Did you work in a team?
No

Was the resolution a challenge?
It was tough to design levels around it and manage screen space but it was interesting and allowed me to keep the scope small

What did you learn?
I learned a lot about level design since I had to create many different chambers that used each mechanics. I also learned a lot about making bosses more efficiently.

Nice entry, this little game requirees a lot of skil and good timing. The usage of weapon pushback is a genius idea. Graphically it’s simple but the style is quite fitting for how the game feels, nice animation, simple very readable sprites, low colour spectrum. Great entry and very fun to play.

Nice tight platforming with a great variety of level layouts. You had a wide variety of mechanics that all worked really well together!

Very nice mechanics and music. Jumping in the air can be a little frustrating sometimes.

The rocket jumping physics work really well, and the animation around the 360 degrees of rotation are very nice. The explosions are satisfying and the progress between levels tutorializes techniques nicely. The art and sound give off relaxing and not-so-hostile vibes that another Metroidvania may choose, and I like that a lot.

A bit control heavy (aka I'm not very good at controlling it), but pretty cool main mechanic nonetheless... good job!

Developer(+1)

That’s fair. I’ve been thinking of ways to make it easier and I have one or two but it will take a while to do. Thanks for the comment

Cool game! I went to Itch for inspiration and this game caught my eye. Nice work, would recommend 100%

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I hope it worked for inspiration

I found the blasting mechanic to be kinda hard. Now seeing the screenshots, It seems I wasn't using it the way you intended. I kept using it as a second jump. I think this game could potentially benefit from not having a jump ability at all, to reinforce the blaster as being the primary mechanic.

Developer

No jump is actually really interesting and I might use that as a mechanic but I like it as a way of getting not as much height as the rocket jump. Thanks for the feedback

I loved how the mechanics of the rocket and the bomb worked to propel the player. Very resourceful using the same rooms to backtrack through from a different angle. A few of the rooms were super tough but still manageable as some obstacles left little room for error but overall this was a really solid effort.

I wonder how the game would play if player's aim moved when the mouse moved as opposed to being in relative to the position of the room.

Developer

Some rooms definitely need to be refined. That would be an interesting idea but might not be as intuitive to control. I’m looking at ways to implement controller support so hearing ideas like this is really useful. Thanks for playing

Really nice game.  The art is amazing and I love the color palette.  You also did a really good game with level design and the game mechanics are all solid.

Developer

Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it

Very cool concept and nice looking and sounding game. The platforming is quite difficult at some points, but also entertaining. I ran into a bug where the player kept moving right and nothing I did stopped him so I had to restart the game (it happened at the beginning of a level, so as I passed through a door).

Developer

I think that bug is from clicking outside the window when your not in full screen. That’s the only way I’ve had it replicated. Not too sure if I can fix that but I appreciate you letting me know. Thanks for the feedback!

Great use of all constraints. Feels very natural and intuitive. Love the slow easing of the difficulty.

Developer

Thanks! I’ve had issues with games being too hard before so it’s nice to hear that

Very nifty little metroidvania!  The rocket jump mechanic feels great to execute but can be just a little tricky sometimes.  The art and color palette are amazing and combined with the music creates a very serine atmosphere.  Really great job!

Developer

Thank you! Happy to hear the music suits it :)

Rockey jump, how fun !!! :D Though i could figure out the stick grenade weapon to get back up, idk :(.

Very nice looking game and good level design too :)

Developer

Thank you! Did you try put down three grenades in the same spot? That should get you up there

oh i tried like multiple things and at one point i just jumped slithly so i though it would be enough X3

I really really like the way you used very simple visuals, with a very restricted color palette, and it still works. Visually, this is my favourite game so far, congrats!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! It makes me really happy to hear that. You’re game is at the top of my list to play, it looks so good.

Really fun, nice rocket jump mechanic!

Developer

Thank you!

Beautiful work :)

I had a hard time figuring out how to use the gun but after that it was smooth for me . The level design is top notch with the art and music! :) amazing job!

Developer

Thank you! I feel I struggle with level design so I’m happy to hear you liked it.

Really nice, good visuals. Took me some time to understand about the rocket launcher, but I liked it.

Developer

Thank you! It’s hard to explain things in a small resolution but glad you got it

Submitted(+1)

Really liked it but I got stuck at a door near the second new item I believe ? So I did not had the courage to continue it. But that was awesome nonetheless, I could really see it being speedrun if the rocket, grenade launcher and doors were more consistent that is. But still that game was really impressive! There was so much content in there. I should take note out of you in that department.

Developer

Thank you! I’m glad you liked it. I fixed that bug with the door as it was cutting off the boss battle so thanks for letting me know. It’s hard to make it more consistent right now I think cause of the resolution but that’s part of the fin as well.

The challenge is great. Overall, I think the killer for me is the controls. There is just so much to control once you get the rocket jump, and my hands keep moving around the keyboard. You can use WASD to control the character, and you can use space to jump, but the controls don't feel close enough when controlling with a keyboard.

I dunno. Maybe it's better with a gamepad.

Developer(+1)

Unfortunately there is no support for a game pad yet. Would like to do that though. If the keys are too spread out you can use w to jump instead, or you can use the arrow keys and up arrow to jump. I understand it can be tough though. Thank you for the comment

Submitted(+1)

Oh up arrow. I'll give that a try. I really enjoyed the aesthetic and the Metroid style gameplay
