How does the game fit the theme?
Our game fits the theme because every choice the player makes is a risk: opening the wrong chest means facing a deadly mimic, while spotting the right one brings reward. The whole gameplay loop is about weighing risk versus reward – you’re literally “risking for the biscuit.”
What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
We created all core code and most of the art during the jam. The only things we didn’t make from scratch were fonts.

I quite like how their is a story and a "why" to what you are doing. My thing only though would be a on-screen prompt to forward the text of the characters. Just to be more clear.
Thank you so much! Really glad you enjoyed the story aspect – and that’s a good point about adding an on-screen prompt for forwarding dialogue, we’ll definitely keep it in mind.
Amazing gameplay, I' had so much fun playing this, a very polished game! Congratulations
Thank you so much! Really glad you had fun and enjoyed the polish – your kind words mean a lot to the team!
Loved the adventurer sprites. Including wood samples in the manual would have reduced some ambiguity.
Thank you so much! Really glad you liked the adventurer sprites. You’re absolutely right about the wood samples – we didn’t manage to add them into the in-game manual before the jam, but we put a simple legend on the game page for now.
This game was quite fun and if something tells me you were inspired by the game "That's not my neighbor" in terms of some mechanics. great game and i has soo much fun playing it, Could use a little but more polish and make it a little easier to understand but for a jam game definitely impressive especially considering you made the art yourself all while with a team of 5!
Underrated game: 10/10
btw, I hope you can try out my game as well :D
Racookie Heist
Thank you so much! We agree it could use some extra polish and clarity, but we’re happy the core experience worked for you.
And wow, 10/10 and calling it underrated really means a lot to us!
We’ll be sure to check out your game too =)
No, problem I hope you enjoy my game as well. You game has a lot of potential and if you were to sort of remake it in a slightly different way it could turn out into something quite fun :D
A really interesting game! I liked how it makes you think while also teaching you about the different types of wood and their colors XD
I especially enjoyed the characters and the dialogues - they gave the game a lot of charm. The dialogue screen was a little bit confusing at times, and since the game is on the longer side (with all the reading and thinking), it might be nice to have a pause menu with the option to save your progress by day.
Overall, I truly enjoyed the experience. It feels unique and special, so congratulations on creating something so creative!
Thank you so much! Really glad you enjoyed both the deduction part and the little details like wood types – and especially that the characters and dialogues added charm for you.
You’re right about the dialogue screen being a bit confusing at times, and the pause/save suggestion is a really good idea, especially with the game running longer. Definitely something we’d love to add if we expand it further.
We really appreciate your kind words – it means a lot to the team!
This idea is right up my alley, I love the basic logic-based gameplay, but once the lid pattern rules were introduced I basically started failing to identify a single chest. I really don’t understand the rule that a “lid without a pattern can only go on an oak base” - the vast majority of lids, if not all of them? have no pattern. I’m also not sure I ever saw a circular base pattern.
The one thing a game like this has to have is clear, consistent rules, and I felt like from that point on I couldn’t trust anything the game was telling me. Honestly I don’t understand why you put a guide for some of the ambiguous things on your page but not all of them. It’s still not too late to edit it with answers! I would love to know why the chest on the left is a mimic and the one on the right isn’t…
I didn’t really have any agency (it felt like) over the decision to harm a certain someone towards the end because my income had completely dried up at that point and there was no other way to get the money needed to keep my mom alive (which seemed like a game over trigger), so I didn’t really feel like my choices mattered at the end. I knew something was wrong, that nearly every chest evaluated as mimic, which I think made the frustration even worse.
Figuring out the need to press space at the start was also a tiny issue. But not as big a deal as the game seemingly throwing its reliability of rules out at a certain point.
I went back through and indeed not a single chest with any patterns on their top ever shows up except a couple with the v shaped presumably ‘straight’ pattern, only as part of incorrect quest assignments. Similarly, the circle base pattern only shows up once, also as part of a quest prompt. So people not being able to differentiate circles and spirals didn’t matter.
Anyway I really wanted to love this, but I guess I’m feeling heartbroken that this otherwise amazing game let me down D:
Thank you so much for taking the time to write such detailed feedback – it really means a lot to us. You’re absolutely right that for a logic-based game, the rules need to be consistent and crystal clear. Some of the later-day conditions (like lid patterns and base circles) ended up underdeveloped due to time constraints, which created confusion and even situations where certain patterns barely appeared. That’s on us.
We didn’t manage to get full visual explanations into the game itself before the jam deadline, but we did add a partial guide on the game page. You’re right though – it should be complete, and we’ll update it so that every ambiguous case is covered.
As for the story choices, we see your point – the intent was to add weight and moral pressure, but if the mechanics dried up income to the point where choices felt forced, then that undermines the experience. That’s really valuable feedback we’ll take with us if we expand the project.
Again, thank you for such thoughtful criticism – we understand the frustration, and we’ll be using notes like yours to polish and improve the game moving forward.
Great game 10/10! Loved the idea of being a mimic inspector, such a unique idea, also it was a great choice to include story elements that changed depending on what you did during each day, the art and animations are very well done, the game has a great risk mechanic which gets more difficult and tense as each day passes.
Great Job to the team and hoping more people can play your game!
Thank you so much! We’re really happy you enjoyed the “mimic inspector” concept, the branching story elements, and the risk mechanic getting tougher each day.
Thanks again for the support – we also hope more people will get to try the game!
Very well put-together game! I really like the character designs and concept of the game. I did notice that the dialogues sometimes repeated themselves. Like the last sentence of one blurb is the first/only one in the next. Not a huge deal but hopefully an easy fix! Other things that would have been nice: An in-game guide with what each wood looks like (I wasn't sure so I had to look some up haha). Some more sounds/music. Maybe not all the time but at least for revealing treasure and dialogue popping up. Again, a very clever, well-executed idea with plenty of risk involved!
Thank you so much! Really glad you enjoyed the character designs and concept. You’re right about the repeating dialogue – we’ve noticed that too and will be looking into it.
We also agree that an in-game guide for the woods and more sound effects/music would be very helpful – we couldn’t add those in time for the jam, but they’re high on our list for the future. Really appreciate the thoughtful feedback and kind words!
Great game! It's a brilliant idea that's very well executed. I love the graphics. The background sound is pleasant and helps set the mood, but I would have liked a little music. Congrats!
Thank you so much! Really glad you enjoyed the idea, graphics, and atmosphere. Totally fair point about the music – we couldn’t add it in time for the jam, but it’s definitely something we’d love to include in the future. Thanks again for the kind words!
Interesting deduction game! I ended up taking quite a while just to get to Day 6, and I ended up avoiding all mimics. The art is incredibly good, such a cool aesthetic, and I can only imagine how long it took to make! The amount of content is also very impressive, but I do find it gets repetitive, despite the added things to look for. It just ended up making me take longer to solve. Aside from that, the UI was great, it was easy to read and was nice and quick to get through, and thee style of music was a good pick, it added to the atmosphere greatly. Very cool experience, great work!
Thank you so much for the detailed feedback! Really glad you enjoyed the deduction aspect, visuals, UI, and music – the team put a lot of effort into those.
It’s very helpful to hear your thoughts about the pacing and repetition. We focused on gradually adding new rules, but we agree that variety in how they appear could make the experience even stronger. Really appreciate you taking the time to share this – means a lot to us!
Very impressive and polished game! Loved the art style and overall concept. I also love how a story was incorporated. Good job!
Thank you so much! Really glad you enjoyed the art style, concept, and especially the story – we wanted it to add some extra depth. Your kind words mean a lot to the team!
I love me some DnD fun!
This is a really great idea and a fantastic execution. Very impressive!
Thank you so much! Really glad you enjoyed the idea and execution – means a lot to the team!
I liked the game a lot it was very complete! Very nice kind of puzzles that keep you solving and checking the different constraints. Great job!
Thank you so much!
Great job! Well done! :D
In the chest-judging gameplay, there are also narrative elements and vivid quests, which I think is really cool.
At first, I had some trouble telling the wood types apart—please forgive my shallow knowledge—but relying on my rough impressions, I was still able to get the hang of it quickly.
The animation of being attacked by a mimic chest is very well done, and that’s really cool.
Thank you so much! Really glad you enjoyed both the chest-judging gameplay and the little narrative/quest elements – we wanted those to add some extra flavor.
You’re not alone with the wood types – we’ve heard that from a few players – so we added a simple legend on the game page for convenience. And we’re especially happy you liked the mimic attack animation, the team had a lot of fun making that one!
Great game!
Really, I have no big complains with this game! The text-based information may be kind of annoying to some, but they really are the core part of the game(they are supposed to be misleading). The only real complain I have is that the 2nd doctor threshold is far too high and comes too fast to allow beginners to experiment around a bit.
At one point, I thought that the circular chest pattern was the whirl chest pattern, and missed a lot of chests because of this. Just major skill issue though.
The gameplay is quite fun! Even if I have to kind of squint at the chest, trying to make sure I don't miss potential money, it's a very fun gameplay loop! Trying to keep in mind what I know about the different types of everything and successfully destroying a day is very rewarding.
The theming is rather solid. With each guess, you are risking potential money and reputation, and even though with enough analyzing there really isn't any risk, however we all make mistakes, and it can be kind of annoying to see 4 chests missed at the end screen.
Most games in the jam(including my game) lacks any cohesive story, which is often overlooked in favour of gameplay(which is smart, we don't have nearly enough time to add our own in-depth character arcs or whatever), and is never needed in a game, however adding some kind of story, if vague, is still pretty nice.
The multiple endings is a very cool addition! It was not at all required or requested, and yet your team still decided to implement it anyway. Very cool.
The visuals are very good. It's a great deal of polish for a jam game, and I love it.
Rather underrated game, I think this deserves more ratings.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write such detailed feedback – it really means a lot to us! We’re glad you enjoyed the core gameplay loop, the theming, and especially that the multiple endings stood out to you.
You’re right about the text-based information – it’s designed to be a bit misleading, but we understand it can sometimes be tricky. Good point about the 2nd doctor threshold too; that’s very helpful for us to note if we expand on the balance later. And we’ve heard from several players that some patterns (like circular vs whirl) could use clearer visuals – something we’d like to improve.
We also appreciate that you noticed the story and endings, since those were things we added on top of the core requirements. Thanks again for the kind words about the visuals and polish – and for calling the game underrated!
If it won't bother you, could you take time to play my game? It's fine if you can't do it, but it would be awesome if you tried my game 😊
rated!
ayy most things are perfect, this has the papers please charm but honestly a bit harder and more intense, the art and sounds are quite good but I wish there was some music, extremely nice entry having only 36 ratings is a crime
Thank you so much – hearing it has that Papers, Please charm is a huge compliment! We wanted to make it a bit challenging, so it’s great that came through.
Totally fair point about the music – we couldn’t add it in time for the jam, but it’s definitely something we’d love to include in the future. And yeah, every new rating really helps, so your support means a lot!
Very nice visuals and an interesting take on the theme! However, I am not familiar with any wood so I didn't know what's the difference between spruce or birch or oak. It would be helpful to add some information in game. Other than that, a solid entry for the jam!
Thank you so much! Really glad you enjoyed the visuals and theme. You’re absolutely right about the wood types – we didn’t manage to add explanations directly into the game before the jam deadline, but for now we’ve added a simple legend on the game page to help with that. Thanks again for the thoughtful feedback!
This is the most beautiful game I've seen in the jam, with magnificent graphics and animation! The concept is really solid with great potential for long play sessions and high replayability. Absolutely amazing work - I'll definitely be following your progress and hope you continue developing this project!
Thank you so much – that’s such high praise and it really means a lot to us! We’re thrilled you enjoyed the graphics, animation, and concept.
We definitely plan to keep developing this project further, and hearing that you’ll be following along gives us even more motivation. Thanks again!
The gameplay is pretty solid and fun to play for a long time. Yet the issues for me is the clues. With text based clues and it's look the same as dialogue, made the clue is hard to understand and notice. For me myself that had no clues about kind of wood or other must look onto website to google it. Love the complexity and feedback you build on the game. Great game!
Thank you so much! Really glad you enjoyed the gameplay and complexity.
You’re absolutely right about the clues – since they’re text-based and blend in with the dialogue, it can be tricky to catch and understand them, especially without prior knowledge of the materials. We didn’t manage to add visual explanations in time for the jam, but for now we’ve put a legend with the woods, metals, and patterns on the game page to make it easier.
Really appreciate the thoughtful feedback!
Really good detective/clue seeking game. Graphics were great. Sound was great. As others have mentioned, it would have been nice to know what all the patterns were before playing. I think you can still edit that game page to include them as you're not changing the game.
There were a few things that were off. Some of the text needs edited. I had an adventurer say "We went to the dungeon and got this chest. Can you help us?" So I hit the space bar and they say "Can you help us?" again. There were a couple instances where I opened the chest to reveal treasure and the adventurer said "I'm glad I steered clear of that one." The chest they told me to have Jake open was not the chest Jake gave me. I told him not to open it and the Jake quest disappeared with seemingly no consequences. I had something similar with the guy from the guild quest not resolving correctly.
If you plan on expanding this, one thing I would suggest is to highlight or otherwise mark any tab that gains an entry. I opened a mimic on somebody because I didn't realize that I had to start checking lid/base patterns.
All said, great potential and a job well done!
Thank you so much for the detailed feedback – it really means a lot! We’re glad you enjoyed the graphics, sound, and the overall detective/clue-seeking vibe.
You’re absolutely right about the patterns – we didn’t manage to add visual explanations into the game itself before the jam deadline, but for now we’ve added a legend with them on the game page for convenience.
The issues you mentioned with repeating text, mismatched quest chests, and quest resolution are very helpful to know – we’ll make sure to look into those. And that’s a great suggestion about marking tabs when new rules or entries appear, it would definitely make things clearer for players.
Thanks again for taking the time to write all this – feedback like yours is exactly what helps us polish and improve the game!
