This game was really ambitious! I liked the humor and finding the cliches. Really nice job!
Pretty easy to pick up and play, i think i broke the final boss? Not sure if it’s indented for him to be under the ground xD (Loved the cliches)
He sure wasn't meant to go through the floor no, so you broke him good ;P
We found the bug too late to fix unfortunately, but glad you still enjoyed it !
Thanks for the review
This game is solid. I had a lot of fun playing it. I loved the zombie level (favorite for sure). Theme interpretation is on point. The level where you have to escort a way-to-slow NPC is lol.
I think one thing that could make this better would be a pass on the movement for the player character. Maybe a little bit slower overall and some acceleration/friction goes a long way.
Hallo,
Thank you for sharing your game. I’ve already saved its RATING;
1. verified: GAME due to observed you wrote a review for Untitled Card Game
2. observed: in MAIN GAME, noticeable combination of graphics, sound, and gameplay techniques to remind self of professionals; adds: however, at select parts, e.g. receiving a GUN, reminded of GAME as a parody;
3. notes: musical tune and sounds effects to remind self of Castlevania Symphony of the Night (PS1) and Alucard;
4. verified: GAMEPLAY to use combinations of techniques that remind self of existing GAMES, e.g. Super Smash TV (SNES), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Family Computer), Flashback (PC), Super Mario RPG (Super Family Computer);
5. notes: GAMEPLAY to have multiple paths to reach BOSS BATTLE
6. observed: in BOSS Battle, enemy boss appeared to be stuck in position, such that hero does NOT hit him;
7. received: “Thank you for playing!”
Thank you. Health!
I like the art and the sounds, the controls are tight and responsive, the gameplay is fun and is challenging, along with witty and humorous dialogue this game gave me a great game experience , that ties along well with the theme, overall I enjoyed playing this one! congratulations! keep it up!
I think you forgot about the double jump cliche hahaha.
No but this game is honestly something, it made me laugh a lot, the amount of cliches and gameplay scenarios you were able to cram in this is just bonkers.
Tha art is very unconsistent and the gameplay is quite unpolished and you do have quite a bit of bugs allround but that's not the point of this, you managed to include every cliche you could think of, and made it playable in a month, that is impressive!
Great work on the cliches! There's so much of them that it's almost impossible to believe that you managed to tie them all together this nicely.
A very impressive entry overall!
Really good game! :)
All of the minigames were both funny and well done, and the achievements were a really nice touch too. A coyote timer would have been nice for the levels that were heavier on platforming, but that's super minor.
I'm very happy to see that fishing keeps it title as the best way to farm gold in all games, haha :D
Great job!
All the clichés! And nice graphics, definitely has an SNES feel, and even the princess who shall remain unnamed for those who didn't play yet! This is good, nice job!
This game had me laughing out loud! So funny. The cliché characters and the cliché lines - dying. And the hits just kept rolling, especially when given a certain request during the boss battle (don't want to spoil it for anyone because that line really got me).
But the thing I loved the most was the achievement system. Not only was it hysterical (even an achievement for opening your achievements), but an achievement system in a game jam is an impressive add.
Mini-games were great. Concept great. Sound and art great. Just overall great.
Great job all!
Thanks for the review !
You are not the first to enjoy the [insert spoiler request here] ;P
That small addition performed way above my expectations hehe.
Review was great, words were great, Just overall great! :D
HOLY COW! Loved this - very impressive in scope (all the more so if this was your team's first game jam) and I'd be amazed if anyone nailed the theme as well as you did. Fun to play and had me smiling the whole time. Also, every game needs a fishing mini-game; +1 for that inclusion! :'D
Thanks !
Our scope was even bigger at the start, we were aiming for a Slay the Spire like map with 20+ minigames. But our minigames turned out to be more work than expected so the map kept growing smaller and smaller over time ;P
Overscoping is an art hehe!
That was a fun game to play.
I recorded my playthrough, if you’re interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_22U4OqUNo
A few random thoughts on the game:
I ended up in the “thank you for playing” screen after dying on the final boss battle without an ability to go back to the main menu. I couldn’t continue collecting the achievements because of that. :)
I think it could be possible to collect all the achievements in one run, but without a way to get back to the achievements list it’s hard to do that in practice.
If it’s impossible to collect all the achievements in a single run, I would like the ability to skip the boss battle; or maybe after defeating it once we could get a game+ ability to replay any level multiple times. It would be even better if I could access the achievements screen while doing that.
The achievements popup disappears faster than I can read it. Maybe it works like this on purpose? I really wanted to reflect on the cliches we’re unlocking, but there was not enough time for that, unfortunately. The achievements screen is not accessible enough to compensate for that. :(
The fishing level is OP in terms of coin grinding. :D
I don’t think that we ever needed to cut any vines outside of the tutorial, ahaha. Feels a little bit weird. :D You learn about something that you’ll never need. :D
The box destruction sounds from the tutorial level was hilarious too. We never saw any other boxes in a game though. :D
The camera behaves weird if you go left in the very beginning. It shows some other screen and I don’t know if it’s an intended secret or just a camera issue.
Hi, and thanks for playing!
I must say I have enjoyed watching your playthrough with a massive smile! It's very gratifying watching you enjoy the game, reacting to the silly (and sometimes buggy) gameplay we worked hard on! Especially thanks for your massive amount of feedback. I love the fact you picked up on the 'So long, and thanks for all the fish' quote from hitchhikers guide to the galaxy!
I so wish we had just a few more days to fix some minor bugs, clean up the polish and balance stuff a bit more properly, but I am so happy you were able to enjoy it for your playthrough, and I thank you for recording it!
Thank you again for playing, your kind words, and your (very correct!) feedback <3
I wish there was an award for best review because you would win it no doubt. Not just writing out a highly detailed review but even recording your gamplay and commentary? That is some godlike reviewing right there !
I also want to do your review justice so I will go through it point by point:
- The exit button was a mistake in hindsight, we would have loved to see you play even more so I am bummed we actually put this in there with no way of going back.
- You can get all achievements in "one" run, provided you die right away and then get all the achievements in the "real" run.
- In most levels you can access the achievement screen by pressing Tab (see top right: "Press tab for menu"). However we did not add this to the Map scene, which is where you were looking for it, so that is an oversight on our part.
- The popups dissapear quite quick on purpose because you are busy trying to win a level, some of which have time constraints. The achievement menu should have made up for that, but we did not make this visible enough I think.
- You were amazing at fishing, getting the treasure chest on your first 2 tries. However, coins reset on finishing the game and there is no way to get to the shop after the fishing level so the grinding doesn't really matter. Not getting to the shop after fishing is kinda cheesy, but we had to make sure you didn't have the fishing pole when getting to the water level, otherwise the NPC chat would not make sense ;P
- The vines were added to make sure there was some time for the gun chat to happen, if they weren't there then the player could simply run through and see all the chat in about 2 seconds, missing most of it for sure.
- The box destruction sound is actually the voice of CG-Gaming. It was used as a placeholder, but we liked it too so we kept it in there. Glad you liked it.
- The camera behaving weird in the tutorial is totally my fault. I messed up the camera bounding in there, causing it to spike upwards if you move left.
Thanks so much for playing, this was amazing to read / watch ! :D
Cool game. I liked the theme and hunting for cliches was fun. Maybe the graphics could be a bit more consistent, but was nevertheless very nice.
Thanks for your review, I'm glad you had fun hunting!
Regarding the art assets: that's a valid point. We spent our time mostly on getting as much mini games and clichés as possible. The art was an afterthought :)
Very interesting game, maybe the best I played so far!
Music was truly good end the Theme accuracy is perfect!
Thanks so much for the nice review !
This was super fun, I loved the minigames! The fishing mingame was super fun, reminded me of Stacker from arcades. I also faced the boss bug, sadly, but loved the game!
Too bad you encountered the boss bug as well, but luckily you saw most of the game since you actually made it to the boss :)
Thanks for playing and reviewing!
Look I know I'm busy and all but... cookies are important.
Hey there!
Really nice game! It kept me engaged till the end. Managed to beat the boss but still not found all the cliches! I appreciate the humor in the game and loved how you did “mini games” and implemented a lot of the gaming cliches in one game.
Very solid entry! Keep it up!
Thanks for the review!
You really need to 'hunt' some of the clichés as you will likely not get all by playing your best ;p
The achievement screen is your friend to find them all!
Yes i totally understand that. I realized that after beating the game and was impressed by the amount of those! I might get back to it after i check some more games <3
Love the variety of minigames in this! Lots of funny clichés to find too. Good work.
Great game, really enjoyed the fishing and the boss :)
I loved this! Super dynamic mini games and loved the badges :P I was stuck at the scene with the boss fight because he dropped to the platform below and nothing happened for the longest time - not sure if I was supposed to do something there? Anyway, great game!
You unfortunately found a bug we found ourselves too late to still fix.
I'm glad you still enjoyed it nonetheless!
Thanks for playing and leaving a review.
