How does your game represent "Slick"?
The word "slick" made me think of oil slicks, so that was my jumping off point. Oil floating on water is a mechanic in this game -- it isn't as useful for beginners, but can be used for a devastating super move when you get more advanced.
I also tried to make the graphics and gameplay as slick as possible!

Struggled a little bit to understand everything that was going on. This did not come intuitively for me as the super 3D space. Some kind of tutorial beyond the cycling tips might help. Wild concept and I actually love it. Glad I was on PC. The acquiring sound effect felt a little too blippy. A slightly rounder sound would smooth that audio feedback out well to match the warmness inherent to this kinda water vibe.
ACTUAL WATER! ERMAGERD HOW! It ran rough on the laptop had to break out the desktop but CUZ OF DOPE WATER OBVIOUSLY. Beautiful Walrus!
This game was soooo cool. Hidden gem for sure. I was initially so drawn in by the graphical presentation, what beautiful water and abstract world. And as I kept playing and died, lil' dipper kept telling me the next cool thing to do. What a fun and intuitive way to teach the player. I really loved my experience with this game, and if I had a proper mouse instead of a touchpad I could see myself really trying for a high score!
Cool game, sick music, great aesthetic, and love the HUUUUGE splashes! Kersploosh indeed.
My only suggestion would be adding a distinct drop-shadow or similar visual indicator to the player character to make their position in 3D space a bit easier to track.
Your game rules, great job! :)
This is a really interesting and beautiful game! The caustics and water in particular look very slick! The high score system really made me want to keep playing. Cool game!
Very unique game and I love the water simulations going on!
This is such a great and unique artsyle. I did have a little trouble getting used to the controlls and knowing where im at in the 3d space (can be blamed on my massive skill issue). Very fun!
AMAZING GAME I'm giving it a perfect score. The live high score was genius.
But why stop at making the most 3d game ever made, when you can make the most 4d game ever made??? My brain power level isn't high enough to understand the 4th dimension. But maybe yours is? I'm sure you'd be able to make a crazy 4d game!
Sick aesthetic and visual style, love the whole vibe reminds me of like Frutiger aero and the like! i would say that after a bit the amount of bubble particles does cause some visual clutter making it hard to see where the green orbs are but other than that, solid concept and fun game!
This truely was one of the most 3d games of all times, I did not quite understand it but from the description it seems to have a ton of depth inside of it. The enemies look really cool and the overall aesthetic is actually incredible. The leaderboard integration was also a really cool feature.
i love the style so much, and the mechanics are really cool, i suck at this game a lot but its still loads of fun. very well made.
I’m unfortunately not very good at this but it’s pretty impressive, especially with the leaderboard integration!
Who would've thunk slick could be interpreted that way as well? You are a genius to come up with such an original concept. I had a blast playing this potential masterpiece! Cheers 🍻
Do make sure to play and rate our game as well (it might take a minute for it to load)
now das slick
This is a good game. Enjoyable, rewarding, and visually exciting. It's difficult and fun to control. I felt myself wanting to place on the leaderboard. Easily the best game I've played so far. Very well done.
The bubble technology here is industry leading: I've never seen so many bubbles on screen at once. The best part is that this cutting edge bubble/fluid simulator has a whole game attached thats incredibly well thought out and addicting. I *really* want to be #1 on the leaderboard.
The little details are so nice: the dotted lines on enemies and player height indicator make 3d movement reasonably intuitive once you get the hang of it. The music is super catchy and fitting for all the frutiger aero goodness, and the low pass filter opening up when you surface is just a perfect detail. Most importantly, the core gameplay loop recontextualizes the Hyper Demon/Devil Daggers formula wonderfully. One of my favorites from the jam so far.
thanks so much for the glowing review! nice comments on the graphics tech are really nice to read, because i worked in the game industry and i'm trying hard to bring some of that experience into the indie games i make. hopefully, that will give me the edge to make a living as an indie, despite the crowded market now.
godot engine is so awesome for making games like this. the bubbles are spherical GPU particles, and then I wrote some shader code to make them look like bubbles and to distort their vertices via the inbuilt noise functions.
good luck on ascending the leaderboard! i will say that the current WR of 4:11 is easily beatable, you just need to learn how to use scatterbombs.
This is what video games will be like in 2007
(game is extremely fun and very fun to look at)
Very cool! Super unique and interesting visuals, the water looks great when you get some big waves going. I love when a game makes use of the full 3D space and you've done a great job of doing that while keeping the controls fairly simple
Woah, these visuals and sounds are awesome. Kinda reminds me of Cocoon. I think it was a bit difficult to aim and tell what was going on, but I liked what I was seeing and hearing for sure. I can tell this is the type of game that you can do some crazy stuff with, too.
thanks for the kind words! if you struggle with positioning you can try hitting Tab during gameplay to switch to perspective mode. it's a feature i snuck in at the last minute, so there's no mention of it in game
WOW. What an underrated game. This feels like it takes a lot of inspiration from stuff like Hyperdemon and Devil Daggers, but this is like SUCH a cool twist on it. The water bending, the like actual graphics, the atmos, the weird, albeit, hard to read orthographic camera...
So much hidden tech, the little bomb, the like combos, CRAZY work.
Seriously I need a steam release of this or something
thanks so much for this glowing review! it sounds like you had the intended experience :)
as for steam releases there are links in the credits screen where you can follow my work! my biggest project right now is arcade2000, a site which intends to bring together multiple games like this (from other devs too, not just me) in the best online scorechart system ever. my interactive freeware site is ultimatewalrus, com and if you really want more content similar to Kersploosh! you can check out Vertabyss and Vertico which are the first two games where i was figuring out this 3D submarine control scheme. (i did not reuse their code for the jam as they were different engines, but i did iterate on their design).
These are all so crazy, I've been going through all your freeware stuff right after playing this game. I needed to see more from you, and I am like absolutely blown away by the variety and ingenuity in them!
