I like the aesthetic a lot. I could use a little more light at least at the beginning as I'm figuring out things. Like the sound and music and really like the look of the characters.
Great game jam game! The intro and story was top notch :D
You nailed the noir aesthetic for sure and I loved the writing! The giant bullets cracked me up. I definitely had some performance problems and turning off Shake and Flash helped. I did get lost a few times (and died a couple times) but it was fun to play! Oh and I loved the music!
Love the fact that its “open world-ish” <3, a minimap would have been awesome
Really cool attempt at creating a noire game. I really loved LA Noire back in the day, and found a little bit of the atmosphere in that game, it was nice.
The gameplay is cool, I like the fact of having multiple endings. However it is sometimes hard to keep track of everything as you're killing bad guys and picking up clues/ pieces of evidence.
Also the beginning "cinematics" were quite classy.
Honestly it's very good, congrats :)
Thanks! Appreciate the feedback, Jipey!
The core game is fun, but hard. I died a lot.
Good game overall, maybe a mission structure to help the player to follow the story could make serious improvement on a pretty cool game!
Thanks. You're absolutely right. More structure would go a long way.
I didn't really understand what was going on with the story, so I ended up playing it pretty much like a regular top down shooter. It worked!
I have great respect for anyone who can craft a proper adventure / detective / story game. It's not as easy as I imagined it to be.
Thanks for playing! Glad you enjoyed the shoot bits.
The introduction is awesome, the music was awesome and you nailed the detective aspect. As for the game itself it's well done.
As said by another comment it would have been nice to have a mission structure because at the end you end up wandering around without a clear puprose.
I liked the art in the game but sometimes it wasn't consistent and some elements felt too different from each other.
The game mechanic is fun and the projectiles are satisfying. I liked also the fact that you put different description to the items, it makes the game more immersive.
I think you nailed the theme.
Nice job!
Thanks for playing! Great feedback!
Good game art style was nice. Shooting mechanic was good. I think the clues were kind of useless. You can try to make the clues attached with story like finding the real culprit.
Anyways nice job.
Overall well made game. Was expecting a story but ended up shooting until I win.
Game felt laggy in middle but after that I guess I shot enough enemies and it was fine. I guess it means that everything was on the map from the start. If so then there should be some system that deatviates enemies that are too far away from me so they don't interfere needlesly. Or spawn enemies in regions only then I enter them for the first time.
Thanks for playing! Great feedback!
Yeah, we definitely had some performance issues. It ran silky smooth on my machine, but I didn't think to test it on other machines. Lesson learned. Next game I'll put in some frustum culling or distance culling. No need to be calculating all the A* pathfinding for NPCs offscreen.
The cars spawn enemies at intervals, so there's some progression, but it's not obvious to the players, so it might as well not exist as a mechanic.
I like the art style and the idea of the game!
Thanks!
It's a really cool game. I love the shooting mechanics, I love the giant bullets, and I love the lighting effects.
I feel like you might have scoped too big with the game's scenarios? There's supposedly this big mystery brewing, but the game is fully open world, and the buildings are kinda hard to distinguish... so you kinda just end up wandering around blasting every goon & cop you see until you find giant people to talk to. Eventually the game told me I won, I suppose.
I think either having a more traditional mission structure where the choices you make are more clear, or no story at all (to focus more on the great shooting mechanics) would have been better...
I love the audio and the hand-drawn cutscenes. I love the chalk lines from dead enemies, that's a fun touch. I'm not sure about the pictures of figurines that were used for the NPCs.
Yeah, that's a fair assessment. We probably scoped too big. The popup clues interfere with the flow of the shooting, and they don't offer enough of value on their own. We should have found a better way to incorporate the story into the mission structure. Thanks for the constructive feedback!
Really liked the hand drawn cutscenes
Thanks!
hand painted stills on the cutscene are great. I love how the bullets get HUGE and the chalk lines from dead enemies.
Thanks!
Very ambitious game.
I loved the cinematic cutscenes art style. Combat was rather enjoyable (I see that it was inspired by hotline miami). Plot is incomprehensively cliche (which is a plus in this jam).
For improvement, obviously performance on the Web Build, but also could do with some more consistency in art style in the main game; Many sprites and the characters felt out of place in the world. Finally, a small improvement could be making sure that the music doesn't stop when you switch screens in the start menu or when you open a note in the main game (perhaps just dim the music instead).
All in all, a strong submission! Well done to your team.
That's excellent feedback. Thanks for playing and commenting!
I should have caught that "pause silences music" issue, myself. Adding that to my lessons learned list. :)
It's been a good opportunity for developing our game dev chops.
Interesting game. Adding chalk outlines is a nice touch.
I thought you really nailed the noir theme, and you a lot of the major clichés of the genre. I found the plot incomprehensible, but that only added to the theme for me!
Although the description said that stealth was an option, I couldn't manage to play that way and got the "Brutal" ending.
The graphics felt inconsistent, and the gameplay didn't progress, but I respect the amount of content you managed to make in a month. Nice entry!
Thanks for playing. That's good feedback.
Now that I think about it, we really should have given the player a warning before they descended into that basement. There's no way to stealth out of that boss fight. (But there should have been.)
I loved the atmosphere that you set up for the game. The music, visuals and cutscenes were really effects. I really enjoyed your game. Kudos!
Thanks! I liked your game a lot too.
Really liked the ambience in the cutscenes
Thanks!
