I enjoyed the art and music as well.  I got wreaked by bees ;P.  Only criticism would probably making the level selection more clear, as I think I cycled though stages twice before realizing I needed to click on it.

I thought this was a very charming and fun game! I kept thinking of this as “Super Mario with a sword”. The player controls felt right, the levels were laid out in a very clear manner, and the art and sounds were great (I especially enjoyed the sword swipe and it’s sound effect… can’t really explain why, but I loved swinging that sword!)

A few things nagged at me, though.

Before getting to the levels, the game menus and level select maps all use the mouse. That’s not an issue, per say, but given the main chunk of the game doesn’t use the mouse, having to switch back to it for menu navigation is a bit jarring. I feel the menus and the level select maps should have had keyboard controls like the levels do.

As much as I love that sword swipe, I think the hitbox for it should be a hair bigger… especially in the downward direction. The little spider(?) enemies in the first world are almost all on these very short ledges and, while I may be swinging my little heart out while jumping over to those ledges, more often than not those spider things ding me and I loose a heart. I felt that if I could just attack downward they wouldn’t be as big of an issue. I totally am fine with challenge, and I’ll be the first to suggest that I just suck at playing games, but, given the tight resolution, I don’t always get to see the entire ledge these things are on, so I don’t always get a good sense of the best time to jump, so, my only chance would be to kill them before I land.

Beyond those, honestly very minor issues from my perspective, this was a wonderful game! Loved the Bee boss too!!

Nice and cute game.
Platform mechanics are well done and feel smooth, background changes give a sense of change, but is not enough, further levels feel repetitive also is hard to know where to land because of the screen size, sometimes you just jump hoping to fall in a platform and not die.

As others said it will be better to use keyboard only to restart the level when you die instead using the mouse.

It's a cute platformer, I played all the way through.

Unfortunately the level design leaves a lot to be desired, the game never really introduces any mechanics (except moving platforms which are barely used at all) which leads to the stages being basically the same all the way through. The only stage I really remember is the vertical one right at the end, so I think it would have been a good idea to try doing some other stages that change the level structure a bit.

The combat is unsatisfying because it lacks any sort of timing of other skill-based element. This is particularly harmful because combat is really the only thing to do other than platforming. It would have helped a lot to at least introduce some enemies with different movement patterns throughout the game.

The bosses are a nice addition though the second one did feel a bit unfair, it took me a few deaths to figure out how to avoid the downwards attack.

It also would have been nice to be able to make the camera peek up or down moving the arrows since there were a few times I had to make a jump without having any idea what was below me (occasionally resulting in me landing right on an enemy or dying).

Other than that I found it a bit obnoxious to have to switch to using the mouse to navigate the menu every time i died.

Sorry if this comes off a bit critical, as I said I did beat the game and I found it pretty enjoyable.

So cute!  Really nice art, love the map screens.  Solid controls, nice camera (this can be tricky in such a small res!).  I couldn't beat the first boss, so I don't know what the other levels were like :(

This game is adorable, and I love the music so much. Made me nostalgic for my old DS games!

My two complaints:

In the map, it was a little hard to distinguish between cleared levels and the current level some times

And the first boss didn't feel great to fight. Walking in, not expecting a boss fight and then getting that sweet boss music, surprised me and I loved it! But I couldn't tell if hitting the boss was doing anything, and I expected the bees to die to my sword strike like earlier in the level.

Aside from that, you did a really good job at making the game look and feel really nice, as well as making that low resolution seem arbitrary! Excellent game :)

At first I thought the attack not having any kind of cooldown would be overpowered but it turned out to be pretty fun just button mashing.

I liked the few moments where you had to make a leap of faith, where there was literally nowhere else to go forcing the player into jumping off. However in at least one of those situations if the player walked off instead of jumping they might think it's unfair.

For the first boss fight my first attempt I literally just tried to button mash it to death. It was kind of hard to tell if there was any kind of damage cooldown but I assume there was. I also tried to attack the bees initially because I assumed they were like the normal enemies.

For the second boss fight I spent my first several tries assuming that I had to stay on the upper platforms because of the thing on the ground, which got me killed quite a lot, especially after killing one of the side eyes.

I really liked the art and music.

The only problem I see are the hitboxes. There are times enemies hit me that shouldn't (for example the bees). Maybe if they were a little smaller it would feel better.

But overall a very nice game!

This game has the whole package, bright colored pixel art, characters that stand out, fun level design, fun sword and jumping mechanics.  The music is really great too!  I downloaded this game so I could try to beat it later, but I got to world 2.  Nice work!

Very well done, the player controller is very dynamic, I’d be interested to see how you managed to do that!

Things I would have liked to see more of:

  • some sort of “bounce” effect when I get hit by an enemy, or maybe just blinking, because I didn’t really notice it enough
  • a “deadzone” around the player so that the camera doesn’t start moving as soon as the player moves, especially when jumping. There’s a pretty good example of what I mean here (and actually a lot of other good examples).

All in all, a very good entry!

for control i just made easy code which is usually used for platformer games, example: 

if button "left" do 

//go left 

else if button "right" do 

//go right 

etc. 

but I'm glad a lot of people like it :D

Absolutely outstanding job!  The controls feel nice and tight, the camera movement isn't jarring when jumping which is something I've been seeing a lot so far.  The graphics are amazing for this resolution,  the colors are perfect and everything looks just right.  Also great job on the music!  This truly feels like a polished game, I'll be coming back to play more!!!!
