out of curiosity, did you at any point try giving the player control over firing with LMB?

Developer (2 edits) (+1)

Thank you for playing!  I actually didn't try that , the idea from the begining was to not have any inputs. That's why it's out of control.

Of course, makes perfect sense and works great as it is! Did you think about putting a dash in at any point in development?

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

I was thinking about it, something like a quick swipe over your character could make you dash, but I tought that's too complicated for a game that lots of people will play for a minute or two.

Thoroughly enjoyed it. The presentation and gameplay go very well together. I love how reloading works. Maybe you could have added a *click* sound effect on a finished reload and an empty clip though since I ended up trying to fire my gun prematurely a few times.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! there actually is a reload sound but is not very well timed, also your last bullet fired sounds differently. I'll sure improve these sounds.

I can smell the Devil Daggers influence in this and I love it. Seems like we dipped into the same sauce for this jam.

Developer(+1)

ahaha someone knows whats good :D. Thanks for playing!

This is absolutely my favourite game so far, I love this so much. I'd love to see this expanded on after the jam!

Developer

Thank you! I'll see how it goes :D

More lifes... Please!🥺🥺🥺

Developer(+1)

Hello, Thanks for playing! These games are usually 1 life games and you have to survive as long as you can, It's about not making mistakes and improving. More lifes would not help with that.

That's sooo good ! The fact that everyting is controlled by the cursor is a really well-thought design (i mean, because it works well)
but i don't really see what's out of control

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks! It's out of control because you don't press any buttons. Everybody can interpret differently what out of control means.

This was surprisingly very very fun! great presentation. I really enjoyed the reload mechanic.

Wow, that was awesome :D
I will play it so much more!

Wow I LOVE this game!!  The art and animation and the FEEL are all super slick and the concept and execution are so so so interesting and unique and challenging while also being fun.  Had a blast trying to master this.  A+, one of my favorite games in the jam so far!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you so much! I wish I had put an online highscores into the game so I could see all your times.

This game is sick, I was really surprised at how tight the control scheme is despite being somewhat unusual.

Developer

Thank you! I put a lot of effort into that so it feels nice.

The pixel art is lovely, the effects are great, and it all runs like a charm. The main problem is the lack of settings. The bottom and top parts of the view were obscured by the fact the game was stuck in fullscreen at a set resolution, and there weren't any window size options in the options.ini.

Gameplay works better than the concept might bely, with shooting being satisfying. I do wish there was a health system, or at least a smaller hitbox.

Got up to 64 seconds. Fun game!

Developer

Thanks for playing! You could try Alt+enter to fix resolution, hitbox is your shadow.

That was a really clever a satisfyingly good game. The description I was like "oh I wonder how this is gonna turn out". It actually plays really well. There are a lot of times when you shoot when you want to move.  But that's I guess part of the skill of the game. I got 78 seconds. I might play this again later though.

Developer

Thank you for playing ❤ . Yeah those circling enemies were actually designed around this problem, you should keep the cursor closer to your character and only reach out if you wanna shoot.

Great execution

This was great! I love all the gun upgrades, it was very re-playable. Good work!

A pretty nifty game with a nice style and difficulty curve to it. Wasn't sure how well I'd deal with the controls after reading the description, but you've done it quite nicely! For one, I'm thankful for the generous shooting hitboxes, and I'm definitely thankful for the rapid upgrade system for the gun. Was quite fun to leave a small trail of destruction, even if I only could last about 100 seconds before my brain gave up from Too Much Happening. Nice work! :D

Also, here's a bad fan art:

Awww look at him! Thank you so much! :D

Felt the character should have more life than a 1-hit

Developer

Thank you! These games usually are 1-hit. Have you played Devil daggers? You should try it, lots of fun.

awesome best top down shooter ever in 48 hours

I like when the design consists of the few colors that really blend together nicely. It's just so aesthetically pleasing, and your game absolutely fits this description :)
The twist with the control for a top-down shooter is on point, not just cause it fits the theme, but it's just so interesting and fun idea. Keep up making games, I liked your style!
