happy to feature this in my video!

OMG, thank you sooo much! Honored to be included among such awesome games. Thank you again

i love the presentation and the idea is really cute, I can agree with the rng problems but I think it’s still fun to throw the dice and hope it all lands in a fun spot so I didn’t mind haha

Nice little puzzle game! Agreed with the other commenters about the RNG but liked the game overall.

I had a nice time with this game! The mechanics seemed a little weird at first, but after I fully understood what's happening, I had fun! The randomness could be improved, for sure but still a nice concept!

I've finished the game. I liked the art of the game. I wish it was able to be rendered at a higher resolution. I also really like how the controls are presented as they're needed. Also the icons over those things that kill you is even though it isn't needed a nice touch. What also stood out to me is the main special mechanic. The dice throwing hand. I really liked the animations on that thing but it was a bit too slow a its thing. If you died because of the dice platforms last try and just want to retry it can get annoying waiting for the hand and the dice to get to their position. As at first it wasn't clear that the dice stopped moving after a time I often tried jumping onto the dice while they're moving which is near impossible with the controls as your jump isn't that high. The jump would instantly feel fairer if it was clearer that the dice stop after a time. In the end I've got to say that playing this game was pretty fun but also frustrating.

(Also, is the music supposed to fade out after the first level? I'm on firefox and you've said that there are issues on firefox. As this is the only issue I would really classify as bug that you haven't listed I either think it's a problem with firefox or it's intentionally)

As you're using Godot I can give you a fix for the player playing the "walk"-animation while jumping. If you are using

move_and_slide(velocity, Vector2.UP) # The Vector2.UP is needed for is_on_floor()

You could do something like this within the place where you check if you want to play the walk animation

if is_on_floor():
    pass # Play walk animation
else:
    pass # Play jump/fall animation

Thank you for the detailed review,  it is greatly appreciated. Sadly those audio bugs are present in both chrome and firefox.  However, firefox for whatever reason also has trouble spawning all the dice on any given level. Thank you so much for the godot code as well.

Love the intensity of the hand when it is trying to roll :D
But as others have mentioned, the use of RNG on this one is pretty difficult.
Just trying to roll and re-roll hoping to get the dice in a good position.

But do like the underlying idea, the hand-drawn art are also pretty endearing.
Would definitely play this again if updated, congrats on finishing the jam!

This was pretty fun and felt very nicely polished! I really like the mechanic of randomized platforms. I, however, feel that the nature of randomness does not work well with the puzzle platformer theme that it seems to desire. I like the motion of jumping from platform to platform, especially while moving, but with the character controller being that slightly slippery(which felt pretty good), it was hard to control finely. If you were to continue this I would recommend expanding on the platformer part of your gameplay as that was really strong and adding more powerups and mechanics that let you interact with the dice directly.

This was a nice little puzzle randomized situation platformer.  Nice selection of music it fits the theme nicely.  It was quite challenging and I died a lot.  But never one to be defeated, I pushed through.  If I had to make a suggestion it would be to make it so the player stops when the land on the platform.  Often times I would get catapulted right off the platform the moment I landed on it.  This means the best strategy is to reroll until you get a still and optimally placed platform.  On a side note the character sprite is very nice.

Phew! After a lot of rolling and re-rolling I *finally* got through all 8 levels. At first I thought the extreme rng would be frustrating, but as I started playing the game I found myself on the edge of my seat waiting for each next roll! I also thought the level design did excellent at introducing new mechanics and ramping up the difficulty appropriately. Great job <3

Developer

thank you so much i am glad you ended up enjoying it.

I think the concept is great, I made something similar for a different game jam a while back. But the character controller needs to be more adaptable. It can hardly jump, it needs momentum to jump higher (which you often can't get because if you go backwards you'll hit the bell, losing your good roll), and the lack of adaptability makes it so that a person could, like me, reroll basically 20 times to get a good platform (of course watching the entire roll animation each time) and then when you finally get a good roll it turns out the die is a pixel too high, and you have to reroll again. I wish I could've beaten level 3, the first die level, but the RNG was not in my favor. In all fairness it could have been my browser being slow, as my computer is old. The game may have been much snappier than I noticed if my browser was faster. But now for what I liked. I liked the music being timed with the roll animation, I liked the music in general, and I liked how the first two levels slowly worked up in difficulty. I also appreciated that the art wasn't pixel art. I definately liked the hand shaking when rolling the dice, even if I wish it was shorter. Overall, an amazing concept that just needed more than 48 hours to balance, or maybe a downloadable version.

thank you for your feedback, it is very valuable for me and i greatly appreciate you taking the time to write a good sized review.

Nice game. I think you have a nice idea and concept here, it just needs tweaking. I feel like the randomness of the dice should be more controlled. Either their positions, or the areas they can land on. Using the same mechanic you could make some interesting puzzle levels. Now, if you're unlucky... You could be stuck for hours in a level. And that doesn't sound too appealing.

The graphics give a unique feel to the game, and the movement feels solid. You chose fitting music to the game as well.

Good job!

Developer(+1)

thank you very much for your review. Yes the tweaking starts this week, i think i have some nice solutions in place to keep the randomness while making it reliably fun.

Good graphic style, funny idea, it was fun, I approve.

pretty cool concept and cute art. good stuff for a game jam.

something i would improve is the rolling dice, it's sometimes pretty annoying when it keeps placed in the wrong position. i would rather put them in a fixed point but has a limited stand time. what you think?

control is nice. maybe it's just me, i prefer the player has no slippery just like Celeste

Developer

Haha when you are right you are right, I've been working on puzzles for the expanded version with some dice that do just that! I am glad you like the art, and i agree that there are problems with the dice rng, and I am hard at work improving it. Thank you very much for the review!

Really cute art and good music. Has some really good ideas. Really game jam worthy.

A poor knight that staring into a 3-dimensional abyss with a 3d human hand... I kinda want to end his suffering +)
Overall I loved the game. I feel like it needs something more... Like a double jump + death traps? The first one (jumps) is for better control, and the second (traps) is to compensate for the first one. It would fit perfectly.

Also, I feel like those hands could be some kind of game bosses in the end)) But for boss-fight you need fight mechanics, so just ignore what I said... Just fantasies about the lore of this game))

I enjoyed playing it. Thank you!

Developer

lolz everyone has lore ideas for the giant hand. Thank you for reviewing, but also hehe maybe there is a boss fight coming in the expanded version

Really interesting concept !

The visuals looks neat & the music fit really nicely with the ambiance of the game.

The random position of the dices make for an interesting challenge but the jump could be a bit stronger/higher to compose with it. (most time you cant reach the dices & have to re-roll several times)

The movement also felt a bit zippy for a platformer but still playable.

If you want to iterate on the game you could introduce new mechanics in the leves as you go : moving enemies , several dice zones by levels, having to climb up a level with one big zone & several bells.
That could add some more challenge as the levels start feeling a bit repetitive a bit fast right now.

All in all it's a pretty solid entry with potential. Good job :)

Developer

Thank you for the detailed review. As far as the iteration goes, haha you basically nailed several of the concepts I am introducing. Have a great day, i really enjoyed your game.

The random position of the dice makes it a bit hard to get the right positioning of platforms but other than that, Good game :D

Its a nice idea for the game with some good visuals!

Solid game!

Thematically I love the idea of summoning a giant ambivalent hand to chuck some dice around, it's a great idea. As you've mentioned, I think having presets is a good idea and gives you some space to think of situations where you need to change to particular presets at particlar times - like switching between a preset that blocks enemy projectiles and one that lets you jump across a gap or something like that.  Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

alright
i think it is in your best interest for me to be honest about this review
i did not find the game that enjoyable
as to give you an idea of how it went: i needed 6 whole minutes just to get through the second level lmao.
that being said, the idea for what you wanted to do is quite creative

your game has a very similar issue to mine, the randomness of the die makes the game more frustrating because you rely on the die to give you a specific value (or in your case position) in order to be able to progress. this leads to a lot of time spent bruteforcing the value you want. meanwhile i have a solution for that for my game waiting to be implemented, but i don't quite know how i would fix yours (or maybe i do? keep reading to find out). the huge problem is that it's not only one die that your game relies on, it's multiple. so if there's a probability of one die landing in the correct place (= p), the probability for all the dice to do so is more or less p to the power of the amount of dice (p^dicecount).

now to the other stuff
the art is nice, not great, not terrible
sound effects are there, though the bell sound effect was a bit weird
your level design is definitely a lot better than mine, mostly because you actually have some levels lmao.
where did you find that music tho cos it sounds pretty good?
i played this game with headphones on, so i noticed something peculiar
the music only plays on the left ear, and the sound effects on the right?
my right ear felt quite lonely
i recommend having the music keep playing independently of the level you're in, or just making the levels longer so that the music is not constantly restarted.
i also noticed a weird bug: i think when you jump and then collect a key the music just stops playing.
also in the first level once you pick the key up the music becomes significantly quieter.

i think you should make the bell more interactive, and allow the player to look into the future before they make a decision to ring the bell in the way they're about to. making it entirely skill based instead of random. perhaps you could have the dice roll for a length of time the player decides? and the player can scroll through the future positions the dice will be in and then pick at what time they want them to stop.

anyway, nice concept, a bit frustrating to play.
nonetheless, it's a gamejam so
good job!

Developer

Thank you very much for the honest review. They are always appreciated. Yeah there were a number of audio bugs with the web build that i never figured out. I was making the game in Godot after not using Godot since December of last year which as it turns out is not a great idea on a time crunch. I like how you addressed the gameplay issues in my game, and i have a solution that I am planning to implement involving dice presets that all work rather than total rng, and the random element will be which of those presets gets used. I thank you again for your review. Ps the music if by Nu Alkemi$t and was accessed and licensed via soundstripe.
