Controls are bit confusing, I also found a bug where you can spam the blink and then you wont regen AP on the next turn xD. Gameplay wise it’s fun and easy to pick up

Merry Christmas to all GameOff 2022 competitors! Here's mine gameplay of Deus Ex Machina

I didn't managed to finish it yet and I know that there is a walkthrough! This is an impressive tactical game and it is very fun to play

This was fun. I liked that the first two levels acted as somewhat of a tutorial. The second level really shows how to use the mind blast effectively. The graphics were great too. This is an impressive submission for just a month of work. Good job!

This was fun!  Here's my feedback:

Sometimes the controls didn't really work, so I had to end the turn sooner than I wanted to. The blue text is also very hard to read on the black background. The Escpape key shouldn't really be used because it closes the full screen mode in most browsers. Finally, the positions (the green and red tiles) were working most the time, but not always unfortunately.

But those are some small points that I bet with a bit of polish could improve the game a lot! Nice entry :)

Developer

Hey glad you liked it! Thnx for the feedback! Sadly some of the bugs had to stay in due to time limitations. I didn’t think of ESC closing the game honestly as I rarely build for WebGL. Good point!

Great art style, nice animations and modelling, good puzzle design. All-in-all a really solid entry. Well done.

Developer

Hey! Glad you liked it!

Controls can be a bit confusing at times but overall good game

Good cyberpunk background turn-based strategy game, the graphics and audio are pretty good as well! The only thing I find it a bit inconvenient is that I can't simply click other actions to swap the action I want to take, which is I forgot I can press ESC key to cancel until I beat the game and looked up for instructions again. Anyway, good entry!

Developer(+1)

Hey! Glad you liked and that you put the effort to beat it!

I really dig the aesthetic and the models and animation are really great! It feels like playing a futuristic version of that holographic chess game from star wars. A lot of fun and I really liked the puzzles. I like to take my time with games like this so although I know the player is encouraged to play quickly, I'm glad it didn't punish me for taking my time.

It took a bit to understand how to use the different actions at first. It wasn't clear when to click and where but I got the hang of it after a few deaths. Maybe if there was more highlighting of where the action would be applied? Like, when the mouse is not in a valid position, nothing is really shown... so it's sometimes not clear that you're supposed to select something. This got a little confusing when interacting with the computer requires a keypress of E.

I think what really got me is that sometimes you can't hover over a specific spot unless you rotate the camera into another position. That said, once I got that, things started to click.

I liked the isometric perspective and I _think_ the camera is setup to be orthogonal, right? It's interesting because when I read that right mouse rotates the camera, I thought it was a 45 degree rotation and was surprised it was a full control rotation. I feel like the angles start to get a little strange as you rotate but with the post-processing effects and the art direction of the game, it kinda works. It looks neat and I like how the stars (?) are stationary while you rotate.

I really liked the keyboard shortcuts! Honestly, if there were more keyboard shortcuts like.. for selecting where you're going to move or attack via arrow keys, that would be neat.

The other thing I should note is that the game runs a little slow on my laptop which just has integrated graphics. I watched the youtube video you posted and it looked smooth but it's just a little slower on my laptop. If there were adjustable graphic settings, that would be cool although playing it at a smaller size did help.

Those are just small nitpicks, obviously this was a game jam so it's all understandable. Nice work!

Developer

Hey! Thank you for the extensive review and feedback!

The camera is orthographic indeed. Truth is that we didn’t optimize for GPU since this would need some time from our part that could be used in adding more stuff to the game. A lot of the things you mentioned are like that due to the game’s scope being for a game jam. We will definitely think on those and improve upon them if we continue working on the game after the jam.

loved the turn-based style and theme interpretation. very unique game! great work!!

Developer

Thank you very much! :)

for some reason clicking on positions really often doesn't work :/ I liked the game, found it becoming hard very fast but t's ok, the tough controls were really crippling my experience tbh

Developer(+1)

Sorry to hear that, we are aware of the problems you talked about, but we don't want to touch the game after submission cause it wouldn't be fair to others.

Submitted

yeah I have a similar issue on my game (though less game breaking, it just takes ages to do some stuff), it's disheartening :c I am also sad because the little I could enjoy of yours was actually good!

Submitted(+2)

Nice entry! Cool graphics, mechanics, animations and sounds,  have some problems to get in front of the enemys, maybe a rotation option would be nice, good job!

Developer(+1)

Hey thanks for the kind words! You can move the camera using WASD and rotate it to get a better view of the battle by holding down the right mouse button and dragging!

Submitted(+2)

Amazing entry, this is one of my favorites of this jam, the puzzles are few but well thought out and difficult enough,  getting the most out of each ability. The gameplay feels so fast-paced,  even being a turn-based game. Maybe it's the music, don't know. Kudos on a great entry!

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks! We r glad you liked it! Your words are inspiring!

Love that game. It’s so intense, great sounds also.

Developer

Thank you very much!

Really good game! I can see that you have put a lot of work in it.

The music is great. The art is pleasant and puzzle fun. It's a bit hard to grasp at first but nothing to crazy either. Maybe introduce each new skills as you go through the levels could help.

I encountered a bug in level 2 where my character was rotating in space after attacking one of the three remaining ennemy who was in "charge up" mode. I maybe did a double tap on an ability or something. You might be aware of it already but just in case.

Be proud of your work !

Really good art, music and ideas! I felt the controller a bit unconfortable, for the rest everything seems working pretty well

Developer(+1)

Sorry for the controls, we are aware that we could improve those but updating the game now would not be fair :) But thank you very much for your words, hope you had fun!

Submitted(+2)

I felt the controls are a bit clunky but the art and animations were amazing!

Developer

Thanks! Sorry to hear about the controls, we know how to fix those but we cannot since that would be unfair.

Submitted(+2)

Really good art/3Dmodels!

Had some troubles at the beginning because of the snipers but then I got the hang of it. The game is challenging and makes you think of every move. Realy good job on the level/game design!

Sometimes I wasn't able to click on the enemies with the mouse using the sword strike but maybe it was just me?

The background music is nice and doesn't bore. The sniper sounds are nice!

I finished the game in 9 minutes 20 seconds, 33 turns, 16 deaths

When I completed the game the music got stuck like a broken disco but other than that awesome game and really good job!

The only aspect that troubles me is the blink ability, I never found a good time to use it.

Overall really great job!  Love it

Developer

Hey there!

The fact that you put in the effort to finish it makes me really happy! I know it can be hard at times, but we wanted it to be a challenge for the players. I am glad you liked it!

I am aware of the two bugs you mention and i have already fixed them locally. They were very quick fixes. I didn’t want to update the project till the voting ends to fix those, as this would be cheating. They both come from the fact that i was on fire the last couple of days to finish the project and i didn’t have the time to actually correct those.

Glad you liked it and once more thank you very much for putting in the time and effort to finish it!
