wow. I really enjoyed this entry.  the gameplay system feels very complete. As soon as i figured out how to use the green symbols to drop more, the game opened up and revealed a deeper layer of strategy. This, paired with clean UI, attractive colour palate, and puzzle-pensive music, this is a well designed, simple puzzle game worthy of app-store treatment in my eyes. With regards to the Jam theme however, other than using only one input, its not immediately clear to me how else the theme was interpreted. either way, this is a tight little puzzle game experience, and I'm eager to see where you take it. fantastic job. well done.

if you'd be so kind as to give our game a try as well, we'd appreciate it :) https://malory98.itch.io/impulse

Hey! Thank you very much for the kind words, very much appreciated.
About the theme: The game at first was going to be a level based puzzle game, where you had to finish each level with only one piece of each different symbol, but I level design wasn't very fruitful, and I feared doing a level selection menu + level transitions... So through iterations the game shifted to this, that it I know it doesn't really embrace the theme like other entries, but was key in my process to make a compelling gameplay: You need to break groups with only one symbol of each type inside to turn them green.
Again, thank you very much for playing. I'm going to try yours game now.

This is actually pretty novel ! It took a couple of games to figure out what's going on but once it's understood it's pretty deep ! Like there's pros and cons to picking different shape sizes, like you can grab more with 4 but have more precision with 2 (6 tile shapes might be a disadvantage). It's not so much luck based like bejeweled or match 3s, and I can see a player going almost indefinitely if they have the skill and patience. Well done !

Developer

Wow, thanks! It looks like you really took the time to unravel this little system, especially hard without a proper "how to play".  I'm very glad you enjoyed it.

The game is incredibly cute and lots of fun to play! I especially like the talking sound the little face makes as you play.

It took me a while to understand the mechanics (especially the use of colors) but when i understood them, i could play for hours. It's quite unique and has some depth to it. So! Great work!!

Wow, very unique entry. Took me awhile to understand how the puzzle works but after trying again and reading again the tutorial I got it. Great work there, the ability of placing the shape wherever you want except the outside of the symbol place makes more possible strategies. I'm not great with puzzles but I think this one is simple enough to understand, and hard enough to master. I like it!

Developer

Thank you very much for the kind words! It's true that the in game tutorial is a very sparing with words, although that's what the game is about (hahaha), I should make it clearer for a jam game, but you took time to understand the game and I really appreciate that.

really like the main idea, it made me go ohhhhhhh that's nice, the strategy I found is to clutter all the symbols and create a big piece to destroy everything hhhhh

Developer

Thanks for playing, though I might say that's a really bad strategy... You need to be making a maximum of green symbols (and you can get a maximum of 4 per group, and less in larger groups). Green symbols in the bottom left indicate when a new row is going to be created.  The goal is to survive as long as possible and with the higher score possible (my record is currently  around 20000). Anyway, thanks you very much!

I read some of the comments and refigured out a new strategy hhhhh I forgot about the colors

Developer

Hahaa, don't worry! The game alone is not very well explained, and that's a pity because it is  bit more complicated than it looks! Thanks again for playing! (I'm gonna try your right now)

Great game.  Once you really understand the rules (after 5-6 playthroughs), it becomes intuitive, and more skill-based than a match 3 game.

Question: how does the red to white transformation work? because if I knew, i could plan my moves ahead with greater purpose.

Developer

Thank you very much for playing! Yes, managing the red symbols is key for survival! A group of red symbols turn white, if a white symbol with the same shape falls next to it. I hope this makes it clear! And I was just wondering, what is your highscore? I'm curious.

Ah, thanks! yeah, so my first attempt was 490 when I had no idea what was going on, highest attempt 12,260 after 7 or so plays; and now with this knowledge it probably will go up

Developer

Well that actually a nice score already, but surely managing the red shapes you can achieve greater ones. Thank you very much for responding!

Not easy, but a real nice brain teaser. Well done.

The game is quite abstract and I had a hard time understanding the rules, but it feels very polished! I like the mood set by the music too.

Developer

Thank you for playing! It is indeed a "complex" system for how poor the explanation is, I recommend you reading other of the comments or asking me anything in case you want to give it another shot!

It's hard at first to understand what we're supposed to do (the text tutorial doesn't really help that much), but once you start to get the idea it's surprisingly addictive and plays great!

Great job on the look and feel. I had to read the comments to understand what the objective was, but once I got it it was fun looking a few steps ahead to find the best combinatio.

Developer

Wow, thank you very much. I tend to underexplain the rules of my games, but it can really be hurtful to them if the people playing don't have the patience to play a couple of times and unravel the rules.

Submitted(+1)

It's a ton of fun!

May I ask, what is there only one of?

Developer(+2)

Thank you very much! Yes, when destroying groups, it's key that there is only one symbol of each kind inside the group, to turn them green and then having more chances to add rows to the board, to maximize the score.

Ah, I didn't understand that. I think its great but I didn't understand all the rules.

Developer

Thank you for playing! Yes, I ended with very little time to make a nice tutorial (as the button said) and the how to play instructions were a bit incomplete, my bad!

Submitted(+1)

Maybe I'm braindead after losing sleep for the jam, but I really struggle to understand the rules and the objective. The design looks awesome though.

Developer

Thank you for playing! The "how to play" section is a little cryptic, yeah, only had 20 minutes to add that, and I also explained the very basic, there are other rules like when you paint green the four symbols in the bottom left, a new line of symbols appear on the board. I hope you enjoyed the game!
