What engine? Any engine is fine, as long as the game is playable on Windows.
What assets can I use? We strongly encourage you to make new assets for the jam, but any assets you have the rights to use and that don't break the rules are fine (e.g. asset store).
How’s submitting work? When the theme is revealed and the jam begins on January 29th, you will have until 11:59pm US Eastern time on February 7th to upload your entry to the jam. After that time, you will be unable to make ANY changes to your submission. We highly encourage you to ensure your game is ready for submission before this time!
How's voting work? After the submission period ends, voting will open. Games that rank highly in multiple categories are the most likely to be played on stream. It's not the only factor, as the organizers will also make 2-3 wild card selections to ensure a good variety and leave room for underdogs. Voting will be open to members of teams that submit a game. Team members must have an itch.io account added as a contributor on their game’s submission to be able to vote. Voting ends February 17th.
NOTE: Although voting will end and we will tally the results as of February 17th to use in our selection, the voting period will be extended afterward to overlap with the streams. This is to prevent submissions from being altered between the end of voting and the beginning of the stream. We will not use the results of voting after this date to determine what games are played on stream.
How's judging work? When voting ends, the organizers will review and select the finalists to be featured on the game jam livestreams at twitch.tv/dunkstream. Then the Head Judge (videogamedunkey) will play them at an as-yet-TBD set of 3 dates, where he will see the finalists for the first time. After the last stream, trophy and certificate winners will be chosen by the Head Judge and subsequently sent by USPS mail.
Is every game going to be played on stream? We’ll be aiming to have 40 to 50 games shown in total between the three days of streaming. Our prior jams had hundreds of entries, so unfortunately we won’t be able to stream every single submission.
How long will each selected game be played on stream? For a minimum of 10 minutes, but some may be played longer at the judge's discretion.
How many winners? There will be one grand champion, and multiple judge's choice category award winners.
