Very good game. I included it in my LOWREZJAM compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :)

Developer

Thanks for playing the game :-)

Although the latest versions is already 128x64 and with a lot of improvements since the game jam.

I really like the one-bit aesthetic of this game! The 1D building was interesting too, though I would have liked if it was a little easier to navigate around. Maybe I just build too much :P

Really nicely done though!

I wasn't sure how a 1bit, 1 dimensional Sim City type thing would work, but it's  like this! This is really neat, and well executed! Well done!

Took me awhile to understand the concept but once it clicked it was fun. The aesthetics are simple but give a lot of character to the game. Nicely done!

I enjoyed this and really love what you've done with extra limitations! I love the arduboy and this is a great example of the creativity it can promote. Really done well with the graphics and particularly the audion to convey a very clear game! Well done!

SOOOOOO cooool game. I love the art style. Very good job

Your city builder is a little more solid than mine haha :D

good job!

Developer

I guess that having to handle a single dimension makes it easier to implement :-)

I enjoyed your city builder quite a lot and you did a good job in packing building textures in such a limited resolution, but I only had 1 bit available for colors.

Very clever way to implement a city sim in this restricted context!

Just a bit lost at the begining with the controls.

Very cool! Congrats!

Managed to fill up all the space, and make more money than I was spending ( if only that was always the case! )

Only gripe was that I had to keep pressing the left/right arrows to move, rather than hold them.. though I was silly and decided to see how large the play area was to begin with!

Developer

Fixing the movement by allowing the player to keep the R/L button pressed was the second thing I fixed after the jam: https://github.com/renato-grottesi/arduboy/commit/1d7ecf7cc63a259983ecdd374d531c51e0453ed3

I'm thinking of perhaps increase the speed to 2 pixels/s when the button has been kept hold more than 2 seconds and to 4 pixels/s after 5 seconds to make it less painful.  And I'll implement another suggestion about double clicking R/L to move to the next free spot to build.

Thanks a lot for playing and for the feedback! :-)

Very cool game! The aesthetic is top-notch, and the design of the game was creative, and more complex than you might think at first glance. Good job!

The style is flawless to this jam.  I would have never thought of a city simulator in one dimension! Very original :)

I really liked the angle you took for this city builder. The use of minimal screen real estate is top notch seriously. Controls were intuitive and so was building selection. Gameplay progression could have been a little faster though.

Developer

I did some last minute tweaking before the release to make the progression faster, but I agree that it has a lot of space for improvement :-)

Thanks for playing!

Really like the graphics!  I like the sense of progression too as you unlock new structures to build.  Nice job friend!

I love the 1-bit look!
The idea of a one dimension sim is cool and works pretty well

Cool little sim. I like the art style. I would suggest to have the left/right movement just snap to the next available spot or existing building. Also don't allow to build the same building over the top of an existing one and waste resources. Do you like your arduboy?

Developer(+1)

I will definitively implement the code to prevent building on top of other buildings :-)

Thanks for the feedback about snapping the movement to the next building! I will implement it as a double click of the right and left buttons, so that it would still be possible to move around. I'm also planning to implement continuous movement if the player keeps them pressed.

I really love my arduboy! Making games for it is challenging and there are hundreds of high quality free games available.

i had problems with the arrows input but it's really good idea !

Was it difficult to understand that the arrows on the top indicates where the current building would be built, or did you encounter a bug?

i think it's a bug, couldn't move camera and work 1 time on 2 for building input.
It might come from my computer ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
