This game was really cohesive - I think you have a really solid indy game here. I adore the main menu, i spent a minute just cilcking between the lights. And some of the puzzles were a good little challenge, the one with the piggy bank.
I also like the narrative that is happening and i like that it is hopeful in tone.
It's a really cool ambient experience... I love how light was handled in the game. And I love the little story that was told throughout!
The puzzle mechanics were a little confusing to me... I understand the idea of "some things only exist in the dark, while other things only exist in the light", which to me implies that only things you can see are tangible. Yet, there were levels with invisible walls that you bumped into in the dark. It was cool for revealing story stuff, but the puzzle elements got weaker as a result of the inconsistencies.
The platforming mechanics felt a bit sticky to me as well.
The way the story ended was a really cool wraparound!
Thanks for your comment!
I agree, there may be some confusion :) I was planning on more levels to explore mechanics more thorough, but deadline was near and other project pushed too. So I made a choice (maybe, bad one) to remove some of early levels. Playtesting showed little confusion can occur but understanding of mechanics comes through trail and error.
I am thinking of reusing this concept in a bigger project, in which this problems will be solved one way or another. Maybe, I will see your reaction on new one too :)
Thanks again.
Very cool idea, great atmosphere! It's a shame that it is short, because I wanted to play more! Lovely
Really cool game with slick mechanics. It has this eerie atmosphere that is so well done. Great work!
I appreciate your little game, man. I like that you decided to take the profound route instead of the tongue-in-cheek approach. After all, cliches have their weightiness because they speak to something real about the human experience. And incorporating those themes into your level design, it charmed me. And the music builds a nice vibe.
The game is fantastic. A tight puzzler with good mechanics, all taking place over top that slightly haunting soundtrack. Creates the perfect atmosphere for a game that is partly in the dark. Obviously the mechanics are different, but I was getting a real 2D Antichamber vibe (would love to know if that was an influence on you at all).
Great job!
I love Antichamber! Never even thought of it, but "changing suroundings" idea is really adds similarity.
I think all my "Played" library has effect on my game-designing decisions. How else could someone find new ideas :)?
Main inspiration, obviously, were Limbo/Inside for storytelling thruogh environment (though style was lost due to deadline). Oddly Portal 2D had some effect on preproduction, but unfortunatelly mouse-controlled flashlight was cut to ease mechanics. There are a lot more subconsious references, I am sure, like Antichamber and even Alone in the dark :D
Thanks a lot!
I really enjoyed your game! There were some really interesting puzzles. The audio was really nice. I enjoyed it and spent a lot of time plating it! Great work!
Really nice game overall. The sound and aesthetics fit the theme, the puzzles were clever while on the same time balanced meaning with the right amount of thinking things could be solved. Also hint mode is good to have when ppl get stuck.
I was impressed. Good job!
Oooh my, very nice. Nailed the aesthetic, puzzles were appropriately hard, music fits the theme. I liked the start screen/ending connection too.
Only suggestion I can give for improvement is... more of the same ;)
Nice little experience, reminded me a lot of Closure by Tyler Glaiel, the mechanics work well together, the graphics and music are fit and the overall mood is immersive. Good job!
Nice game! Unfortunately my play session got cut short with a bug where I could no longer take the torches from their slots. It was on the level with the arrow pointing down sign by the start.
I really enjoyed this game! The audio was great but I wish the foot step noise was less crunchy and loud. It kept getting in the way of the wonderful soundtrack!
