A very enjoyable nicely polished game! Love the art style and the soundtrack. The strategy/tactics gameplay approach contained within pretty small level areas, and the way the challenge scales in later levels, is really well designed.

If yall continue working on this after (and I think you should) a level building tool would be super cool.

Developer(+1)

Hey thnx!

We really appreciate the fact that you liked our game! I am not sure what the future of this game will be yet, but i ll keep your suggestion in mind! It would definitely be a cool feature to have!

Cool tactics game (one of my favorite genres).  It was really smart how the first couple levels were designed to teach me how my abilities work without making me read about it. The low poly style looks great too!

Developer(+1)

Hey! I am glad you noticed that. It was exactly the purpose of those two levels.

Amazing game with a great setting. The soundtrack is the best in my opinion. What an absolute banger.

Developer(+1)

Music Composer here! Thank you very very much, I'm glad you liked the game and the soundtrack <3

Cool tactics game reminding me of XCOM. Controls were smooth.
Only downside is that I suck at this game apparently as I got stuck on level 3, I tried maybe 10 times but I never found out how to beat that level.

Well done game !

Developer

Hey thanks for playing!

The game was easy during most of the development, so I decided to turn the difficulty up a notch. It seems I over did it! So you are not alone on that :)

I will probably upload a walkthrough video showing the most optimal approach!

Hi!
Impressive work, it's a pretty solid idea and both visuals and music are really nice! I also like the cliche you decided to play on, although maybe I wish enemy's would have a balloon text with their announced attacks the first time they perform them.

I was sometimes confused by where I could blink on each round and where I would be visible to snipers, but still an enjoyable play, well done!

Just a question: why is the title Deus Ex Machina?

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for playing the game!

The text bubbles it was something we would like to do, but had to cut it due to time limitations. I was trying hard to ensure we don’t have major bugs till the deadline so we had to cut some things out.

The name has to do with the backstory we had in mind about the game, where the hero is an augmented human invading the building of an evil corporation that controls the world and is discriminating against the augmented. Kind of another cliché inside the game, hinting to the Deus Ex games.

Thanks for the explanation, it makes more sense to me now :)

And yeah, I definitely understand the problems of time limitations -one month runs out pretty fast! Still, great job!

Very interesting tactics game, I liked the graphics and human animations, look very solid. And the style of sci fi looks great! The graphics reminded me Deus Ex Go, so interesting to see such games made just in a month!

Thank you for playing the game!

Awesome art and music - gameplay was fun as well. The game does break if you spam space bar :) Great work team!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the kind words!

The bug you mention is something we didn’t have the time to fix in the end and during that period we prioritized things that could potentially be encountered more often.

Submitted(+1)

Don't worry, it didn't allow me to cheat past anything and is definitely not typical player behavior!

Submitted(+2)

Solid Submission! I really like some of the level settups. Usually when I play turn-based combat games, I get bored because the levels aren't interesting. But your game kept me interested the entire time! Great Job!

(also thx for playing my game and reporting that toxic guy :) I banned him and deleted his comment)

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much!

No worries about the toxic guy! We need to keep the community respectful and supportive!

Loved the aesthetics and the music. It is a bit hard to predict how the gas will behave sometimes.

I've also been stuck at times, not being able to attack close by enemies. Fun game though.

Developer

Thnx! Glad you liked it!

The bug you are talking about is something we are aware of, but had to leave it in due to time limitations as it can only be encountered under certain conditions that are rare to occur. I am sorry you had to deal with it!

Fun to play and great to look at!

Fun tactics game. Nicely implemented. My only beef was that some tiles were hard to select because they were behinid walls. Maybe that was intentional. Took me a minute to realize I had more action points than I assumed I would have, but after that it clicked. The description says the enemies will always telegraph their next attack, but that wasn't obvious to me in the gameplay.

Developer (3 edits) (+1)

Hey there!

Thank you for playing our game and giving us your feedback!

About the camera, it can be rotated by holding the right mouse button and dragging, so you can change the angle to actually see the tiles you are selecting. Also about the enemies telegraphing their moves, you need to hover over each enemy to see the attack description and the exact tiles he targets, or hold TAB to see all of the enemies targeted tiles for the next turn as written in the instructions!

About the action points, the game has an AP storage pool that can store up to 3 unspent action points for them to be used the next turn. I can see why this was unclear as I didn’t write this down in the instructions. Thank you very much for pointing this out! I am going to update the Instructions on the page to add that in!

I really enjoyed the style on show here, the visuals and audio are really nice. It gives me fights in tight spaces vibes, and I'm loving it!

Very good turn based strategy. I really like the character models and level design. Sometimes the game is really hard and that's just for the best

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you very much! Some levels are a bit to the hard side indeed. I am glad you liked it overall!

Submitted(+2)

I really like the models the characters, and the funny lines the enemies have when projecting their moves. This is like an xcom-style puzzle game and I love it.

Developer

Thank you! This is exactly what we were aiming for!

Cool style, and awesome music!
