Game Description
An electrifyingly fast paced puzzler! Fill the battery but be careful not to overload the wires.

How does your game tie into the theme?
Players move electricity through wires to charge a battery as fast as possible. If more electricity is moved through a wire it speeds up but if it's capacity is exceeded the wire overloads and breaks, forcing the player to risk overloads to set the best time.

Fun concept and good execution.

My strategy for playing was, if you are going to overload, don't

Developer

Thanks so much! I have to say that is a great tactic! I found that if you are going to overload and then do you end up in a whole lot of trouble!

Submitted

Very cool idea for the overload theme. It's really fun to play and I love the minimal overall style.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks so much for playing! It's my first game and art definitely isn't my strongest skill so I tried to make something minimal and I'm glad it works for you!

This is a Puzzle game. Manually control the Switchboxes so that the wires only get as hot as necessary to carry the electricity through. Certain wires are shorter, but can't handle as much.

Level 1 seems to be a demonstration of the rules while level 2 is when the game actually starts. Getting a 2/3 on something you have no control over doesn't feel great, but in the grand scheme, it's minor.

I didn't have much of a strat beyond "keep the short wire loaded, detour the rest". Based on the graded scoring, there must be a better way to do it, I just don't know what that is.

A strong entry, and you'll grow as you continue to jam.

Developer

Thanks very much for playing! My intended goal was to get to give the player enough options to complete each level relatively easy but in order to get 3 fuses they needed to overload certain wires and speed up the electric so I'm glad you found that method successfull.

I completely agree with what you're saying about level 1. It was mainly put there as a tutorial but the fact you only get 2/3 fuses without pressing buttons might mean there is a way to alter the electric and achieve 3/3 on a second playthrough once you know the controls. Maybe go back and give level 1 another go knowing how to control the switches!

Really fun puzzler! Very cool and intuitive concept, and I like that all is not immediately lost on one overload. Great little tune for it too, and I loved how the pitch changes with the electricity on screen. Nice one!

Developer

Thanks for playing! The aim was to try get players to push the wires close to overload in order to set a good time so it felt unfair to end the level on an overload and would stop the player doing what I was aiming for!

Glad you liked the song also, it's the first time I have created music and I did it very last minute. I used a website called BeepBox to create it. Super easy to just mess around with notes until you've got something you're happy with!

Interesting take on the overloading puzzle concept. I had initially thought of doing my game with electricity but decided against it because I don't know how it works. This is better than what I could have made for sure, well done! Had a really fun time getting through the C levels, now where are the D ones? ;D

Developer

Thanks so much for playing! I wasn't sure about using electricity to start with as I thought it was a fairly obvious interpretation of the theme but once I'd worked out how to type the theme into the mechanics of the game also I felt I had to!

I'm glad you enjoyed the game and completing all the levels. You be pleased to hear I'm already working on more levels to hopfully flesh it out into a feel release!

Intense puzzle game! The music is exactly fit for a game about electricity puzzles. Really a unique idea and excellent execution, well done :)

Developer

Thanks so much for playing. It's the first time I've ever created music for anything so I'm glad you liked it!

Cool game :)

Just like as other people commented, I thought there was just a lack of a tutorial screen about the controls, I don't know if it appeared and I didn't notice, but I discovered the controls when I tried, having the keyboard number on the switch is something quite intuitive.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks so much for playing!

I'm glad to hear the lack of obvious control instructions didn't stop you from working them out. I thought the pay off for making it less obvious would feel nicer for the player if the control scheme was initiative enough!

Submitted

these games are always so hard for me lol, really fun game!

Developer

Thanks for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed it, trying to find the balance in difficulty is something I found really difficult. I have some people saying it's too easy and others it's too hard which I hope means I have found a good balance!

Submitted

Pleasant puzzle game, initially a simple tutorial would be helpful because on the first level, I thought I was doing something wrong. Overall, very well-crafted levels with an appropriate level of difficulty. I enjoyed playing, good job!

Developer

Thanks so much for playing! Yeah I think I made a mistake making the first level a level and not just a cutscene that starts the game off.

I will definitely take that feedback on board, thanks!

Very nice game, I also was confused by controls, there is no control explanation, I only understood what to press based on comments here. It should be nice to have button that speed things up if everything is clear and I can be fast enough to manage flow

Developer

Hey! Thanks for playing 😊 From my playtesting I didn't find anyone who found the controls tricky/confusing so it's good to get a wider audience and feedback on this now! Can I ask if you got the popup on level two which says 'Press 1'? This was designed to be a safety net for people who potentially missed the controls but I'm starting to worry this is bugged!

I really like the idea of a button that speeds up the electricity once you've essentially beaten the level. I'll add this to my Trello for future development of Fuseless!

Submitted

No, I didn't, nothing happens, it just starts level

Developer

Ah man, that must be bugged. If you don't press 1 for the first 10 seconds on level 2 it should pop up and say 'Press 1' to make sure people don't miss it!

Thanks for letting me know

Submitted (1 edit)

ah 10 secs. I would recommend to change it to 1 sec) Now I see it, I probably missed it completely first time. Information like that should be sown in front I belive, because when you fully in game, you tend to pay less attention to perifery

Developer

Yeah I timed it so it would pop up just before you had to move the electric diverter. The idea behind it was to give people a chance to work it out for themselves but inform those people that didn't work it out.

I'll be sure to make it more prominent for my future development of the game as it's a crucial thing for people to miss for sure!

Super cool, I always love seeing people making puzzle games.

Like the comment below I was very very confused on what button's to press. You mentioned a popup but I ended up initially failing the second level due to still not knowing, maybe I missed something.

Clicked once I figured out the buttons though. Cool entry!

Developer

Thanks so much for playing! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Thats strange about the popup not showing for you as the second level displays a message in the bottom left saying 'Press 1' if the user hasn't pressed it to move the switch before. I'll have a look into the popup though as it might be a bug that I've missed during my testing.

Submitted

My pleasure!

I was mashing keys on my keyboard a bit to figure out so maybe I hit it on the first level without realizing? That could very well be my bad.

Developer

Hey either way I had a player confused about the controls so it's something for me to work on!

Thanks so much for the feedback 😊

Nice game, completed all the levels, I wish it had some harder levels for more challenge ! The concept is great with the theme. I think you just need to add some text to tell the player which key to press to toggle the switches.

Good job !

Developer

Hey! Thanks so much for playing. I think the difficulty balancing tricky as I initially had it very hard but playtesting showed it should be made easier. That's why I created the 8 easier levels with the 4 optional challenge or 'C' levels afterwards. Did you play these and also find them easy because if so then good job!

I really wanted to try create initiative controls for this with it being a simple control scheme which is why I didn't feel I needed to outright tell users what they had to press.

The first level that introduced a switch does have a popup message that tells you how to move the first switch you come across unless you work it out before it has a chance to pop up!

Thanks for the feedback, will take it all onboard!

Submitted

Yes i did all the levels. I didn't see the popup message, my bad !

Cool and well done puzzle game. The difficulty level is well balanced with the C levels being a bit of a challenge. Good sound effect and music

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for playing, glad you enjoyed it!

Great Job! I was doing pretty well until the challenge level, at which point I think the game broke because no sparks came out. I liked your music and SFX, and the art style was nice and cohesive. It was pretty straightforward to figure out what you needed to do. That first level I was confused why I couldnt do anything, but it actually was pretty helpful to figure out the game, so nicely done with that. I liked the variety of puzzles also. I would have liked to keep playing to see the harder ones.

Developer (1 edit)

Hey! Thanks so much for playing! That odd, I've had a few people report that bug but can't seem to replicate it myself! I don't suppose you could clarify which level it was could you? If you quit the level, by pressing E, then retry then it should work as the bug seems to be very sporadic! Sorry that you encountered it!

Submitted

level C? It had just prompted to go to the challenge level, then that level never loaded.

Developer

Ah I see. There are actually 4 challenge levels (C-1 to C-4). Thanks for letting me know. If you want to try them then you can boot the game up again, hit levels from the title and go straight to them 😊

A very neat puzzle game that combines management and reflex skills. It has a simple learning curve though it gradually becomes more complex. Overall, it's an enjoyable game to play. The popping audio when a cable overload is a bit too loud on my computer though.

Developer

Thanks for playing! Trying to find the difficulty balance was the hardest thing for me so I'm glad to hear it suited you well. Fuseless is the first game I've made and audio definitely isn't my strongest skill so I'll certainly take that on board!

Submitted (1 edit)

I love this as a basis, but I was wishing for 1 more layer of complexity.. It seemed a bit easy maybe? Usually jam games are too hard, so good job making it not-impossible.

The game looked and sounded great. Game-feel was good. Nice audio feedback.

Maybe it just needs more levels and faster progression into harder levels.

Developer

Thanks so much for playing! Play testers found my original 5 levels way too tricky so I slowed everything down to give people a chance during the jam!

I've got plans to add more levels in the future so I'll certainly take this onboard and ramp up the difficulty curve with harder levels are trickier mechanics!

Very cool idea for a puzzle -  i love the real time aspect of it
