I might play it again to give some more feedback. It was specifically jumping left onto the lowest moving platform. I don't think anything is moving faster than it should. I think it just visually gives that impression.

Lol... Yeah, the "friendship" bug is known and fixed in the version I am going to upload after the jam. It was an over-correction to the "I'm going to stand on you when you're dead" bug. There's five total pieces scattered around the board. When you get all five, the game ends with your time taken.
Appreciate you playing it and giving me bug feedback!

Everything went weird for sure. Really good for a first game. Graphics fit the game play. Music was good too. There were some oddities that I ran into. When jumping left, it seemed to move faster than it was going. It seemed like it was due to the background moving faster than it should. The floaters making you essentially instantly lose seems a bit harsh. Overall a solid first game!

Played it to the end. The shooter enemies were frustrating at first. Then I just started rolling over top of them. It was fun, but appropriately short. I like the music slowdown as I gained levels. One thing I noticed is that I really didn't use any of the platforms and just stayed on the ground doing slams and eventually rolls.

Interesting movement mechanic! Music fit very well. Graphics were good enough to get the point across. I ended up winning by just planning ahead based on what cards were getting passed back an forth. I did not realize that you could carry multiple eggs until I saw my opponent do it. The only criticism I have is that it took me a couple of minutes to figure out how to play. Great job!

Pretty simple concept. I wish there was more of an indicator for when the owner was going to turn around. Something like tapping their foot or moving their head. That would make me want to risk more hoping I could catch the movement and stop scratching in time. Right now it just seems random and the biggest payoff is to do one scratch as soon as they turn around. I did not encounter any bugs that I could discern. Good entry!

This was fun. Reminds me of some old school text games I used to play. Would be nice to have a physical timer as opposed to the the song finishing. Not knowing how long the song is to begin with is the unknown. Also, there needs to be a way to mass buy/sell. Individual clicks got tiresome. Maybe have a x10 and x100 button, or allow it to progressively add more if you hold the mouse button down. Aside from that, great entry!
Got this far, but was done clicking...

Decent start to something. Definitely needs some polishing though. If you choose to continue developing, I would suggest looking into the level of gravity used. It seems like you float down instead of fall normally. Also had a few weird platform issues where I was standing on a platform and when I walked to the right and into another platform, it would automatically go into the jump animation and then have me fall to the ground level. You got several levels in, so it's quite a bit more than a vertical slice, so that was cool. I did not know what the purpose of the stealth meter was until I played a few rounds. Overall, a good entry that just needs more time spent on it.

Graphics sufficed. Music fit. Challenging, at least for me. Didn't figure out the space bar until after about 15 minutes of playing it. Oops. There are obviously a few things that would add to the game, like visual effects for when you get a bomb and etc. The only gripe I had was that I feel like it could have been zoomed out a little bit so it would be easier to see when enemies were going to right up on me firing tons of bullets. Aside form that, good job!

Very challenging. Music definitely had a 007 feel to it. Graphics fit the game play although I am curious as to why the chess motif. It's sometimes hard to make a choice about stat based characteristics without knowing the underlying dynamics. For instance, is a 20 point damage boost for a reduced fire rate worth it? I have no idea aside form playing it and seeing if I can tell the difference. Health bars for the enemy could have let me know. there were time where enemies would just fly in next to me which really ramped up the difficulty.
For a seven day dev cycle, it's a solid entry. In a perfect world I would want to see the final product just to see where it leads.
The gnomes fear me! This game is something that you could easily expand upon. Graphics fit the game play. Loved the idea of gnomes using ducks as mounts. Certainly a good vertical slice of what it could become. You're just not going to get the different troop types, economy, and most importantly, tuning in a seven day period. But what you did get in there was really good considering the time frame! Oh yeah, the gnome shackled to the ground was a nice touch!
I would appreciate it if you could give mine a go...
Solid vertical slice/prototype. It's an adventure game that could certainly be expanded on if you wanted to. There are certainly some niceties that could be added for a better game feel. Animations for the doors would be one of them. More stuff in the environment would be nice as well. I did see one oddity where the work items while held would rotate as I moved the mouse left and right. Fixing that would be a bonus as it just doesn't look right. Overall, I'd say you got a good start on something that could end up being really good. Good job!
That was interesting! Took a minute to figure out what to do. Graphics were stylistically cool. Music was good and fit the game play. Could use more sound effects. Nothing like crunching into that bottle of wine. ;) I liked the level geometry. Almost looked like some stairs were on their side and I was half expecting the board to rotate or the need to use them to determine the location of something else. I did run into an issue where it was very hard to line up on an egg. Aside form that, solid entry!
If you have the time, I would appreciate it if you give mine a go. Thanks!
This is my second game jam, first solo, and my game is downloadable. The only way I have been able to get any ratings is by participating in R4R threads that people are posting. I have not made my own. It's my only avenue of marketing and it's primarily downloadable games that are getting the shaft on this because people don't want to click more than twice to get a game going. It's somewhat annoying to have to "hustle" just to get people to play your game. That's why I think the queue works. If they made it so that the more games you rate, the more your game shows up in front of people, it would be a good thing. Also, you could make games hidden once they get to a certain number of ratings which could put other games into the spotlight.
Just my two cents, but I agree that this could have been handled better.
Short but sweet! Graphics and sound were great. Really liked the background when the lights came up a bit. Was not sure what I was doing at first. Took some trial and error to figure it out. As mentioned before, font choice wasn't the best for UI. I had some trouble choosing fingers with the hand moving as much as it does. Maybe have it stop or not move as much when mouse over, and then start again when mouse exits. Overall a solid entry!
I saw your game in a rate for rate thread. Was hoping you wouldn't mind checking mine out.

Really good detective/clue seeking game. Graphics were great. Sound was great. As others have mentioned, it would have been nice to know what all the patterns were before playing. I think you can still edit that game page to include them as you're not changing the game.
There were a few things that were off. Some of the text needs edited. I had an adventurer say "We went to the dungeon and got this chest. Can you help us?" So I hit the space bar and they say "Can you help us?" again. There were a couple instances where I opened the chest to reveal treasure and the adventurer said "I'm glad I steered clear of that one." The chest they told me to have Jake open was not the chest Jake gave me. I told him not to open it and the Jake quest disappeared with seemingly no consequences. I had something similar with the guy from the guild quest not resolving correctly.
If you plan on expanding this, one thing I would suggest is to highlight or otherwise mark any tab that gains an entry. I opened a mimic on somebody because I didn't realize that I had to start checking lid/base patterns.
All said, great potential and a job well done!
So there's a lot to unpack here... You throw your limbs to shoot enemies and can pick them back up if you can reach them. If not, just grab the limbs of your now dead enemies. And if one of those enemies was a fly, and you attach one of its wings, then now you can fly. Have to admit, I have not beat this game yet, but I'm going to try to.
No bugs (aside from enemies) that I could find. Character seems to move a little slow (when he has legs - otherwise he doesn't move at all). The aiming could use a little work to make it more intuitive. Graphics aren't going to win awards but aren't placeholders either. Music somehow unexpectedly fit with the game feel.
This one is out there and I love it!
I'm glad you caught the challenge of winning means you have a mob chasing you. That's the only way I could realistically add to the difficulty without adding some sort of god mode to the villagers. I went for that music because I wanted the dog to be in its own world and not really listening to all the humans doing their things. I appreciate you taking the time to play and give feedback. Thanks!
Played it for about 30 minutes. Had fun while doing so. Gameplay is good. Music gets repetitive, but isn't painful. Missile troops all had the same issue where they would try to shoot through walls instead of going around them. There was one board where I drew three enemies before I drew a friendly card, but still ended up winning somehow. Exploder guy is probably one of the strongest if played correctly. The only thing I would want is to have the actual stats on the card instead of just the base stats with the mouseover bonus. It looks like you plan to expand it with more cards (unless I didn't play it long enough to unlock them), so that's good. Solid entry!
Second game jam for me. First solo. I was amazed by how hard it was to get people playing my downloadable game. The middle of last week I was sitting at around 10 ratings and was visiting web based games that were already in the triple digits.
I don't see R4R posts quite the same way as you. From my perspective, it's about the only way people can market their game on here. In fact, that's the only way I have been able to get any ratings at all. I have not posted an R4R thread, but I have been replying to them all day, every day for the past six days and have only got a whopping 32 ratings for my effort. That said, I have been responding primarily to others with downloadable games that are in the same boat as myself because they are the only ones willing to play mine. At this time, I have rated 67 games. That's about two ratings given for each one received. I feel confident that I would have zero ratings if not for these threads.
Maybe some of these issues can be resolved by capping the number of ratings you can get? Once you hit that arbitrary number, your game is hidden or otherwise buried so others can get in the spotlight. Will that solve the problem? By itself, probably not.
In the other jam I was a part of, you were assigned a queue of ten games that you had to play through before you could try anything else. That could help as long as your game gets on enough queues. I would also suggest that the number of games you have to play would be based on the number of submissions.
Maybe the jam needs to be split into categories? Web, downloadable, and mobile and you compete/rate in the category that you submit.
I understand your frustration. I'm going to head off to play Hellbakers. Feel free to play and rate my downloadable game. ;)
Played with controller.
The good: Graphics are great. Music fits the genre. Controller inputs worked without issue. No bugs that I am aware of.
The things I would change: Needs to have an option to fly like an airplane. i.e. Pull back on the stick to nose up. Stick pushing right should roll right instead of yaw right. It was very hard for me to fly by stick with the way it's set up currently after having decades of experience with standardized airplane-like controls.
The things you did not have enough time to implement (things you could add if you keep developing this): A radar that allows you to know where the enemies are besides watching their shots fly by you and having to guess which way to fly next.
Overall, it's a honestly a great start especially considering only having seven days to get here. I would suggest playing a flight simulator or check out the Wing Commander series for inspiration on the mechanics of it all. Just looked on GOG and Wing Commander 3 (the best one) is only $3.
That said, I think it's a solid entry for a single person and I encourage you to continue this to the extent that you want to. Good job!
I saw your game in the "very long rate for rate" thread. My game is also downloadable. If you could give it a shot, I would appreciate it.
After I learned that I needed to hold down the mouse button and aim, it became a really good game. Graphics are good enough to convey what's going on. Music was repetitive, but wasn't so bad that it hurt the ears, so a good choice there on a single song. Game play was interesting. Loved knocking down the other player's towers! Great mashup of a dice roller and monopoly!
I found your game in the "very long rate for rate" thread. If you could give mine a go, I would appreciate it.
