Very cool game. An excellent job has been done. The game is well done work on the audio-visual components.

Submitted

Very polished in every way, cute graphics and overall enjoyable gameplay. If I could suggest anything, it would be nice to have some juicy animations for the UI, when clicking on cards and using them for example.

awesome game! the artwork is great, and the gameplay is engaging and has great replay value!  The mechanics is straightforward and gives a good learning curve, overall I enjoyed playing this and will be playing it again! congratulations! keep it up!

Developer

Thank you very much! We're glad to hear that :)

Submitted(+3)

wow!!! loved the theme and the graphics, and once I figured out how to play it it became very fun. and it also looks like you all had a lot of fun making this game, and it shows!!! that's a great one, for sure!

Developer

Thank you! :)

Wow the art style is very pretty! From start to finish the aesthetics are very nice and consistent throughout and additionally the good sound design complements it.  Gameplay wise, I think agree with some of the comments here that it's a little heavy on the RNG and sometimes it did feel that I am skipping through turns to wait until my crops will grow or until the right card appears.

Nevertheless, this is a great submission to the jam! Well done :)

Developer

Thank you! :) We agree that RNG is the game's biggest issue ^^

Hi there! This game is beautiful :). But Somehow I just got the 3 Cornfields (Fields where you can plant stuff) at the start and that was it. No new ones.. is this intended?

Developer

The cards you should use for planting are Acres, not Cornfields. They're given by RNG

Submitted

Yes thats what I ment mb, I was like at year 5 or something and only gotten 3 acres...

Developer

I think this might be a bug actually. You should receive on average 2-3 acre cards every 24 cards you draw.

Submitted(+1)

Yeah i thought so too, but had still fun planting the animals :)

Submitted(+1)

neat game, somehow I couldn't complete the corn challenge even though I harvested some

Developer

There are 5 quest goals. You need to complete them all :)

Submitted(+2)

Hi!

This is really an impressive submission, it looks and sounds great, the story is cute and well established, and the mechanics are fun!

I haven't managed to win the game, but I've only tried once so far.

I'd tend to agree with some of the previous comments on randomness -while it's true that I can decide to save some cards and discard others, I still felt that I had little agency over my progression -especially since farmable lands also appeared to arrive randomly, and I could only discard one card at a time.

Still, a very nice experience overall, nice job!

Developer

Thank you for playing and feedback! :D

This was great! At first I thought it was easy and then suddenly I lost... Tried again, now knowing the mechanics and while I did much better I sadly ended up losing again. The game loop is very rewarding. I think making most of the animations faster will improve the flow of the game, especially once you already know how everything works. I might've missed it but I didn't manage to see where the time limit for the bet was, both times I tried the ending caught me a bit off guard. Not sure if this is the case, but requiring specific tasks being done which depends on the random cards you get felt like my chances of succeeding were left to luck a bit. I get that you're supposed to manage your cards and field to get as many new cards as possible which increases your chances of drawing the cards you need but it still felt like it was on the verge of being too random.

All that said, the polish and the atmosphere of the game are great, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the game, excellent job, one of my favorites of the jam :)

Developer(+1)

Sorry for the late answer! To be honest, I oversaw it haha :)

Thank you for the extensive feedback! We agree that the RNG factor is the game's biggest issue. I like that you brought up that it's not clearly conveyed that you only have 4 years to complete the quests, we'll discuss how to improve upon that! All in all, thanks for playing and reviewing! :)

Submitted(+2)

Really nice vibe here, great artwork, impressive level of polish. I got the 10 strawberries just as Marty offered 60 gold for them for the first time! That was really lucky. Still, I didn't win the bet for the farm in the end, I couldn't seem to draw enough Acre cards, although I discarded every turn of the game! Ah well, that's a minor balance thing. I think you guys are well on your way to something nice here, and there's quite a bunch of places you could take it, things you could add, but I'll leave that in your capable hands for now.

Wait, did you really have 12 developers on this? Holy mackerel. How did you even coordinate that many folks?

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing! :)

Yup, we're 13 actually :O coordinating that was really quite challenging, especially since we've got people from literally all around the world haha :D

Submitted(+2)

I can't even imagine. Last jam I did was four people total, and it ended up pretty much total chaos.

Developer(+2)

Thanks for the review! GingaaBread was our incredible Scrum Master, and he managed the project, the people and the tasks. Without him, it would have been a disaster indeed!

Really fun game! I really like the character art especially <3

I think the only things I'd change would be a more hands-on tutorial, i.e. getting the user to complete the tasks  in the tutorial, rather than just reading, as it is a lot of info to read at the start! (Sorry that might not be the best explanation!)

Also sometimes the notifications all stacked up and it took a while for it to get through them all, maybe would be good to move them to right and stack up instead of in the center or something like that!

Overall it was fun and polished! I had fun playing it! :)

Developer

Yes those are good points! :) Thank you for playing!

What an incredible level of design and beauty for a game jam. I played through twice. This is about the most polished game in the entire jam. The music is FANTASTIC. The UI sound effects makes the game come alive. Every button, every season change, every card planted has a satisfying sound.  And the story is great too, though Perry is a jerk - just by all my stuff for full price you cheapskate :P

You can tell this was made by a professional team who knows what they are doing. This expanded = me purchasing on Steam.

I did run into a random bug on my second play through that, through discarding a card, I had a hand of four cards that would only replenish to 4 cards. Didn't happen at all the first time, so I'm not entirely sure what caused it, but I did want to mention it.

Awesome job to the "Bet the Farm" team!

Developer

Thank you very much :) It really means a lot to us! ^^

Developer

Thank you for the kind comment on the music! ^^

Peaceful game & nice concept, good job!

Some suggestions:

  • Click on a tile to see what crop is there, its bonuses, and how long it will take
  • Drag cards as an alternative to 2x click (personal choice)
  • The random generation was my biggest frustration: just waiting all the time for certain cards to appear out of sheer luck (can take a long time), while in the meantime you're already planting things from future quests without seeing any reward. Currently it's too much luck, and not enough strategy
  • Art design could be more consistent, especially the UI and its relation to the 2D art. Try to limit your font usage for consistency. It still looks good though, just some room for improvement!
  • Split up the tutorial into different parts, which only appear when you're about to do the part. it was too much tutorial reading for me before I could play anything.

But overall, a nice game, I enjoyed playing it!

Developer

Thank you for your suggestions ^^

you've put together a lovely game here! The art is great, and everything works well. Congratulations!

Very nice Game- was looking forward to play it and didn t get disapointed (only by the fact that I didn't win the Game q.q) - the Game concept is wonderfull - I think you could make the seasons more impactfull. The one thing I REALY missed and didn t like was that you can't click on your placed tiles to get information (like "was that a hill or a plain? What did I plant here? How long is it till finished?) but thats an issue that could be easy fixed and with the level of polish your game has, this could go to steam with a little more extras on it.

Very nice entry!

Developer

That's definitely a feature that would benefit the game well! Thank you for playing :)

As your game is wonderful I will write about small imperfections.

UI:

- At starting "cutscene" and tutorial "skip" button is more natural to press than continue/arrows. Making it greyed out or placing "next" and "skip" together would help

- Discarding - green button look like "confirm", red - like "cancel" on red backgrond

- Harvest and money messages blocked clicks, it would be better to show them on top of the screen, not middle

- Shop would fell more comfortable as one screen with control over all vendors

- Season/turns bar is bigger than 3 full turns, it is a bit confusing at the beginning

Gameplay:

- Acres and pens are very rare in the beginning, don't know if it is planned. I found myself willing to pay extra just to build it instead of skipping turns discarding unusable crops

- Crops placement for buffs/debuffs is written on crops card, but it depends on acre placement. And acres placed without knowing all possibilities and constraints. That makes it harder or even uneffective to consider buffs/debuffs

- Cows and pigs are too rare, I haven' finished quest by 1 pig/cow when game was over. And I had no chance to do it.

- It would be nice to know what will be buyers' wish next to plan ahead

- It would be nice to check state of planted crops/animals

- Discard is used almost every turn when you want to get other cards. So animation of discard feels too long

- Resources and thier animal/crop are not same, so player have to leran what is what by trying, making wrong gameplay decision

- Red/green marker while playing cerd wuold help with trying to build on "locked" spaces (forest/lake/etc.)

- It is hard to distinguish hills and plains after placing acre on them (maybe I am bad with green tints)

Visuals:

- Oats, wheat and something else look very alike, 2 of them are almost the same

- Played in windowed mode, font size is very small in details of card

Bugs?:

- Cards stayed chosen but not active after using the shop with chosen card

- Second quest has 4 lines but 5 steps. It was confusing

- End screen has no way to play again, I had to reload page to get to main menu

I like kind words in the comments a lot, but I believe constructive criticism is necessary to progress.

In the end, all I wanted to say that it is a great game and wonderful entry. It is unusual to see project with so little flaws, you can write them all down :)

Keep up the good work and good luck!

Developer

Wow, thank you for the extensive feedback! We appreciate it very much :)

Developer

Thank you very much! We really appreciate your feedback!

I'm the UI Designer and I know that lots of things should have been better but we were running out of time and the team decided to focus on bugs instead of UI which is better for the gameplay but we're looking forward to make adjustments and improve it after the jam :)

I would love to see you back after it ^^

Cheers!

Perfect game!

Audio is great and the game is very polished!

Developer

Thank you! ^^

Submitted(+1)

Very polished game, UI looks great only minor downside to the UI/UX part was that discarding a card took too long ;P
Also I need to read more carefully because I totally missed the "Rightclick for more info" part so I basically played the game half blind. Having that information makes the game way more strategic.

I would like some more control over the cards I draw or discard as right now luck seems to heavily influence the outcome of the game. Besides that, a lot of the cards are only in there to make money and don't contribute to the quest progress other than the money goal.

Overall this is one of the best games I played this jam (and that number is currently 40, so I guess it's saying something ;P).

Well done to the team !

Developer

Good points! And thank you for the praise! ^^
