How does your game fit the theme?
We interpreted the theme of Joined Together as independent objects that, when connected, take a different meaning and interpretation. In Starsnap, you take photos to isolate shooting stars, which then you connect to create constellations for points. With the randomizing of stars, objects around, and different names, no constellation is ever the same, so each group of stars, joined together, are unique. At the end of the game, you have your very own sky made of joined constellations, that’s uniquely yours to export and share with others! Show us your own sky and wallpapers in the comments! ✨

Very chill and relaxing game. I could see having a lot of fun building up skies or letting them form themselves. It would be interesting to have different photo shapes (wider but shorter or vis-versa) or something to change up the kind of star clusters I would be getting. Had a lovely time with your game, thank you.

Developer

We're glad you and others have been enjoying it too! And thanks for the suggestions. It'd certainly be interesting! 🌟

Awesome presentation!

A very relaxing game. A bit like a child's game, imagining different things in the clouds. I tried to wait a little longer in order to photograph as many stars as possible and draw something conscious.

A bit of feedback:

You can let the player name the constellations, if they really draw something conscious.

It would also be nice to add the ability to remove the line from the mouse when I started drawing it (I just found the best way to put the line, but I can't cancel).

Wonderful suggestion.

P.S. I have some stars made of stars, a hammer, a tripod, open envelope and something abstract :D

Developer(+1)

Thanks, and those are some good ideas and feedback! We worked with what we could during the two day development period, but we'd certainly experiment more with it if we come back to this project at some point. We do believe there's more untapped potential on it. Thanks a lot for the nice comments once again! 😊

Submitted(+2)

I am amazed how did you guys do this in 48 hours :o The presentation is top notch. The music compliment the relaxing gameplay very well :D

The only negative thing i can say is after some time it gets a bit repetitve. Maybe adding diffrent events like meteor showers , space ships appearing and disappearing etc. can make the game more interesting.

Overall beatiful art and original idea GREAT WORK :D

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the comments and the feedback! While we did what we could within the time limit, it's always good to brainstorm for additions and changes in the case we update our games.

Speaking of, we do have "space ships" appearing and disappearing. Well, literally one duck-UFO and one space shuttle, but there are a lot of other objects to photograph around. Wouldn't that be what you meant, or were you thinking about some different kind of mechanics?

Regardless, thanks again for the kind words! 👍

Submitted(+1)

I was thinking diffrent like a big space ship flys off the screen leaving smoke trails or an alien ship beams up an astroid. That kind of interesting stuff that you want to take a picture of :D

One of the best games I've seen submitted, really clever way to use the theme.

The presentation on this is outstanding, this does not look like something that should've been possible in only 48 hours, outstanding job!

The wallpaper download thing is a brilliant little add-on.

5 stars all around from me.

Hey, thanks a lot for sharing such nice words and the wallpaper! Glad to see that you captured quite a few objects on your photos, including our elusive duck! 🦆

Submitted(+1)

I loved the duck, he's my favourite! as soon as I saw him I knew I needed to snap him haha

incredible job! holy cabooses this was so beautiful. the names of the constellations were so creative and fun as well. i could see playing this as a way to wind down after a long. so visually stunning. can't say enough good things about it.

(+3)

i want to keep playing just to see all the ridiculous constellation names; favorite so far is 'steampunkish platypus'. how did you guys create the name generator? did you have a pre-created word bank? i'm not sure if i'm asking that correctly

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Glad that you enjoyed it! As for the word bank, it was rather simple. Whenever one of the team had to wait for someone else to finish their job, we would start adding words to a Google Sheets list and then import that to our generator. Each constellation consists of a first name and a last name, and we wrote 164 of each, which means that there's 26,896 different possible names. Even better, there's a chance that, at the end of the name, the sky gets 2 first names, for a grand total of 4,410,944 possible skies!

Even better, the way we structured, neither first nor last name need to be solely of one word, so we tried to add some funny ones on the mix.

Playing with the generator just now, I got the I can't believe it's not Wooly Bunny Sky, Super Duper Best Buddy Clams Sky and 5-Stars Cute but Mean Vampire Sky. I could come up with these all day.

I hope that answered your question, and we're glad you enjoyed that bit of the game as much as we did! 🌌

The mechanics are very well integrated in the fantasy of the game and those visuals are just so good 😲

The polish is exceptional, even up to the page of the game!

This is truly an outstanding game 👏👏👏

Developer(+3)

We have a great time adding those polish details here and there, even on the website. The first impression is very important to us! Thanks a lot for the comment! 👍

Submitted(+2)

Such a wonderful idea and well executed! If you work on this more in the future, it'd be great to make the differences between the stars more mechanically meaningful. But wonderful job!

Developer(+2)

Thanks for the feedback! We certainly could have experimented more in that area. We already did some compromises to make it to the deadline, but it's still something to put on the table if we do update the game afterwards. 🌟

Submitted(+2)

Very beautiful game. At first, I was confused what the objective was until I realized this was meant to be a peaceful, relaxing game. Nonetheless, the score system gives some incentive for more competitive players to keep playing, which is brilliant design. Perfect for all sorts of audiences!

Developer(+2)

Yep! Even when we wanted to make something more casual and relaxing, we still wanted to have a more traditional game loop. Letting the player get highscores felt like the way to go, rather than limiting the number of photos or putting a time limit, so anyone can take their time. Thanks for the compliments! 😊

Submitted(+2)

Everything about this is super professional!  Cool idea, relaxing and really cute aesthetic.  Well done!

Developer(+2)

Love to hear that, thanks! People are telling us it's relaxing and cute, which was our goal, so guess it was achieved. Thanks again for taking it for a spin! 👍

Submitted(+2)

Unbelivably polished for 48 hours, I literally forgot this was a jam game as I was playing it. Amazing job, very cool idea, very cool application of the theme, just great job overall.

Developer(+3)

We crunched so much on it that those 48 hours certainly felt a lot longer. But seeing people liking it made it all worth it! Thanks a lot for playing it and for the nice comment! Cheers! 🥂

Very interesting game concept!  Nice job!

Developer(+1)

Woo, thanks!! 🎉

Excellent, relaxing game! Brilliant graphics and creative interpretation of the theme!

Developer(+1)

Found it fitting that Chill found it relaxing. Ah well, thanks a lot! That was very thoughtful! 😊

I have absolutely no words, this game is astonishingly wonderful!

What sold me is the delicate craft of making every single detail beautiful - from the gorgeous game page (even the custom cursor was really well designed!), to the actual game: The initial cutscene is charming and the option to save your own created galaxy as a background is a genius idea!

By the way, such a creative idea and implementation of the theme! Connecting stars and catching critters as a deco feels really satisfying! The gameplay also connects every experience so well together! This is what it means to think outside of the box and execute it just right, I haven't got anything to complain about!

I really admire you people as a team, wonderful job. Definitely goes to my top 20 favorites!

Developer(+2)

We stand humbled by the kind words of the Mad Dog of Shimano.

Thanks a lot for quite an extended praise! We're mostly used to three day jams, so cramming this one up was quite a different experience. Even now we're trying to see what else we can change on the game page, in social media and around, since we do enjoy polishing up our presentation whenever possible!

Thanks for lifting our spirits this high! And if you happened to save one of your creations, we'd love it if you could show it to us! 😀

Submitted(+2)

Very beautiful game!! Everything is polished. The mechanics is cool.  ~ Please check my entry, when you get time.

Developer(+2)

Thanks for giving it a shot! We tried to polished it up right to the last minute! 💪

Submitted(+2)

Almost didn't see the start button, glad i played, this game is wonderful, I could keep going forever. It was so cool, loved it, nice job

Developer(+1)

Well, it's good that you saw it. That would have been a very short playthrough otherwise! We'll take that as feedback and discuss if we can do better in that readability aspect. Anyhow, thanks a lot for playing it that much!

(+2)

So well made, beautiful and relaxing. Amazing work!

Developer(+1)

We'll take those words to heart, thanks a lot! 💖

Submitted(+2)

Really chill game presented beautifully. I love the wallpaper export idea too!

Developer(+2)

We thought it'd be a fun idea early on in development, so we're enjoying seeing people sharing their wallpapers with us! If you saved yours, it'd be great if you'd show it to us too! 😁

Submitted(+2)

Beautiful and super calming! A really original idea that was implemented almost perfectly, great job! :D

Developer(+1)

It's one of our most zen experiences to date! We could do with more calm experiences now and then. Thanks for giving it a try!

Submitted(+2)

This is really wonderful.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! 👋

Submitted(+2)

Wow this is awesome, really polished and well done. I LOVE that you can download the wallpaper of the stars you make at the end.

I like the use of Joined Together as joining stars together, and you've executed that excellently.

I think my only critique would be that a volume bar would be nice! The music and sound design is lovely but is a bit loud by default for me!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! When it comes to the sound, we tried to compromise the slider situation which we didn't have much time to implement by making it so the button toggles from loud to not-as-lout to mute. Yet, I think it might still be a bit too loud for some people.

Other than that, we're happy to hear you liked the feature! If you happened to save one around and you don't mind, we'd love it if you'd like to share your creation with us! 🌌
