nice game ! it's definitely out of control and the graphics are beautiful

Didn't have the patience to beat the game, but the concept was fun and unique. The fact the vacuum sucked the opposite direction my mouse was moving was a bit weird too, other than that still a fun game.

Alright, that was quite challenging game.. but I somehow managed to beat em' all! (love that mario voiceline lol)
This is my thoughts on the game :

First, the controls were.. a bit hard to get used to, the vaccum(?) moving slower than my actual mouse made controlling the ball & making quick saves from the ball getting out of the bounds much harder.

Second, the idea of vacuum golfing was very unique & wacky.. plus, the fact that you also golf around with bowling ball makes it even more funnier in terms of ideas & humour aspects of the game!
I really liked it >:D

Third, the level was really, really hard -- it's like dark souls of golfing. especially on the third level, where you have to use the bowling ball to roll over the spikes.
Also, in that level you would occasionally swap back to normal, red ball from the bowling ball if you happen to land & stop the ball in the 'swap trigger.. I assume that happens because of the bounding box of bowling ball is too big & keeps hitting the ball swap trigger even though the ball isn't moving & user's not intending to swap?
And the physics of the ball didn't work quite well with the level's designs, especially on the goal pit where you could just bounce upwards & overshoot instead of perpendicular to the slope and back.. But since like, physics is damn hard to make it feel good (especially in the scenario where you're given a 48 hour deadline AND you had to code all of the game), I can understand that.

Overally, I thnk the idea was really brilliant & wacky, I think in terms of originality & fun it was the best entry I've played!
But the execution seemed like it could use more improvement. Such as making the controls more intuitive (the current 'move the mouse to rotate the vacuum' is too hard to control), Making the game's physics and controls to be incorporated well into the game's core 'vacuum golfing' idea, And finding the perfect balance between the ball's controllability and out-of-controlness.

I can see a lot of potench' in this entry turning into a well fleshed-out & fun party game / 'getting over it'-like game that fits well in the casual scenario!

Thanks for the in-depth input :)

As for the controls, I wanted the vacuum to be "free floating" so the player could vary the amount of suction based on distance. This should work better once I improve the physics. The reason that the ball likes to "bounce" out of the goal is because the goal is a "slope", and the slopes physics aren't quite good enough to handle it. I have plans to add a "targeted" mode to the vacuum, where you lock onto the nearest object (there will be other moveable objects for puzzle aspects later on) at an adjustable depth (third mouse wheel) for easier moving.

Ah, that's interesting to hear, I'm looking forward to the improved post-jam version!

The controls and physics in this game were very frustrating and seemed like they weren't properly tested by people outside the dev team. Did not enjoy this game, but I liked the UI, music and sound effects.

It's more along the lines of my secondary programmer backed out at the start of the jam so I ended up having program everything and didn't have time to debug the physics the way I wanted. :(

I love the concept of the game, it is really fun, but bit frustrating, which I can forgive, because it fits to the theme. The pacing could be also better, I have finished first and third level on my first try (3rd level literally took me only a few seconds), but I kept dying at the second level over and over. Overall, great concept, that with more time and better execution could make in my opinion a great stand alone game. Well done!

This game makes me want to commit sewer-slide, well done! In all seriousness though it's an interesting mechanic and considering you used what looks like a custom engine you did good for the time constraint. I liked the balance between the red ball, the bobber, and the bowling ball, that was a neat expansion on the original mechanic.

It was definitely hard ngl but I managed to go through it the second level. Once I saw the third level's ending I immediately closed the game down immediately.

It took me roughly 5 minutes to beat the second level. I struggled and fought the controls but heck I'll try my best to see what's in store.

My biggest gripes is that dying forces you to wait 6 seconds. 6 unskippableseconds! It's like a huge amount of time to wait in between runs and considering I was died over 30 times most of the time spent was waiting rather than playing.

I understand it was made in a short 48 hour time frame window but the simple act of moving around your ball is hard but not very satisfying for the reason that physics system does not work in the way you anticipate it to.

The reason I closed the game is because in the second level It is very easy to  overshoot your ball. Due to the boolean nature of the vacuum cleaner. (Your either sucking at max speed or you're not) But overshooting is penalized, if your ball goes offscreen you die. You wait 6 seconds and start over. The designer of the levels put these goal posts next to the offscreen edge meaning that even the smallest margin of error will result in failure.

Due to the ball's having quite a bit of bounce If you manage to somehow to pull the bar high into the air and really sickly land it into the goal post the ball will end up bouncing but sometimes it would react to the slopes around it and sometimes it would not. And due to the sloped edges of map the ball would end bouncing up in unpredictable ways, the golf ball is worst contender.

So the logical and only way to win is get the ball on the edge of the water press your mouse once or twice so it doesn't overshoot into the goal post, and prevent the ball from bouncing as much as possible.

My biggest gripe is that these systems make the game harder to play, having bouncy balls in the game is a great idea if it's going to make the game funner such as basketball.  Only here I'm deliberately fighting to not have the ball bounce at all or I might end up losing.

Oh hey it's Boon! I remember you from the JamCraft game jam back in April. Do you plan on updating your newsletter anytime soon?

Hi PDX! Yeah I've been working on Wally
I was thinking of making a postmortem on our GMTK entree.

The ball actually isn't "binary". Depending on the balls weight factor and distance from the vacuum the amount of suction varies linearly. However the game is discarding speed fractions erroneously and I didn't have time to find out why, so you end up with speeds varying much harder than they should.

There's a bit of a trick to getting the ball into the hole, just try getting it slightly away from the goal, and then suck almost straight up so you have very little x vector, and lots of y, so you come down almost directly into the hole.

Due to lack of time, the designer (me), was unable to make enough levels to naturally let your skills in ball handling progress to the point where you could handle the third level gauntlet easily. However for me (the programmer and tester) I was able to handle it fairly well due to my hours of play-testing :P

I know what you mean, sometimes one gets so good playing the same few levels so much that they become their worst enemy. Definitely would recommend at least shortening the death time.

Physics issues aside (my bowling ball had a habit of getting stick in a wall), I really enjoyed turning off my brain and playing a deliberately wacky game. Visuals play to that simplicity with a Windows95 vibe.

While the idea is very cool, the execution was a bit poor, with difficult controls. Couldn't get past the water area of the second level

All levels are 100% completable, as tested by me and my crack team of game devs :)

But yes, the physics are less than ideal. A couple changes I would like to make include locking the vacuum to a orbit around the ball and building a better collision system. But you have to admit it's fairly good for 2 days of physics with no prior tutorials (there are none I could find for balls that didn't use Box2D)
