interesting game. I liked how extended and interactive the tutorial was and made it easy to get into the game. I ended up with 378 score not sure if that is good or not. The moment you take blood % and money was very cool. I liked the sort of atmosphere you were able to put in beside the simple but effective graphics.

Good job and well done.

Simple yet polished mechanics. I appreciate the tutorial.  Well done!

I really appreciate the interactive tutorial which explains how to play in detail. I only missed the win/loss conditions and how to gain or lose hearts. The option to replay without the long intro would also be nice.

I think the minimalistic design fits the game very well. But I would prefer a different control scheme: using Q,E, X, arrow keys and a mouse is not convenient for me. I think WASD instead of arrows could work fine, or switching between views with a mouse.

Overall, it's an interesting idea and well executed, despite a couple small issues. Great job!

Really fun game! I got to 844 on my first run and I'm going to play again and again. One suggestion is to let me  move between maps with my mouse

Will do! Expect a remake by the end of feb :)

It's a really unique concept, you'll most definitely get overloaded with multiple tasks when more maps are unlocked. The only thing I wish I could do in-game is to rotate pipes with the right mouse button to make pipe placement easier and faster.

Developer

Great idea, thanks :)

I'd totally play a full release of a game like this. I dig the dark abstract atmosphere.
Needs some QoL like resolution and some kind of notification of places where maintenance is needed.

Developer(+1)

Awesome to hear. Appreciate it :)

Great atmosphere (which is partially diminished by the typos and issues in the dialogue, lol), nice sound design, but very awkward controls. Having to switch between the mouse and keyboard to drag in pieces, rotate them or fix them is pretty difficult, as you have to alternate which hands you have on your keyboard and mouse almost constantly. This could be fixed by maybe making movement between the systems be controlled with WASD, and piece rotation and placing being done with the mouse and scroll wheel.

It also isn't clear which pipes should connect which inputs and outputs, as it seems that the entities want to go to a specific one? (they sometimes get stuck even if the pipe is connected to an output.) Simply labeling the inputs and outputs and explaining it to the player would go a long way in making this game more enjoyable. A button to skip the tutorial would also be appreciated.

Other than that, I like the visual style, and the atmosphere and gameplay are very well linked. The flaws do ruin it a bit for me, though.

Developer(+1)

Yeah, feel like if I just started a day earlier these things would have hopefully been fixed.

There's also no preference for which outputs they go through, the entities getting stuck in pipes was likely because you tried piping a vertical into a horizontal, etc.

For a refactored version of this game I am instead using the A*2D algo - instead of the rudamentary solution. AKA checking the last position, the current position and then having an if statement of all the possible directions.

Awesome puzzle game with a great atmosphere achieved with really minimalist design. You took a few elements really far to make it feel like a horror game from just a few sounds and interesting choices of texture, and the intro text going with the tutorial. Also the tutorial was great at introducing the game and being super easy to pick up and understand.

That being said, I wasn't a fan of the arrow keys being the way to navigate between levels, making my hand jump off the mouse to reach them, or moving my hand from Q/E rotation to the arrows. I think an instant-click to switch maps would have allowed me to play a lot further. I got 1138 but was dying because I had to fumble through the map to find where I needed to fix stuff. This definitely added to the feeling of overload, however!

Really liked this entry, a solid and well-developed concept. I especially appreciate the time put into the tutorial phase. Great work!

Developer

Appreciate it!

Yeah I felt the tutorial was important as a lot of game jams kind of just throw you in, and the "inital impression" is always confusion. A lot of atmosphere can be infered from how the instructions are presented as well, so it's always a shame to not see this in other projects.

There was the intention to click on the map to go where you want, as well as being able to use wasd for movement -> hence q,e to rotate, but just forgot to rebind those to what was set in the input map :/

What was also intended was to have the maps where a piece is decaying/broken would flash red and then have a static color. This was too cumbersome with how the code was structured however.

Pretty impressive score though. Good. Excellent.

Vibe is on point indeed! I love the horrific implications of transporting humans or human parts in a corroding pipe system, while you stoically maintain it.

I wish it was easier to restart the game, second time I got to 1100, and would like to retry again without the intro. Some pipes get "broken" to me, I make a right turn pipe, but the flow goes to the left instead. When I tried to break it it looked like another pipe was broken behind it, and then content flowed in the correct direction. I got a few similar bugs, which is a shame, because otherwise I would love to test my maintenance multitasking limits

Developer

That's such a beautiful summary actually. I didn't really think about what I was making until I read that. Thanks a lot :)

Highest score I could get was like 2381.

Pipe stacking problem is real, I think I introduced a bug last minute as there should be a safeguard in place preventing you dropping pipes on existing ones...  Would have been nice to get that as well as a "skip intro" / "restart" button but such is the nature of things ;D

Submitted

Ah! I thought it is a feature that you can hot swap pipes, so if I don't do that, and properly remove the pipes before, I can avoid this bug?

Developer

A smart man fixes the bug. A wise man markets it as a feature.

However no, hotswapping was never intended. 😅

Vibe is on point! Controlls are matching the genre.

I didn't get the pipes i needed tho. New pipes should't be entirly random in my opinion. Or mayby player needs other source of pipes with more controll over type of a pipe.

Developer

Thanks mate!

Idea was to have a mini shop you could buy the specific parts for for like 10x the price, but yaknow how these things always go ;)

Probably would have been better for the jam to just have a line -> corner -> t-piece -> cross, etc

I got 350ish, the introduction and ambiance got me hooked, however I lost and I didnt know why, and it didnt seem to have a resest button, so I couldnt retry it without having to watch the dialogue again.

Wow excellent capturing of the theme here, I definitely felt overloaded while playing it lol.
I also very much enjoyed the art style and sound. Very fun game.

Like other commentators have said, the controls are a little rough with a mouse. I would love to see an expanded version with those controls fixed :)

Submitted

The idea of overload is played well.

Submitted

Nice, original idea. Controls are a bit tough.

Developer

Thanks, yeah made sense on a track-pad, as soon as I watched somebody play it using a mouse a died a little inside :'D

Submitted

Cool idea and very nicely implemented.

I had a lot of fun with this game.  My biggest issue was that sometimes I didn't have the pieces I needed and  had to drop a bunch until I got them, especially the T connectors.

I also wish I could skip the intro.  I would like to play some more to see if I can set a new high score but it takes a long time to actually get into the game.

Overall really nicely done.  Great job.

Developer(+1)

Thanks a bunch!

Yeah, probably would have been less frustrating using pseudo-random probability, I am also quite suspicious of how godot generates numbers ;D

Sorry about the lengthy tutorial - flattered you were eager to play again :)

Submitted

No need to apologize,  well polished for a game jam!
