Nice Game and very impressed by your custom "engine".

Developer

Thank you for playing! We're thrilled we managed to impress you!

I'm now playing this. The controls feel really smooth! It's obvious there was a lot of effort behind this game. Great work!

Developer (1 edit)

Hi! Thank you for playing our game! Really happy that you liked it!

Submitted(+2)

That was really well done, short but sweet, it had great writing and a quite eerie atmosphere!

Developer

Wow! Thank you a lot for such kind words! We are happy you liked our game!

Submitted(+2)

Really wel done, especially if this is done in a custom engine. Some highlighting when an intractable item is near the cursor would have been nice though. But overall I really liked the gameplay and story

Developer

Thank you for feedback! It means a lot!

What a heartful experience, it really tugged on my emotional strings with a beautiful story to tell.

I have to particularly highlight the paintings, there's something hauntingly beautiful about them, it feels like a real painting I can touch! Very impressive overall, one of my favorites!

Developer(+2)

Thank you so much! We're both very grateful for you review! Especially the paintings comment!

Genuinely got goosebumps by the end.
Am I understanding this is done on a custom made engine too? That's very impressive. I've done custom frameworks before, but never for 3D. Very, very impressive stuff.
Only bug I encountered was sometimes the text cut off before the end of a sentence.
Amazing atmosphere, really cool story, all around brilliant.

Developer(+2)

Thank you so much for your feedback! Yes, it's a custom framework on C++ that I started developing a month ago. Shoutout to sokol renderer, although I think that at this point I could make this using just OpenGL. It's really not that much. No shadows, no full screen shaders, not optimized at all yet and there is still a lot to do to call it an engine. My next goal is to implement skeletal animations, because it's really hard to come up with 3D game ideas without involving animated characters

Submitted(+2)

Super, super impressive stuff. I've done a tiny bit of OpenGL (As in, rendered some triangles on a screen, made a simple shader). I'd love to give a 3D framework a crack sometime.

And yeah, I imagine skeletal animation is extremely far from trivial to implement, so that does make things tricky. Keep up the good stuff, it's really nice to see people are still making games "The hard way", as I think it's a really, really good way to understand what actually goes on under the hood, and that knowledge is useful even if you do end up using an existing engine. Not to mention, great for improving your programming skills.

Beautiful game ! Was bracing for some jumpscares waiting for me behind the doors, but it turned out very emotional and lovely. Also love the little animations on the texts. Keep up the good work ! ;)

Developer(+1)

Thank you!! Yeah, I think our game is looking too much like a horror

Submitted(+2)

Not a bad thing tho imo. I think it makes the game even more immersive

I thought this was going to be a horror game at first, but I was pleasantly surprised. This was very well done, and I enjoyed playing it through until the end! I was left wanting more. :)

Developer

Thank you so much!

Very cool overall feeling. Definitely gave off a creepy, horror vibe, but was glad that nothing popped out at me.

Developer

Thank you a lot!

Very well made with a nice story! Honestly would love to see it expanded.

Developer

Thank you! It's very nice to hear that you liked it this much!

An emotional story, and so well presented. Smooth gameplay and controls, loved it!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for a review! We are very happy you liked playing the game!

Great work capturing the lo-fi aesthetic of the PS1 era and the overall atmosphere was very well made. The overall story was a bit ambiguous to me but still this is a complete narrative experience that you managed to build in such a short time, well done!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing our game!

Great job, I really liked it.  For some reason I had to think of Cry of Fear while playing, even though it's something completely different - but in a good way! I feel like there is much left untold, so I'd be really interested in a continuation/expansion.

Developer

Thank you a lot!

Wow. Just wow. Absolutely beautiful and emotional. It sounds great. Looks great. Plays great. I think I'll remember this game for a long time and I have no notes at all on the game itself.

The only one tiny thing I'd say is that tone-wise, I do get that it's intended to be eerie but I was convinced it was horror to the point I was terrified of that first door and convinced that there would be zombies jump-scaring me for the whole first level. If it wasn't for a game jam I'd have probably not gone through with playing it (I am really not into horror if you can tell) but that would have been a massive shame as actually I loved it.

So yeah. It didn't effect my enjoyment once I got playing - just my thoughts.

Still though, astounding game. Fantastic work.

Developer(+1)

Well, we’re so happy you played and enjoyed our game! Regarding your notes - when we were developing the plot, we drew inspiration from games like Silent Hill, What Remains of Edith Finch, and Layers of Fear. Those horrory vibes were intentional, but we also wanted to emphasize strong emotional tones. We really aimed to capture the terrifying and dramatic nature of dementia and how it distorts one’s perception of the world.

Thank you so much for your wonderful review! It means a lot to us that the game had such an impact on you.

Wonderful story. The music was beautiful, and the art was well done. Actually brought a tear to my eye lol

Developer

Thank you so much!

There is so much to like about this. It's so eerie. The art style is a very good choice it fits really well with what you're going for.

A little quality of life tip: allow the player to open the settings menu after they entered the game, I wanted to change the mouse sensitivity and volume after starting the game.

Great submission!

Developer(+2)

Thank you for your feedback! You can open menu pressing Tab! Esc button is not working well in browsers, so we use Tab.
